Romans 8:1

Sadly, many times I’ve felt too dirty or ashamed to come before God. I feel pained by my sin, and weighed down by guilt that whispers I should hide instead of run to Him. Oh my head knows the truth. That when I confess and repent, God is faithful to forgive and remember my sin no more. (Heb. 8:12) But it can take awhile for my heart to catch up. And it’s the lingering guilt that gets me. But I find comfort in the words of Charles Spurgeon who said, “You are a great sinner, but He is a greater Savior.”

Guilt is one of the Enemy’s favorite weapons. Why? because it keeps us trapped in darkness, bondage, and distanced from God. But I know that’s not the heart of our Father. God wants me to receive His forgiveness fully. To walk forward not bent under shame, but free and joyful. Jesus didn’t die so I could live condemned, He died to set me free. And whom the Son sets free is truly free. (John 8:36) So even while I am still a work in progress, I am deeply thankful for a patient, loving God who calls me His beloved, not a pile of mistakes.

What guilt or shame am I still carrying that God has already forgiven and is asking me to release today?

Prayer Prompt:
Lord, thank You that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Help my heart believe what my mind knows. That Your forgiveness is complete and Your grace is enough. I surrender every lingering guilt and shame to You. Teach me to walk freely in the forgiveness Jesus purchased for me, trusting that I am Your beloved and not defined by my past. Amen.

John 8:12

One of my favorite things about the season is driving around the neighborhood and seeing all the houses glowing with colorful Christmas lights. Jesus called Himself the Light of the world, and at Christmas, that name feels even more meaningful. We decorate our homes with twinkling lights, but He’s the One who brings light into the places inside us that feel dark. His light doesn’t just help us see where we’re going, it reveals what’s true, brings comfort to our hearts, and pushes back the shadows the Enemy tries to cast. And when Jesus steps into our darkness, He doesn’t shame us for it. He simply outshines it. That’s why at Christmas we celebrate the God who could have stayed in heaven’s brilliance, yet chose to step into our night. He came as the The Light of the world to guide, comfort, correct, and fill us with a hope we could never find on our own. And the beautiful truth is this. Jesus’ light isn’t just for Christmas. It’s steady, constant, and strong enough for every day, even when the decorations come down.

Reflect: Where in my life do I need Jesus’ light to guide, heal, or bring clarity this Christmas season?

Prayer Prompt: “Jesus, Light of the world, shine into the places where I feel lost or overwhelmed. Help me walk in Your truth, trust Your guidance, and let Your light transform the way I see my life and the people around me. Amen.”

1 Peter 5:8-9

You and I have a real enemy in Satan. The one who seeks to divide, discourage, and destroy what God is building in us. Every day he tries to whisper lies, stir up worry, and pull our focus from God’s peace. He prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. And not always does he roar loudly. Sometimes he comes quietly, through weariness, distraction, or despair. But we are not powerless. We stand firm, clothed in the strength of our Savior, anchored in truth that cannot be shaken. Each time we resist the enemy’s lies and cling to God’s promises, we remind him that he has already lost. Our victory isn’t in our own strength, but in the One who lives within us. God equips us with courage when we feel weak and fills us with peace when chaos surrounds us. The more we trust His power, the more the enemy’s roar loses its sting. So, keep standing firm. Be rooted, watchful, and confident in the God who fights for you. Because the Lion of Judah reigns, and no darkness can overcome His light.

Ephesians 6:11

With the time growing close to our Lord’s return, life can feel like a battlefield. The Enemy slings his arrows ferociously. He attacks through struggles, doubts, and spiritual assaults that seem to come out of nowhere. But God never asks us to face a single day unprotected. He equips us with His mighty armor. The armor of truth to guard our minds, righteousness to cover our hearts, faith to shield us from fiery darts, and His Word as the sword that cuts through every lie. We weren’t meant to fight in our own strength, but to stand firm in His. Every piece of armor reminds us that victory isn’t found in striving, but in surrendering to the One who already won. When we suit up in God’s strength, we don’t just survive the battles, we grow through them. We become more like Christ, standing firm, joyfully working for the Lord, and shining His light in a dark world. The day is coming when the battle will end, and Jesus will return in glory. But until then, we stand not in fear, but in faith, fully armed and ready.

Matthew 4:11

The wilderness was dry, the heat relentless, and hunger gnawed at His body. The Lord had been forty days without food and alone in the silence when the Enemy came whispering lies. “If You are the Son of God…” the tempter sneered, twisting truth, offering empty promises. Jesus, fully God yet fully man, felt the weight of exhaustion, the ache of hunger, and the sting of loneliness.

But He did not waver. He did not need to prove Himself. He knew the voice of His Father, and He clung to the truth of Scripture. “It is written…” The words of life and a sword against the lies. Temptation comes to us all, often in our weakest moments, whispering doubts, offering shortcuts, making sin look sweet. But Jesus showed us the way. When we are tempted, we fight not with our strength, but with God’s Word. We do not argue with the Enemy, we stand firm in truth. We remember who we are and whose we are. The wilderness is not the end. The trial is not forever. And when we resist, when we trust God’s promises over the Enemy’s lies, we walk in victory, just as Jesus did.

Week 2 – Wisdom In Staying Alert (1 Peter 5:8)

Peter teaches us the importance of being alert and watchful. Because the Enemy is constantly on the prowl, looking to ensnare us in his traps. Satan doesn’t rest. He’s always searching for ways to tempt, deceive, and pull us away from God’s path. This is why we must remain spiritually vigilant every minute of every day. The wisdom of being watchful lies in understanding that the Enemy’s attacks are often subtle. He may use fear, doubt, or pride, to lead us astray. We must guard our hearts, minds, and actions, being mindful of the choices we make and the influences we allow in our lives. Through prayer, reading Scripture, and staying in fellowship with other believers, we can strengthen our defenses. And we have the Holy Spirit as our guide. He helps us discern the Enemy’s schemes and stand firm against them. By remaining alert and at the ready, we can resist the Enemy and avoid his traps. And joyfully live in the victory Christ has already won for us.

Week 1 – The wisdom of Obedience (Matthew 7:24-27)

Hurricane season is going strong. And as the gulf and east coasts prepare in case a storm approaches, the importance of a strong foundation becomes evident. Homes built on solid ground are more likely to withstand the fierce winds and torrential rains. Just as it is in life. For those of us who build our lives on the solid teachings of Jesus, we’re better equipped to endure the storms that come our way. When trials, challenges, and temptations rage around us, those rooted in Christ remain steadfast. As a well built house stands firm against a hurricane, a life grounded in Jesus’ teachings can withstand any adversity. The storms will come. The Enemy will make sure of that. But with Jesus as our foundation we can face them with confidence, knowing that He will keep us standing strong. For the truth of Jesus’ teachings anchors us in safety, shielding us from life’s fiercest storms. With Him as our cornerstone, nothing can shake our faith.

Week 3 – Embracing Renewal (Romans 12:2)

It’s easy to fall under the spell and influence of this world. Every day, we are inundated with images, posts, and videos telling us how we should look, what we should eat, and where we should spend our money. The pressure to conform is relentless, shaping our thoughts and desires in ways that often lead us away from God. That’s why the apostle Paul calls us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds, rather than conforming to the patterns of this world. This call means spending time daily in God’s Word is crucial. For it acts as our guard and shield against the lies of the Enemy, who rules this world. God’s Word strengthens and renews our minds, equipping us to easily discern lies from truth. It stands as the ultimate arbiter of truth, the standard by which we should measure all worldly things. When we anchor our hearts and minds in Scripture, a beautiful transformation begins to occur. Through the Spirit, we have the power to resist the pull of the world and live in alignment with God’s perfect will.

Romans 8:38-39

Pastor Woodrow Kroll once said, “With the power of God within us, we need never fear the powers around us.” One of the greatest weapons the Enemy wields is fear. Fear that we are unlovable, too dirty, too sinful, or too broken to be of any value to God. This fear can paralyze us, keeping us trapped in insecurity and self-doubt. But the apostle Paul’s powerful affirmation dispels these lies, reminding us of our irreplaceable value to God. His unbreakable faithfulness assures us that nothing in existence can sever His love for us. This divine assurance liberates us from fear and insecurity, grounding us in the truth of God’s unwavering love. When we internalize this truth, we find the courage to overcome Satan’s lies, embracing our identity as beloved children of God. God’s steadfast love transforms our fears into faith, empowering us to live confidently and purposefully. In Christ we are eternally secure, cherished, and valued beyond measure. And free to fulfill our God-given destiny without fear holding us back.

2 Colossians 2:6-7

Just as sturdy trees anchor themselves with deep roots to weather the fiercest storms, let us root ourselves in the unwavering foundation of Christ. In Colossians the apostle Paul uses the example of rooted trees to urge us to be firmly rooted and built up in Jesus, who is our foundation against life’s trials and tribulations. Because as we nurture our faith, like the roots of a mighty tree, we will find ourselves strengthened by God’s grace, and unwavering in our commitment to His teachings. And as our roots dig deeper into the richness of His word and love, we’ll have everything we need to withstand whatever this world and the Enemy throws our way. So with each passing day, may our connection to Christ deepen, and may our trust in His promises be unbreakable. Like branches stretching towards the sun, may our hearts reach out in gratitude, abounding in thanksgiving for the blessings He bestows upon us. Rooted in Christ, let us grow in His likeness, spreading His love and compassion to all who cross our path.
