Fire

March 1st – Exodus 13:21

Exodus 13:21

British author Vivian Greene once famously said, “Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, but learning to dance in the rain.” A beautiful reminder that while uncertainty is a part of life, we can choose to trust, embrace the journey, and find joy even in the unknown. Yet if you’re at all like me, that’s easier said than done. Because although I understand that life is always changing, in all honesty, I don’t handle change or not being in control very well. Uncertainty makes me feel vulnerable, anxious, and uneasy. Feelings I’m sure shared by the Israelites after being led from all they knew to venture to an unknown land. But Exodus 13:21 reminds me that just as God led His people with a cloud by day and fire by night, He is leading me too. Even when I have no idea what’s ahead, God does. He already knows the beginning to the end, including my victory. I may not always see the path, but I can trust the One who does. That’s why during times of uncertainty, I look back when God was guiding me in ways I didn’t even recognize at the moment. And every time, His way was better than mine. Has there been a time when God led you unexpectedly? A moment when you didn’t know what was next, but He made a way? I’d love to hear how He has been faithful in your life!

November 25th – 1 Peter 4:12

1 Peter 4:12

Through an intense and transformative force, fire removes impurities from precious metals. Such are the intense trials we face in life. If we let them, they have the ability to purify our hearts, strengthen our resolve, and deepen our reliance on God. But the purification process is hard, and often times painful. Yet even though Jesus tells us trials are inevitable, He also tells us we don’t suffer in vain. That’s why we can endure any challenge grounded in hope. Because we know our trials become a refining fire, shaping our character and deepening our faith. Through the refining flames of adversity, our impurities are burned away. Impurities like doubt, fear, and self reliance. Like a precious gem, we become beautifully purified. Shining with a renewed strength and enduring faith. This turns trials from stumbling blocks into stepping stones. Ones that let us embrace challenges with a hopeful and enduring spirit. For each one comes with the great purpose of shaping us into the glorious image of our Savior!

March 9th – 2 Timothy 1:6

2 Timothy 1:6

It’s easy to get complacent in our relationship with God. But just like the embers of a fire need stirring to reignite a fire, so do the embers in our hearts. For if our fire for the Lord goes out, what benefit are we to Him? Because each gift God blesses us with, is for the purpose of furthering His kingdom and blessing others. And so He calls to, through the Holy Spirit, stoke our embers, renew our hearts and minds, and work mightily for Him. So kindle afresh your gifts, stoke your fire, and burn brightly for the world to see!
