Romans 5:3-4

Hardship has a way of bringing us to our knees. It breaks us open, leaving us with tears that seem endless and questions that have no answers. We know God is in control of all things, so we wonder why He doesn’t stop the pain, lift the struggle, and end the waiting. But as much as suffering hurts, I’ve personally seen how it shapes me. Every tear, every trial, every heartbreak has drawn me closer to God in ways that easy going days never could. Pain stretches our faith, refining us, deepening our trust, and teaching us endurance.

I didn’t always see it in the moment, but looking back, I can see how God was working. How He was strengthening me when I thought I was too weak to go on. If you’re in a season of suffering, hold on. God is not wasting your pain. He is growing something in you. He’s growing perseverance, character, and a hope that cannot be shaken. This storm won’t last forever, but what God is building in you through it will. So don’t lose heart. Keep pressing forward, one step at a time, knowing that His grace is enough, His strength is unshakable, and His love will carry you through.

Week 4 – Wisdom In Perseverance (Galatians 6:9)

It can be incredibly frustrating to constantly strive to live a godly life. To make wise decisions and do the right thing, only to face hardship and struggle. Even more disheartening is watching the wicked prosper while we endure trials. But Paul reminds us to not grow weary in doing good for in due time, we’ll reap a harvest. An abundant reward given by God for those who don’t give up. Florence Nightingale served God faithfully throughout her life, dedicating herself to nurse the sick and wounded. Even in her later years, confined to her bed, she continued her work through letters and advocacy. She never wavered in her commitment to serve others for God’s glory until her death. Though the rewards may not always be immediate or visible, God’s promises are certain. The struggles we face now are temporary compared to the eternal glory awaiting those who faithfully persevere. When we remain steadfast trusting God’s perfect timing, we find that the reward He has in store is far more glorious than anything we could imagine.

  1. How can we remain patient and steadfast in doing good, even when we don’t immediately see the results or rewards in our lives?
  1. In what ways can we choose faith over frustration when we feel discouraged by the success of the wicked while we struggle?

Week 4 – Wisdom In Trials (James 1:2-4)

As parents, we understand the importance of guiding our children through the challenges and growing pains they face. We nurture them, knowing that the hard times will help them mature and become stronger. In the same way God, our Heavenly Father, guides us through the trials and tribulations that come our way. Because He knows the hard times help us to mature and refine our faith. James 1:2-4 reminds us that the purpose of the testing of our faith is to produce perseverance. Perseverance is needed to shape us into people of patience and wisdom. And just as we comfort and encourage our children, God walks with us through difficult times, using them to build our character and reliance on Him. Through these challenges, we learn endurance, and our faith grows, making us mature and complete, not lacking anything. Though trials are tough, they are a part of our spiritual development, just as life’s challenges are essential for our children’s growth.

  1. How can we shift our perspective to view challenges as opportunities for growth in our faith and character?

Week 2 – Finding Hope in God (Isaiah 40:31)

Day-to-day life can truly wear us down. The constant trials, challenges, and the rollercoaster of emotions, can take a toll on our souls. No wonder so many people feel exhausted and drained. And as the days grow closer to the Lord’s return, things will only become harder. That’s why it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the demands of life. But for those of us who place our hope in the Lord, there is a promise of renewal. When we lean into God’s strength, He empowers us to keep going, even when we feel we can’t take another step. We find ourselves able to run through life’s challenges without tiring, and to walk through its difficulties without growing faint. This strength doesn’t come from within us, but from the Lord. For He lifts us up and carries us like eagles soaring high above the storms. By hoping in Him, we are equipped to face each day with resilience and endurance, knowing that His power is at work in us, refreshing our spirits and giving us the energy to persevere.

  1. How can we intentionally place our hope in the Lord daily, allowing Him to renew our strength when life’s challenges leave us feeling weary and overwhelmed?

2 Timothy 3:1

Many people mistakenly believe that being a Christian guarantees a life of smooth sailing, free from trials and tribulations. However Jesus promised exactly the opposite. He assured us that we would face hardships, persecution, and challenges because of our faith. And as we draw closer to His return, these difficulties will intensify for followers of Christ. The world will grow increasingly hostile towards those who uphold biblical truths and live according to God’s standards. Yet despite these challenges, we are called to remain steadfast and faithful, knowing that our sufferings are not in vain. Because it’s through our trials in which our faith is refined and our dependence on God deepened. That’s why the promise of His return gives us hope and strength to endure. For Jesus has overcome the world, and He will be with us through every storm. We can trust in His unfailing love and the ultimate victory we have in Him. So as we await His return, let us cling to our faith and in the eternal glory that awaits us.

Luke 22:44

As we celebrate Christ, His death and resurrection, one of the most painful parts of the story is the Garden of Gethsemane. For it was there when the weight of all our Savior was about to endure overcame Him. Such was His anguish, that His soul was overwhelmed to the point of death. And falling upon His face, three times Jesus prayed that if possible, God would remove the cup from which He was to drink. There will be times when we will find ourselves face down in our own Garden of Gethsemane. When God permits suffering and we are pressed spiritually to the point of agony. It’s then when we need to follow the example of our Lord. First, in fervent prayer we are to cry out to our Abba, Father. Emptying before Him our hearts filled with fear and sorrow. And when His answer is for us to endure, we are to humbly submit before God saying, “Not my will, but Yours be done.” Drinking the cup of suffering is never easy. But we need to trust that God’s plans are always best, and used for both our benefit and His glory.

As we stand at the beginning of a new year, Isaiah 40:31 beckons us to place our hope in the Lord. For in Him, we find the endurance and resilience to soar on wings like eagles, run without growing weary, and walk without fainting. But how do we hope in the Lord? By spending time with Him each day. Through prayer, by opening our hearts and laying our burdens before Him, and digging deep into His Word, meditating on passages that speak about God’s promises, love, and faithfulness. Both help provide a solid foundation of hoping in the Lord. So as we anticipate the challenges of the coming year, let us entrust ourselves to the Lord’s empowering grace. With unwavering faith, we can rise above the trials, fortified by the assurance that God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness. And as we navigate the journey ahead, may the wings of hope and the sustaining power of God’s love carry us through each season, reminding us that, in Him, we find the strength to face whatever comes our way.

Isaiah 40:31

In the hushed quiet of the Bethlehem night, the shepherds stood in the darkness, their watchful eyes scanning the starlit sky. Suddenly that darkness was shattered by the light of the appearance of God’s angels. A great host, announcing the arrival of the hope of the world with the birth of Jesus. A hope that filled the shepherds with great joy, and one they spread to all they met. For the promised Messiah, sent by God, proved that hope placed in the faithfulness of the Lord will always be rewarded. What a beautiful portrait of resilience and endurance. One that encourages us to place our hope not in the world, but in God. In the quiet moments and twinkling stars of the season, we can draw strength from God’s promises. And we can find comfort in the belief that even in the darkest nights of our lives, the dawn of hope is on the horizon. Christmas, at its core, becomes a beacon of hope, inviting us to trust in the God who renews and sustains us, enabling us to soar above life’s challenges with unwavering faith.

1 Peter 2:20

When bad things happen as a result of something we did, we understand the consequences that follow. But sometimes bad things happen when we’ve done everything right. And in those times instead of asking why, we need to accept that although not every challenge is earned, every challenge is an opportunity for spiritual growth. This calls for a unique form of endurance. One that perseveres in hope, even amid undeserved suffering. When we embrace hope in these moments, it becomes an act of profound trust. One that acknowledges God’s plan may transcend our immediate understanding. And that enduring with faith can lead to a deeper connection with His divine purpose. It’s an invitation to walk in the footsteps of Christ, who Himself endured unjust suffering. To find solace in the enduring hope that the Lord recognizes and honors such steadfast perseverance. And one He will wipe away every tear we cry, (Rev. 21:4), and replace our sorrow with everlasting joy!
