Daily Devotional

April 14th – Psalm 23

Psalm 23

Even though David’s song is best known for being read at funerals, it is a beautiful encouragement we can keep with us daily. The Psalm defines Jesus as our Good Shepherd who came to give His life as a ransom for His flock. And as His beloved sheep, we know the Lord will protect, provide, and care for every one of our needs. The wolves around us may howl and try to lead us astray. But when we listen and follow the voice of our Shepherd, nothing can penetrate His protection. We can lie down in His green pastures knowing we are safe and secure in His loving arms.

April 13th – John 10:17

John 10:17

When Jesus died on the Cross, His enemies thought they had won. But instead, the victory is Christ’s alone. For our Savior willingly laid down His life to pay the sin debt we owe and to offer us the gift of eternal life. Fully God and fully man, the Lord had all power and authority at His command. Yet in His awesome love for both us and the Father, Jesus died and remained in the grave for three days before His glorious resurrection! Now the sting of death is gone, scripture is fulfilled, and Jesus is once again at His rightful place at he right hand of God as our great Intercessor!

April 12th – Jeremiah 31:3

Jeremiah 31:3

We all sin against God. And whether it be with our actions, thoughts, or tongue, even the greatest Christian fails daily. But because of His unmerited grace, when we confess and repent, God is eager to forgive. And the amazing grace He extends is a result of His great love. A love that is everlasting and true, and one that nothing can ever take away from us. (Rom. 8:31-39) For no matter how we may fail Him, the Lord will never fail us. We are His beloved children. Our Father in heaven will never forsake those He loves, instead drawing us to Himself with His kindness and steadfast love.

April 11th – 1 John 4:16

1 John 4:16

As Christians, each day we have the awesome opportunity to experience God’s love and work in our lives. And because we see firsthand all that He does on our behalf, we have come to know and believe in the love the Lord has for each of us. A love demonstrated by His gift of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. God has such a great love for us, He holds nothing good back from His children. And because He is love, God promises that if we abide in Him, He in turn will forever abide in, and immerse us in His amazing love!

April 10th – John 14:21

John 14:21

One of the most wonderful qualities of God is love. And it was out of this great devotion that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to offer us eternal life. Now that in itself is an indescribable gift of love. But the great God we serve offers even more. For to those who receive Jesus as their Savior, God presents the opportunity to enjoy with Him an intimate, loving, personal relationship. Through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and our obedience to His commands, the Lord reveals Himself in intimate ways that an unbelieving world could never experience!

April 9th – 1 John 3:1

1 John 3:1

Do you ever feel like you just don’t fit in this world? As a Christian, that’s exactly how we should feel. For as members in the family of Christ, the earth isn’t our home. We are children of the most high God, and with Him is where we belong. And we long for the day when we go to our forever home in heaven and dwell with our Father for eternity. To those who don’t know Jesus as their Savior, this type of hopeful joy and expectation doesn’t make sense. But no matter. For we know the love of God, and all that awaits us when He welcomes us home!

April 8th – John 21:25

John 21:25

I love reading biographies and learning about people’s lives. And the greatest biography there is, is the life of Jesus Christ. Although Jesus only walked the earth for three years, the things He accomplished, the words He said, and the wonders He performed, are vast. So it’s no wonder John says it’s impossible to contain all the majesty, splendor, and love of Jesus and His works in just four books of the Bible. Yet in His love and grace, God made sure that what is written about Christ is just enough, “so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.” (John 20:31)

April 7th – Galatians 3:28

Galatians 3:28

When Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, he declared all men (and women), were created by God equally. And where did he get such a notion? From the Creator of all Himself, God. For it is the Lord who declares that He came not just to save a few, but to save all. And His love isn’t reserved for just His chosen favorites. Instead out of His great love for each and everyone of us, Jesus came and laid down His life so that any and all who believe on Him can have eternal life. And when we receive Him as our Savior, we become equal, adopted heirs into God’s kingdom and members of His one, single church.

April 6th – Deuteronomy 7:9

Deuteronomy 7:9

Relationships are hard, and people hurt, disappoint, and fail us daily. But there is one relationship that will never let us down. And that’s our relationship with God. For to those He calls His own, the Lord is faithful and true. His love never waivers, and not a single one of His promises fails to be fulfilled. We can trust our Father with every area of our hearts and lives, because He has pledged His covenant and lovingkindness to a thousandth generation. And in Romans 8:35 we are reminded that once we belong to God, nothing, absolutely nothing can superset us from His love!

April 5th – Zephaniah 3:17

Zephaniah 3:17

God is not merely our Judge and Savior. Instead, He is also our loving Father in heaven. Our Father who cares about every aspect of our lives, both great and small, and who wants to be in the midst, and actively involved. For God promises to protect and fight for His children against all enemies. He wants to encourage and lift us up. In times of trials, His love brings peace to our troubled soul. And most incredible of all, the Lord rejoices over us with shouts of joy! Just think of that! The Creator of the universe and everything in it, finds happiness in us! How can that not in turn, fill our hearts with joy as well!
