Charles Spurgeon

February 26th – Romans 15:13

Romans 15:13

Charles Spurgeon once said, “When the heart is full of joy, it always allows its joy to escape. It is like the fountain in the marketplace; whenever it is full it runs away in streams, and so soon as it ceases to overflow, you may be quite sure that it has ceased to be full. The only full heart is the overflowing heart.” God’s love is an ever-flowing fountain, filling the depths of our hearts with joy. It’s a love that surpasses understanding, bringing a peace that transcends the trials of life. As we anchor our trust in Him, the source of unending hope, our hearts become reservoirs of happiness. In moments of despair, God’s love becomes a guiding light, illuminating the path to a future overflowing with hope. With unwavering confidence, we stand in awe of His love that transforms adversity into an opportunity for growth and resilience. And in the embrace of God’s love, we discover an overflowing fountain of hope and joy that defies circumstance, a testament to the enduring power of His grace in our lives.

July 24th – Psalm 16:9

Psalm 16:9

Not all fear is bad. There is the healthy fear that helps keep us from harm. And the fear of the Lord which is the, “beginning of knowledge” (Prov. 1:7) But far too often the fear that fills us is the kind that keeps us stuck under the thumb of the Enemy. King David knew a thing or two about enemy attacks. Yet because of the depth of His faith in God, he feared nothing; not even death. Charles Spurgeon wrote, “Never fear dying, beloved. Dying is the last, but the least matter that a Christian has to be anxious about. Fear living. That is a hard battle to fight, a stern discipline to endure, and a rough voyage to undergo.” As Christians we needn’t ever fear passing from this world to the next. For what awaits us is more glorious than anything we could ever imagine. A perfect eternity of love and peace, spent at the side of our Savior. And knowing what awaits us, how could we not rejoice and rest secure in God’s love!

July 17th – Psalm 16:11

Psalm 16:11

I once read the quote, “Through salvation our past has been forgiven, our present is given meaning, and our future is secured.” That was the attitude of David. Because he had complete confidence in the goodness of God, David could know joy both now and in the future to come. And so can we. Because of His great love, God provides, through His Son Jesus Christ, the path to eternal life. A path light by the glory of God, where the sins of the past our remembered no more. And one in which we experience a wonderful, personal, walk with the Lord. Like David, we can rejoice knowing we have been given the great honor of sitting at the right hand of God. A glorious place of great prestige. For as Charles Spurgeon says, “The right hand, even on earth, is the place of favor, honor, and security.  God is not going to give his people any left-handed heaven, but they are to dwell at his right hand for evermore.” (Spurgeon)

June 7th – Psalm 147:3

Psalm 147:3

Charles Spurgeon once said, “Hearts are broken through disappointment. Hearts are broken through bereavement. Hearts are broken in ten thousand ways, for this is a heart-breaking world….” Living in a fallen world means we all will experience the wounds of pain and sorrow. And as with any injury, we need the healing of a good physician. Jesus is our great Physician. For His is a medicine that can heal even the gravest of wounds. Through His wisdom He guides us through the pain. With His strength He carries us through our weakness. And with His great love, He mends all that ails us. The Father of mercies and God of all comfort, (2 Cor. 1:3-4) promises to give aid to all of His hurting children. So give your pain to the Lord. For as Spurgeon continues, “Christ is good at healing all manner of heartbreaks”

November 24th – 1 Corinthians 15:57

1 Corinthians 15:57

Charles Spurgeon once said, “The best moment of a Christian’s life is his last one, because it is the one that is nearest heaven.” For followers of Jesus, death isn’t to be feared, but to be celebrated. Because we know to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. (2 Cor. 5:8) Through His death and resurrection at the Cross, Christ defeated death forever. And now all Christians can look forward to an eternity spent at the side of our Savior. There we will celebrate Christ’s victory forever with songs of thanksgiving and continual praise for His mercy and love. Never again will we suffer from the pull of sin, for we will finally be the complete perfect images of our Lord. So with our last breath we can rejoice and give thanks to God. For His Son, Jesus Christ, has stolen both the victory and the sting of death forever!

A New Heaven and Earth – Revelation 21-22

Revelation 21-22

Do you ever wonder how we as believers will spend eternity? In the last chapters of Revelation, John answers that question when he reveals what is known as the “eternal state”, or the eternal destiny of believers. And the picture he paints is one of such peace, joy, and love, that I too can’t help but cry, “Maranatha!” Come Lord Jesus! …
