February 9th – Revelation 16:15

Revelation 16:15

Only God has the ability to directly see what is truly in a person’s heart. (1 Samuel 16:7) For the rest of us, we can only judge others by what we see on the outside. So if we boldly claim to be Christians, our daily walk needs to mimic the walk of our Savior, Jesus Christ. We can’t have a bumper sticker on our car or wear a cross around our necks then act like the world. John tells us that we each have a spiritual set of clothes. Paid for by the blood of Jesus. And as His ambassadors on earth, we need to wear our outfits proudly. That means always being aware of our actions and behaviors. John warns that the glorious return of Christ is soon upon us. And when He comes, we don’t want to get caught wearing soiled, dirty, worldly clothes. But instead we want to be seen wearing the garments of love, grace, and mercy Jesus paid a ransom to provide.

March 12th – 1 Samuel 1:10

1 Samuel 1:10

The story of Hannah is one of my favorites. Inconsolable because “the Lord had closed her womb,” Hannah turned to the only One who could help, God. Fervently she prayed for the Lord to intervene. Because Hannah knew, as Dr. Tony Evans says, “to bring heaven to earth, you need prayer.” During our times of anguish, like Hannah, we need to go to God. Because only He can ease our pain, change our circumstances, and end our grief. And we have to have absolute faith that, “if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” (1 John 5:14) Prayer is a game changer. And Hannah knew this well. As should we. In our distress, we need to first come before God. Because He always listens to the cries of His children, and promises to act on their behalf!

February 14th – 1 Samuel 2:26

1 Samuel 2:26

Samuel was a mighty prophet of Israel. But he only got that way by learning to hear, recognize, and obey God’s voice. This allowed him to grow closer and in favor with the Lord. And if we want to grow closer to God, we too must learn to do the same. Many are the ways the Lord tries speaking to us. One is through His Word. Often when we’re reading the Bible, the Holy Spirit will make a particular scripture or passage jump out at us. Another is through prayer. As our two-way life line of communication with God, prayer is our chance to not only talk, but more importantly, listen for His small, still voice. And yet another is through a feeling or impression. Some call them “God Tugs”.  A pull of conviction on our heart. Or a sense of just knowing something deep in our spirit. God never intends for our relationship with Him to be one of coldness or distance. Instead He wants us to be so close, nothing can shake us from His perfect love, grace, and peace. So today use the ears of your heart to listen for the Lord. Be on the lookout for “God Tugs.” Little “aha” moments where you recognize God reaching out. And when you spot one, stop and say, “Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.”
