1 Peter 2:17

Did you know that life coaching is the second fastest growing industry in the world? There are over a million certified life coaches in the United States alone. Businesses and people alike are spending over a billion dollars a year for their services. But as Christians we have access anytime, anywhere to the greatest life coaching there is. And the advice is free. All we have to do is open our Bibles and read the Word of God. For in it contains everything we need to live happy, successful, productive lives. Peter gives us God’s commands as to how we, as citizens of heaven, are to live while here on earth. First we are to show respect to all. Second we are to love the church. Third, we are to show deep reverence to God. And finally, honor those God has placed in authority over us. By following theses rules in faith and obedience, not only will we save ourselves a lot of money, but we’ll get the best advice, guidance, and truth out there!

November 24th – 1 Peter 2:24

1 Peter 2:24

I am thankful Jesus paid the sin debt of every person who has ever lived

Knowing full well the agony He would endure, the Lord willingly and lovingly left His glorious place at the Father’s side. All to pay a debt He did not owe, and to give us a gift we do not deserve. And it is only through His great love and sacrifice that we can have eternal life. I love the quote by D.A. Carson which says, “It was not nails that held Jesus to that wretched cross; it was His unqualified resolution, out of love for his Father, to do his Father’s will—and it was His love for sinners like me.” Jesus suffered for us. He suffered for you, for me, and for all who receive Him as their Savior. He was beaten, flogged, spit upon, ridiculed, and nailed to a Cross to die an excruciating death. And It is by those wounds, that shed precious blood, in which we are healed. On this day of thanksgiving, may we praise the Lord above, who died to give us life, and who removed the penalty of our sins forevermore!

1 Peter 5:10

God’s Promise – “I have called you to My eternal glory in Jesus Christ.”

Peter makes it clear that there are no ifs, ands, or buts. As long as we are here on this earth, we will experience suffering. While Christians aren’t immune to trials and pain, we can find peace knowing God is always in control. And from His unending grace, our loving Father never lets us suffer in vain. For there is always a purpose for our pain, with no storm lasting longer than God allows. About suffering pastor Paul Chappell says, “Suffering is painful for us to endure or to see those we love endure. While our instinct is to flee trials, remember that even in the midst of suffering, God’s will is being done.” Although we must suffer a little while, one day soon God will call us home. And never again will we know anything but joy, gladness, and peace. But until that glorious day we can trust that with each trial, God establishes, strengthens, perfects, and matures us. Walking side by side with His children until they dwell with Him in eternity!

1 Peter 3:12

God’s Promise – “I watch over you and I listen for your prayers.”

Do you ever feel invisible? Like no one sees you or what you do, not even God? While the Enemy may whisper in our ear the lie that God doesn’t care, nothing could be farther from the truth. So much so that one of the many wonderful names of God is El Roi, the God who sees me. The Lord never slumbers and He never sleeps. His eyes are always watching over the righteous. And His ears are always listening for their prayers. Think of that! As Creator of the universe, God has His hands full. But even so, not a moment goes by where He takes His eye off of us. Nor ever does He turn a deaf ear to our pleas. Instead He is always there ready, willing, and able to provide for His children. Satan would love nothing more than for us to think God has forgotten us, or that He simply doesn’t see us. But our Heavenly Father loves us more than anything. And if we truly open our eyes to the blessings around us, we’ll see his fingerprints every day.

1 Peter 4:8

God’s Promise -“My love covers a multitude of sins.”

When Peter tells us that love covers sin, he doesn’t mean that loving others earns God’s forgiveness. We know that our sins are paid for by Jesus’ death on the cross. And forgiveness for sin comes only through trusting in Him. Instead, Peter is reminding us that even Christians are sinners who fail and need forgiveness daily. And in remembering the grace God generously gives to us, we can love each other when hurt, forgive each other when wronged, and build each other up when we fall. Because love makes it possible for us to be, “hospitable to one another without complaint.”  (1 Pet. 4:8) And to use our God given gifts and talents to serve one another. Doing so with the goal of lovingly leading others to the Lord. So, “in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” (1 Peter 4:11)

2 Corinthians 9:8

God’s Promise – “I will meet all your needs so you can overflow with good works.”

There is a Chinese saying that goes, “If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.” In Luke 22:26-27 Jesus makes it abundantly clear that the greatest in God’s sight are those who humbly serve others. And so important is helping one another, that God equips us with everything we need to carry out His work. 1 Peter 4:10 tells us that each of us has received a special gift. And we are to, “employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” Jesus performed the ultimate good work with His death on the Cross. And now because of His sacrifice, we receive the grace of God. So out of thankfulness for our Lord, how could we not take every opportunity of every day to share God’s grace through a good work for another!

God’s Promise- “I have chosen you to be a royal priesthood and a holy nation.”

It seems ancestry kits are all the rage. With the availability of DNA  testing, people are eager to trace their roots. As Christians, we don’t need a swab and a test tube to tell us who we are. For we need look no further than the Bible to find our ancestors. Because once we receive Jesus as our Savior, we become grated into God’s chosen race. A race with no color, or ethnicity. An inclusive race of brothers and sisters in Christ called by God as His own possession. Once we wandered through life alone, belonging to no one, and serving our own desires. But now, like the Israelites, we belong to God. We are all one people, one nation, whose citizenship is in heaven. A royal priesthood and holy nation, set apart for God’s glory. Right now Jesus is preparing a permanent home where we will all, as one family, dwell with Him for eternity. We will forever be His people, and He will forever be our God.

1 Peter 2:6

God’s Promise – If you believe in Jesus, you will not be disappointed.

When people of old built their houses, they chose for themselves only the finest of stones. The rest were cast aside as junk, good for nothing. This is how Peter describes Jesus. He was rejected, seen as no more than a useless piece of rock. But where men saw rubble, God saw His “choice and precious stone”, and the cornerstone of His spiritual house. And just as Jesus is the Living Stone, He calls us to become living stones ourselves; valuable parts of the foundation of God’s house. Christ is our “precious value”, and sacrificed all to make us His. And when others reject us or call us good for nothing, He never will. So the next time you feel unwanted or useless, remember to whom you belong. We are royalty, chosen by God to be His very own; part of a holy nation, paid for with the blood of His only begotten Son. And while the world may see us as rubble, God sees us as the bright, shining, choice and precious stones we are.

September 3rd – 1 Peter 5:7

1 Peter 5:7

I didn’t grow up in a safe and loving environment. As a result, trust and surrender were very foreign to me. And the idea of handing over control of my life was petrifying. But that’s just what God commands us to do. He calls us to trust in Him, and His love. To believe that He only wants the very best for us, and has the ability to take care of our every need. I used to be so very tired. Tired from carrying all of my burdens, worries, and fear. Tired of feeling helpless, defeated, and wounded. But through Jesus’ redemptive love I can find peace and joy. And the freedom that comes from laying down my pain, fear, and worries at the feet of our Savior, swells my heart to the point of bursting. Although it’s a constant fight, each day I strive to trust in and walk closer with God. And He’s never failed me yet. So with peace and conviction, I can pray, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matt. 6:10).

August 17th – 1 Peter 4:4

1 Peter 4:4

There are some people that no matter how hard we try to convince them, will never accept our change as a person. Especially when that change comes from receiving Christ as our Lord and Savior. That’s because those who aren’t  followers of Jesus can’t understand why we would want to lead our life for anyone other than ourselves. And so they pressure us to go back to our sinful, worldly ways of the past. To be who we used to be. And when we don’t, we become targets of their resentment and ridicule. But Peter tells us that those same unbelievers, “will give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.” (1 Pet. 4:5) Until the day when we stand before the Lord, Jesus calls us to stay strong in His Word. And to respond to those who persecute us, the same way Jesus responded to His persecutors, in kindness and love.
