2 Chronicles 7:14

As hard as it can be, change is a good thing. Especially when it comes to our walk with God. Even if at times it’s one step forward two steps back, our relationship with the Lord is to be one of perpetual motion. And repentance is just the thing to bring about growth and change. True repentance involves four things. First is humility. When we sin against God we need to come before Him with a truly sorry heart. One that hurts because it hurt God. Next is prayer. Jesus gave His life to provide an open line of communication between us and God. And we need to use it to confess the wrong we’ve done. Third is to continually seek God’s face. This means studying His Word and striving to live according to His commandments. Finally, we need to turn from our wickedness. It isn’t enough to just apologize for the sin we commit. We need to literally change the sinful behavior. If we take these steps, God promises to hear us, forgive our sins, and give us healing, change, and a deeper relationship with Him.

August 6th – 2 Chronicles 10:14

2 Chronicles 10:14

After the death of Solomon, his son Rehoboam traveled to Shechem to meet with Israel and be crowned king. The people took the change of power as an opportunity to plead for kindness and mercy from their new ruler. In return for lower work loads and taxes, they would give to Rehoboam their loyalty and servitude. But the king, after listening to bad advice, sent back an answer not of grace and mercy, but of threats and violence. And the result? The people killed the new taskmaster. A rebellion arose, the kingdom of Israel was split in two, and Rehoboam fled for his life. Our decisions and actions can have long lasting and tragic consequences. Had Rehoboam chosen kindness, not only would he have glorified God, but brought peace throughout the land.

2 Chronicles 7:14

With all the troubles filling the world, it’s easy to see why people today feel helpless and hopeless. But Christian’s can still have hearts of optimism. Surrendering our hearts and minds to God’s perfect will, including confessing and repenting from our sins. Next comes prayer. No matter the circumstance, our first response should always be prayer. In all things we need to be pleading for ourselves, each other, and our leaders. Finally we must seek God’s face. The Hebrew word for “face” is often translated as “presence”. And to seek His presence means wanting to know God intimately. If we, God’s people, truly want to see a change in the world, we must as one body follow these guidelines.
