Forgiveness

April 13th – John 21:15-25

John 21:15-25

Imagine how terrible Peter felt when he betrayed Jesus three times; as the Lord predicted he would do. No wonder it struck a chord deep in Peter’s conscience when later Jesus asked him three times, “Peter, do you love me?” Knowing the Lord knew his heart and his regret, Peter answered, “You know that I love you.” Even though the apostle had earlier denied Christ, Jesus had forgiven Peter and restored him to a place of trust. As evidenced by the Lord’s commandment for Peter to, “Feed My sheep.” And just as He did for Peter, Jesus will do for us. The Lord knows our failures even before we commit them. And, like Peter, when we humbly seek Him in repentance, will be faithful to forgive and restore. God has a purpose that is uniquely ours. And He will help us fulfill that purpose. And no life, no matter how broken, can be beautifully transformed to bring glory to God. Today Jesus is asking you, “Do you love me?”

Blessings,

Becky

April 12th – Luke 22:54-60

Luke 22:54-60

Have you ever made a promise and failed to keep it? Let another down? Swore you would never do something and then did that very thing? If so, have you received the gift of a second chance? Do you know the power of being forgiven? The story of Peter is one of failure and forgiveness. He suffered the brokenness of sin, shame, and guilt. Because even though the Lord had warned him, and Peter’s determination not to, he failed Jesus. Peter denied His precious Savior. And seeing Jesus look his way the moment he failed, must have crushed Peter’s heart.

I’ve had moments like that. Moments when I’ve dishonored the Lord and let Him down. It could be something as simple as promising to spend time with Him each morning. Time in His word and in prayer, but instead I rolled over for a few more minutes of precious sleep. But Peter’s story is our great reminder that our failures don’t determine our future with our Lord. And just like He did with Peter, God can take those times we’ve fallen short and make something good come from them. We all matter to Jesus, and He wants to make sure our relationship with Him is blameless and untarnished. And while our failures are not part of His plan for us, the Lord will take those slip ups, and restore us back into His plan.

Blessings,

Sue

March 30th – 1 John 1:9

1 John 1:9

If we’re honest, there isn’t a single day that we can say “I’m good enough”. We may be born again Christians and sin no longer has reign over our souls, but we still fight with the flesh daily. The apostle Paul, who called himself “chief of sinners”, knew this battle well. In Romans 7:22-23 he says, “For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.”

God doesn’t want sin to have a hold on us, and longs for us to be free of its crippling grasp. The Bible devotes much to the topic to make us aware of its toxic effects. God doesn’t want us to cover up and hide our sin, but rather expose and uproot it. Because unconfessed and unrepentant sin festers under the surface. It spreads like cancer, destroying us from deep within. And it hinders our relationship with God, keeping us from being able to glorify Him.

We may be sinners, but we have forgiveness and atonement for our sin through the blood of Christ. And because we have confidence in that forgiveness, we can be free. Free to ask God to shine the spotlight into the deepest, darkest recesses of our being. And to expose and cleanse any unrecognized or unrelinquished sin. Because even if we fool other people or even ourselves, God knows our true motives and agendas.

What a privilege it is to be able to go to God in prayer and confess our sin. To share with Him our struggle, and to ask for victory. And as we surrender to the process of being shaped into the image of Christ, we will be renewed, strengthened, and refreshed!

Blessings, Becky

November 20th – Psalm 103:12

Psalm 103:12

When someone sins against you do you ever find yourself saying, “I’ll forgive but I won’t forget!” Thankfully God doesn’t hold such a view. For He declares that not only does He forgive our sins, He removes them as far as the East is from the West. But why not as far as the North is from the South? Because due to the poles, traveling North to South is a limited amount of miles. You can’t travel North without eventually having to turn around and go South. But you can travel East to West forever without stopping. And that’s how God deals with our sin. When we come to Him in confession and repentance, He not only forgives, He removes the stain of our sin forever, remembering them never again. So let go of the guilt and shame of the past. Forgive yourself and others as God has forgiven you. And experience the victory of the Lord’s sweet forgiveness in your life!

August 27th – 1 John 1:9

1 John 1:9

Being human means without exception, we all falter. Even the most diligent Christian sins daily. And sometimes that sin leads to terrible, painful consequences. Yet no matter how bad we screw up, one consequence we will never face is the loss of God’s love. The Bible is very clear, nothing, absolutely nothing, can separate us from the love of God. (Rom. 8:38-39) But the sins we commit break our sweet fellowship with the Lord. They interrupt our walk with Him, causing us to stray off the path of righteousness. Yet even so, when we come back to God in confession and true repentance, He is faithful to forgive our sins, declare us innocent, and welcome us into His loving arms. For we don’t serve an angry, vengeful, grudge holding God. Instead we are children of a loving, merciful Father who not only forgives us completely, He removes all trace of them, remembering them never again! (Psalm 103:12)

April 29th – Luke 23:43

Luke 23:43

There is a beautiful lesson we can learn from the two thieves hanging on either side of Jesus. While we are alive, it’s never too late for salvation. Because of His great love, the Lord will never turn anyone away who comes to Him in genuine faith and repentance. Whether declared early in life, or with a last breath, all who confess Jesus as their Savior will enter paradise. For His mercy is so great and His grace so plentiful, Christ accepts everyone who loves Him, regardless of the timing. And no matter who we are, all who put their faith and trust in Him, will receive everlasting life!

April 21st – Ephesians 1:7

Ephesians 1:7

When we think of Jesus hanging nailed to the Cross, our hearts break at the torture He suffered. But in actuality, the Cross is Jesus’ greatest triumph. For it was there that the debt we owed was paid, and death was forever conquered. And because of the richness of His grace, we are redeemed, called righteous, and become adopted heirs in God’s family. Our sins are blotted out, we are called beloved, and no do we longer face the penalty of our transgressions. Now, through the love of Jesus, we are freed from being slaves to the world and its wickedness.

April 12th – Jeremiah 31:3

Jeremiah 31:3

We all sin against God. And whether it be with our actions, thoughts, or tongue, even the greatest Christian fails daily. But because of His unmerited grace, when we confess and repent, God is eager to forgive. And the amazing grace He extends is a result of His great love. A love that is everlasting and true, and one that nothing can ever take away from us. (Rom. 8:31-39) For no matter how we may fail Him, the Lord will never fail us. We are His beloved children. Our Father in heaven will never forsake those He loves, instead drawing us to Himself with His kindness and steadfast love.

March 21st – Psalm 51:12

Psalm 51:2

If there’s anyone in the Bible that shows even the greatest can fall, it’s king David. Even though he was personally chosen by God, David committed horrendous sins. But what David’s story also shows, is God’s never ending love and forgiveness. For when David truly wanted to make a change and come back to Him, God eagerly welcomed him back. And God promises to do the same for us. When we return to God in true sorrow and repentance, He will forgive our sin, welcome us into His open arms, and faithfully cleanse us of our iniquities!

March 18th – Acts 2:38

Acts 2:38

Change is hard. And real godly change is impossible on our own. But out of His great love, God never expects His children to go it alone. That’s why the moment we receive Jesus as our Savior, the Holy Spirit indwells us, becoming our permanent Helper in all things. Now the once seemingly impossible becomes possible, through the strength of the Spirit. He guides, teaches, and convicts us of our sin against God. The Holy Spirit is our divine gift from God, and is our eternal source of revelation, wisdom, and power.
