Crucifixion

March 31st – Matthew 28:5-6

Matthew 28:5-6

Easter is the pinnacle of the Christian calendar. And it’s a celebration of profound significance and joy. Because it commemorates the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ from the dead, three days after His crucifixion. This miraculous event stands as the cornerstone of our faith. For it affirms Jesus’ victory over sin and death and offers the promise of eternal life to all who believe. Easter heralds the dawn of hope and redemption, as the empty tomb bears witness to the power of God’s love and the fulfillment of His promises. It’s a time of great rejoicing, as we gather to celebrate the triumph of light over darkness and life over death. Easter calls us to reflect on the depths of God’s grace and mercy, as manifested through Jesus’ sacrificial death and glorious Resurrection. As we proclaim “He is risen!” with hearts overflowing with gratitude and praise, Easter reminds us of the unshakable hope we have in Jesus, our risen Savior, who promises an eternity by His side to all who call Him Lord.

March 26th – Matthew 24:3

Matthew 24:3

The Mount of Olives was a special place in the life of Jesus. It was there He made His triumphal entry into Jerusalem, where His dear friends Mary, Martha, and Lazarus lived, and where He was betrayed by Judas. So how poignant is it that while Jesus stood on the Mount of Olives, teaching the multitudes about love, mercy, and the Kingdom of God, that He would soon bear the weight of humanity’s sins in that very place. The serene backdrop of the sermon starkly contrasts with the agony Jesus would endure amidst the gnarled olive trees, sweating drops of blood as He faced the impending crucifixion. The same hill that bore witness to His teachings would become a symbol of His ultimate act of love and obedience to the Father. It serves as a beautiful reminder that even in the depths of suffering, there is hope. Because it was on that hill that Jesus willingly surrendered Himself for the salvation of humanity. And through His sacrifice we have the gift of an eternity spent by His side.

Luke 23:46

In Luke 23:46, we witness the heart wrenching scene of Jesus’ crucifixion. The weight of our sins bore down upon Him as He hung on the Cross, enduring unimaginable physical and spiritual suffering. Yet even in His darkest hour, Jesus’ final words, “Father, into Your hands I commit my spirit,” echo with profound surrender and trust in God’s plan of redemption. And because of that surrender, through the precious blood our Savior sacrificed, we can find forgiveness and reconciliation with God. As we reflect on the depth of our Father’s love demonstrated through the Cross, our hearts overflow with gratitude and awe. Because we are reminded of the immeasurable price paid for our salvation. So how could we not respond to this amazing, undeserved gift, with lives marked by humility, obedience, and thankfulness. For truly, the Cross stands as the ultimate symbol of God’s unfathomable love and mercy, calling us to embrace the fullness of His grace and walk in the freedom it brings.

July 12th – Hebrews 12:2

Hebrews 12:2

As a little girl, whenever I had a problem the first person I’d turn to was my Grandma. And no matter the situation, her advice was the same. After listening patiently she would reply, “Honey tough times don’t last, tough people do…pray.” Difficulties are a part of life we can’t escape. And each of us has a race before us to run. But by keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, we can run that race joyfully. Christ, our perfect example, endured torture, pain, sorrow, rejection, and betrayal. He despised the shame of being publicly crucified, yet He did so willingly. Why? For the joy of fulfilling the will of the Father, and the greatness of His reward. During the toughest times of our race, when we’ve hit a wall and can’t go one step further, we would do well to remember Jesus’ sacrifice. Knowing all He gave to redeem us, gives us our second wind so that we don’t, “grow weary and lose heart” (Heb 12:3) and finish the race in victory!

April 15th – Hebrews 12:12

Hebrews 12:2

“I love you.” “How much?” “SO much.” “How much is so?” “Way, Way more than you know.” This comes from a book I used to read to my son entitled, “I Love You So…” by Marianne Richmond. It’s a beautiful story about the unconditional love a parent feels for a child. It perfectly expresses the height and depth of the love I have for my son, and reminds me of that same love Jesus has for us. His entire life here on earth from birth to death, was a perfect, shining testimony to the selfless love He so freely offers to all. Even while hanging on a Cross in excruciating pain, and until He breathed His last, He demonstrated grace, mercy, and love until the end.

Tortured and nailed to a cross, no one would blame Jesus for being so overwhelmed by His pain and suffering, that He could think of nothing else. Yet instead He repeatedly demonstrated His incredible love for others; never wavering in His grace and mercy. And Christ endured all of this; the wounds, humiliation, and shame for the “joy set before Him.” What is this joy? It’s you, it’s me, and all who would be saved through His death and resurrection. With His never ending love He gave His life, and with His dying breath He gave us life. Never again will we find condemnation, for as Jesus cried, “It is finished!” (John 19:30)

His Never Ending Love – John 18-19

John 18-19

No matter how many times I read about what Christ endured on our behalf, I can never get through it with a dry eye. His life here on earth was a perfect, shining testimony to the unconditional and selfless love He freely offers to all. Hanging on a Cross in excruciating pain, Jesus continued His ministry; demonstrating grace, mercy, and love until the end. …

May 19th – John 14:15

John 14:15

Although we no longer live under the Law, Jesus still calls us to keep His commandments. What are His commandments? The Lord asks that we believe, ask, obey, abide, and most all, love. Believe in Him as we do the Father. Ask for all things in His glorious name. Obey the Word of God. Abide in the Holy Spirit. And most of all, love like Jesus. The last the greatest, for Christ gave it at His last meal before His Crucifixion. Jesus said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you.” (John 13:34) By abiding in Jesus and keeping His love commandment, we in turn demonstrate our love for Him, and show the world that we belong to the Lord.

April 17th – Romans 12:21

Romans 12:21

When it comes to overcoming evil with goodness, we need look no further than Jesus. Ridiculed, tortured, and crucified, the Lord experienced the worst kind of betrayal. Yet what was His response? Jesus prayed, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34) The grace and love our Savior showed His enemies, and shows to us daily, is a great example for all. When we are wronged, hurt, and let down, we can choose to be like the world and retaliate, or we can follow the actions of our Savior. So leave the retaliation to God, and pray that God would both protect our hearts and change theirs.
