October 13th – Colossians 3:17

Colossians 3:17

The apostle Paul encourages us to do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. This means aligning our thoughts, actions, and decisions with the teachings and example of Christ. Approaching all we do with an attitude of love, humility, and devotion to Him. Every aspect of our existence, from our words and actions to our thoughts and deeds, should be a testament to God’s goodness and blessings. By recognizing His lordship in our lives, we strive to bring honor and glory to Jesus in everything we do. It also means that our actions should reflect His character of compassion, forgiveness, and grace. Ultimately, doing everything in the name of Jesus is an invitation to live a life that emulates His love and reflects His teachings. It’s creating a positive impact on the world and contributing to the advancement of God’s kingdom. Because even in the smallest of actions, we have the opportunity to express gratitude and reflect God’s abundant love.

the Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.”

In a world often filled with conditional love and expectations, God’s love stands out as a beacon of unconditional grace and acceptance. While human relationships may be marked by “I love you if” or “I love you because,” God’s love declares, “I love you, period.” His abundance of love, mercy, and faithfulness knows no bounds. It’s not limited or finite but overflows with tenderness and forgiveness. And even greater still, God’s love isn’t dependent on our performance, appearance, or achievements. It’s a love that embraces us in our brokenness and imperfections, offering forgiveness, mercy, and unending compassion. This divine love is the purest and most selfless form of love, inviting us to find security, worth, and belonging not in meeting conditions, but in the boundless, unwavering love of our Heavenly Father. Proverbs 25:4

Take away the dross from the silver, and the smith has material for a vessel,”

During the process of refining and purifying precious metals, the waste materials that are separated through smelting are called dross. Intense heat causes the dross to separate from the ore and rise to the top. There it forms a froth and can be eliminated, leaving a pure metal base. That’s how it should be with our inner circle of friends. Friendship is a treasure given by God, and we should surround ourselves with only the cream of the crop. Those who have stood the test of time and proven themselves to be trustworthy, honest and loyal. Both to us and to God. Because such relationships are vital in a world of fake followers and friends. Like beacons of light, they guide us along the path of faith and righteousness. And in the company of such friends, we find solace, encouragement, and accountability rooted in the teachings of Christ. These precious, treasured, friendships inspire us to be better versions of ourselves. And they challenge us to grow in love, compassion, and forgiveness.

This is what you are to say to Joseph: I ask you to forgive your brothers the sins and the wrongs they committed in treating you so badly.’ Now please forgive the sins of the servants of the God of your father.” When their message came to him, Joseph wept.”

If there’s anyone who had a reason to hold a grudge and exact vengeance, it would be Joseph. Betrayed by his brothers and sold into slavery, Joseph had every right to hold bitterness in his heart against them. Yet Joseph’s response was one of forgiveness and compassion. Because he knew their actions were part of God’s greater plan. That same ability to forgive is within all of us who are rooted in deep faith and trust in God’s plan. Like Joseph, we can chose to see beyond the betrayal and harbor no bitterness in our hearts. Just as Jesus does for us, Joseph displayed empathy, understanding, and compassion. Because he knew all of us are flawed and capable of making mistakes. By extending forgiveness, Joseph embraced the opportunity for reconciliation and restoration, prioritizing love and unity over vengeance. His forgiveness is a testament to his remarkable character. To the Lord our God belong compassion and forgiveness, for we have rebelled against Him”

Everyday even the mightiest Christian rebels against God. Yet everyday, when we confess and repent of our wickedness, the Lord offers His forgiveness. And I’m so thankful He does.
