This stark reality underscores our desperate need for a Savior. Someone who can bridge the gap between God’s holiness and our sinfulness. Jesus Christ is that Savior, the only one who has perfectly fulfilled the Law. Through His life, death, and resurrection, He offers us freedom from the bondage of sin and the penalty of death. In Him, we find grace and redemption, not through our own efforts, but through His perfect obedience and sacrifice. This profound truth shifts our focus from striving to earn salvation, to embracing the gift of grace offered through faith in Christ. Sadly, many people allow shame to create a barrier between themselves and God, feeling unworthy to approach Him. But Paul makes it clear that those who place their faith in Christ are freed from condemnation. In Christ, we are liberated from the chains of shame and guilt that once kept us from surrendering at God’s feet. This freedom allows us to embrace His love, forgiveness, and goodness without hesitation. When we understand that our sins are fully forgiven through Jesus, we no longer need to fear rejection or judgment. Instead we can confidently approach God knowing that He welcomes us with open arms. By letting go of shame, we open ourselves up to receive God’s abundant blessings and experience the fullness of His love. Paul’s message in Romans 8:1 invites us to live in this freedom. We all know people who are slaves to the grind, or a slave to love. But not James. James is a slave of God and the Lord, Jesus Christ. Serving his beloved Savior not in bondage, but in a liberating devotion. Finding purpose, joy, and fulfillment in serving the One whose love set him free. I want to be a James. I want to change from being a casual follower of Jesus to a dedicated servant. But the call to be a slave to Jesus involves a profound commitment. It means being willing to relinquish control and allow our faith to bear fruit. James invites us to not merely believe, but to become active participants in a faith journey that yields the fruits of love, obedience, and a life surrendered to Jesus. It prompts us to reconsider the nature of our faith and invites us to make intentional changes. Ones that result in a more profound and fruitful connection with our Savior. The joy of being a slave to Jesus is found in surrendering to His love and discovering true freedom in His grace.

Colossians 2:14

“Having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.”

We are all born sinners who need to be reconciled to our perfect and holy Creator. That’s why we must depend on Jesus. Because He is the only one who can cleanse us and prepare us to dwell in His house forever. On our own, there is nothing we can do to be good enough to stand before a righteous God. Our sin is too great, and our sentence is death. But because of His great love, our Father paid our sin debt Himself. God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, through whose death on the cross, became the perfect sacrifice and atonement. And it is only because of His shed blood can we receive forgiveness. A sweet forgiveness that restores our fellowship with God, and provides a path to eternal life. Once condemned, in bondage to sin, and separated from God, our Father took the perfect righteousness of His Son and put it on us. Why? To reconcile us back to Himself, and so we could experience the joy and freedom that comes with knowing our sins have been forgotten and the slate wiped clean!

Psalm 81:13

We all know the truth that hindsight is 20/20. Because there isn’t a single person who hasn’t looked back at past mistakes and uttered the words, “If only”. Regret is a powerful emotion. One that keeps us in bondage and stuck in the past. That’s why our Heavenly Father cries out, “Oh that My people would listen to Me!” (vs. 13) As Christian’s our greatest goal is to walk hand in hand with God. To have a close, personal, relationship with the One who knows us best. But to walk with God, we have to listen to God. Many are the ways in which God speaks. One of the greatest ways God speaks is through His Word. Other times God speaks to us through teachers or fellow believers. We even hear from God through worship. Many are the ways in which God speaks. Which is why it’s so important to listen for and obey His voice. Israel learned the hard way the pain of regret. And from her mistakes, can we save ourselves the same pain.
