Faithful

December 8th – Matthew 1:18-25

Matthew 1:18-25

When we see the nativity scene, we are reminded of the precious gift of our Savior. But also found in that stable is a reminder of the faithfulness of a man named Joseph. A man who stands in the shadows, but whose obedience to God is a lesson for us all. Any other man after learning his fiancé was pregnant by another, would have walked away, or wanted her to be punished. But Joseph wanted neither. Instead when visited by an angel of Lord telling Joseph of Mary’s divine conception, he was willing to obey God. No matter the personal cost. For Joseph not only loved God, he loved Mary and the child she was carrying. So in that love and faithfulness, Joseph obeyed God and named the child Jesus. And that act of obedience accomplished two things. First, it gave the Son of God an earthly father. And second, gave Jesus his noble ancestry as a descendent of the house of David, fulfilling the prophecy of God.

November 14th – 2 Timothy 2:13

2 Timothy 2:13

Many are the wonderful characteristics of God. And one that we count on the most is His faithfulness, because we ourselves cannot be. In our human frailty, we disappoint, let down, and hurt the ones we love. But not God. He is always faithful, all of the time. Faithful to His promises, His love, and His justice. I once read God’s faithfulness described as the gold standard of everything great and good. I love that! We can rejoice because God forever remains faithful when His people are anything but. And it was out of that loving faithfulness that He sent His Son as a sin payment for the world. Once we receive Christ as our Savior, we are sealed in Him forever. And how thankful are we that  because we are clothed in the righteousness of Jesus, our Father cannot deny His name, His Word, or His truth. The truth that because of His faithfulness, “nothing will ever separate us the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38–39).

January 11th – Revelation 21:5

Revelation 21:5

When it comes to renewal, we need look no further than God. For He promises a great rebirth of the dying and decaying world in which we live. After the great throne judgement, God will make a new heaven and a new earth. Washed away will be the old, restored it to its original glory. Then the holy city of the new Jerusalem will come down out of heaven where we will dwell with the presence of God for eternity. And in this new perfect world, gone forever are pain and sorrow. Never again will our hearts feel the hurt of sadness or our eyes the sting of a shed tear of anguish. Oh how we can sing great praises to God for His words are faithful and true!
