Disciples

February 21st – Luke 17:5

Luke 17:5

We live in a world which has a mindset that “more is better.” But Jesus says to walk closer to Him, we need to value quality over quantity. There were none closer to the Lord than the 12 men He handpicked to walk beside Him. For three years the disciples faithfully followed Jesus as He healed the sick, fed the hungry, and raised the dead. And still they cried out to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” Yet it wasn’t actually more faith they were seeking, but rather a deep, genuine faith that empowered them to fulfill all Jesus called them to do.

The disciples understood that faith is the Word of God in action. It is meant to be lived out, not left idle and stale. Because the deeper our belief and trust, the closer we are to God. Even the tiniest bit of genuine faith in the Lord, can produce amazing results in our life and in the lives of others. And that’s the kind of faith the disciples wanted. Because of their overflowing love and gratitude for their Savior, they wanted an active, deep faith. One that not only allowed them to walk closer to Jesus, but as did Jesus. Is that the faith you want? I do! So how can we have that kind of genuine faith?

First through spending time in God’s Word. All relationships need nurturing. By feasting on the scriptures, we get to know who Jesus is and what He teaches. Another is through obedience. When we step out in trusting faith, obeying God’s will in all things, we learn to depend on Him completely. And third, we grow closer to the Lord by living out our faith for all to see. By loving, forgiving, and caring for others as Jesus does, we become living examples of our Savior in action for the world to witness.

September 1st – Matthew 9:37

Matthew 9:37

If there’s anyone who knows about labor shortages, it’s Jesus. When looking over the huge crowd of people all coming to Him for healing and teaching, He was filled with compassion. Like sheep, they were lost and alone without a shepherd to guide and protect them. The people were eager and desperate for the message of hope Jesus provided, ripe and ready for harvesting. Yet the workers were few. So Jesus, our great Shepherd, issued a calling. Go and reap the field of lost souls and bring them home to His flock. How? Through prayer and action. First we need to plead that God will send out the workers needed to get the job done. Second, we need to be willing and ready to be those workers. To go out into the field and glean it of every soul for the Lord. For the harvest is great and the time to reap is upon us!

June 27th – Acts 1:11

Acts 1:11

After His Resurrection, and appearing to the disciples, Jesus ascended to the Father from the Mount of Olives. They watched as a cloud received their Lord and carried Him into heaven. And while they stood staring up at the sky, an angel appeared before them. He told the disciples that just as Jesus left, in the same manner He would come again. And this time, the whole world will witness His magnificent return. As the Antichrist and his minions gather in the valley of Megiddo to wage a final war, Jesus will once again come to the Mount of Olives. Our Savior descends from a cloud, ready to do battle. But the battle is over before it begins. Because the moment Christ’s feet touch the earth, the mountain splits in two creating a valley of escape for His people. And with one supernatural word that Jesus speaks, the Antichrist and his armies are instantly defeated. Evil is destroyed and Jesus begins His glorious millennial reign.

Neither Do I Condemn You (John 8)

John 8

In John Chapter 8 we find Jesus preaching in the temple, when a group of scribes and Pharisees bring a woman caught in the act of adultery to Him for judgement. “…they said to Him, ‘Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery, in the very act. Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such a woman; what then do You say?”, (vs. 4-5). Seems reasonable right? After all adultery is a sin, this woman was clearly guilty, and in Deut. 22:22 and Lev. 20:10 the Bible teaches that the penalty for adultery was death. …
