Deliverance

July 29th – Romans 7:24-25

Romans 7:24-25

Sometimes no matter how hard we try, we find ourselves doing the wrong thing. Paul knew this struggle well, always feeling torn between his desire to do good and the pull of sin. Freedom in Christ means we are liberated from the power of sin, but it does not necessarily remove the desire to sin. This ongoing battle highlights our need for the fruit of the Spirit, which cultivates virtues like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control within us. Through the Holy Spirit, we gain strength to resist sinful desires and make choices that honor God. Paul’s acknowledgment of his struggle and gratitude for Christ’s deliverance reminds us that we are not alone in our battles. By relying on the Holy Spirit, we can navigate this conflict, allowing God’s transformative power to work within us. As we grow in spiritual maturity, the fruit of the Spirit helps us to align our actions with our new identity in Christ, continually moving toward a life that reflects His love and righteousness.

March 21st – Judges 6:24

Judges 6:24

I can’t believe we’re already in March and close to Easter. Where has the time gone! This new year of 2024 has brought with it anything but peace. Conflict and warfare continue to ravage parts of the world, leaving behind devastation and heartache. Here at home it’s an election year, stirring up political divisions that seem to deepen with each passing day. Not to mention the decline of a society which glorifies all that is wicked, and seeks to remove God instead of turn to Him. No wonder people are feeling overwhelmed and disheartened. But as followers of Jesus, we can find comfort in the unwavering truth that our peace doesn’t depend on our circumstances. Instead our peace comes from the mighty “Yahweh Shalom,” the Lord is peace. The One who provides a peace that rises above all circumstances. A divine serenity that can bring healing and harmony to our hearts, our homes, and our world. For when we surrender to Him, our mighty “Yahweh Shalom” brings His people not only physical deliverance but also inner peace and security amidst every trial and challenge.

March 5th – Jeremiah 30:11

Jeremiah 30:11

As God’s chosen people, Israel faced some pretty big storms. And like her, we too will have times of trial and tribulation. Yet whether the Lord allows these storms because He’s trying to teach us, or like Israel, to bring us to repentance, remember this. Though you may feel lost and battered, God is always in control. And no matter what we face we can claim the same promises God gave to the exiled Jews. The Lord had Jeremiah write a book containing His blessings of deliverance and restoration. A book the people could turn to for hope while they waited for the storm to pass. God blesses us with a book as well, the Holy Bible. And in it we’ll find the same promises of hope, deliverance, and restoration. So trust God to shelter you from the storm until it passes and the sun shines again. And remember, the One who created the storm, also created the rainbow that is sure to follow.

Hear My cry O God – Psalm 61

Psalm 61

What a week it has been for our country.  I’m sure that like me, your heats have been heavy over the tragedies that have unfolded. We look around at the world today so filled with hate violence, and suffering, and our hearts cry out to God for deliverance. In Psalm 61 David too cries out, “Hear my cry O God.” Even though he was a great king, David knew that he desperately needed God. …

May 11th – Psalm 25:20

Psalm 25:20

Being a Christian comes with a target on our backs. Because the moment we announce that we follow Jesus, people start watching. They want to see if our words line up with our deeds. And there are some who wait in the wings to watch us fall. Gleefully they use the opportunity to mock both us and God. But for those who abide in the Lord and make Him their refuge, there is no shame to be found.  For God is steadfast in love and faithfulness. And in His perfect, unmerited grace, He delivers us from our enemies and silences the critics.

February 20th – Psalm 63:3

Psalm 63:3

Throughout his life David faced trials and tribulations. Yet time after time, God delivered him from his hardships. And out of a heart filled with thankfulness, David couldn’t help but praise God for all He had done. For David knew that a life without God isn’t a life worth living. God is our Protector, Comforter, Defender, Father, and Friend. And separate from Him and His lovingkindness, it would impossible to go through life and it’s difficulties with a heart of joy and peace. So David did as we should, and gave thanks and the glory to God for His continued love and deliverance.

Is there Any Hope? – Psalm 3

Psalm 3

In 1927 a submarine of the Navy was accidentally rammed by a Coast Guard destroyer, and quickly sunk. Heroic efforts were made to rescue six known survivors trapped in the forward torpedo room, who had exchanged a series of signals with the rescue force, by tapping on the hull. As the trapped men used the last of available oxygen in the sub, they sent a Morse-coded message….”Is there any hope?” …
