November 24th – Psalm 62:6-8

Psalm 62:6-8

When life feels chaotic, especially during the holidays, it helps to remember that true Thanksgiving begins with knowing where our hope is anchored. So much can shift around us. Plans change, emotions run high, and family conflicts resurface. Yet through it all, God stays steady, faithful, and completely unshakable. He is the quiet strength beneath our feet when we feel overwhelmed. He’s the One we can bring every worry to, and the quiet shelter for our anxious hearts. And when gratitude feels hard to reach, God is the peace that gently settles our souls. Thanksgiving becomes deeper when we realize we’re not thanking Him for perfect circumstances, but for His perfect faithfulness. God holds us when the table is full and when our hearts feel empty. He listens when our prayers are loud and when they’re only tears. And He invites us to pour out our hearts. Not because He needs our words, but because He cares for our wounds. And as we sit with the blessings we can see and the ones we’re still waiting for, we remember that our gratitude is rooted in who He is. God is steady, strong, and always near. In that truth, we find a Thanksgiving that lasts long after the day is over.

Prayer Prompt:

Lord, help me anchor my hope in You today. Teach me to rest in Your steady presence and to find gratitude even when life feels unsteady.

September 13th – Isaiah 25:4

Isaiah 25:4

For you have been a refuge to the poor, a refuge to the needy in their distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat.”

The storms of life are the unavoidable challenges, hardships, and trials that come our way. And just as storms in nature can be fierce and unpredictable, life’s storms can be equally devastating. That’s why at the very first rumble of thunder, we need to run to God in search of shelter. For He is our dependable refuge. A safe haven shielding us from the raging elements. Turning to God in times of trouble, shows a belief in His unwavering love, sovereignty, and wisdom. And faith in His promise to never leave or forsake us. His presence offers refuge from the turbulence around us. And when we rest in His strength, we find comfort, guidance, and a source of inner peace. The kind of peace that empowers us to weather the storms with resilience and hope. And one that reminds us that even in the darkest of times, we are never alone. God is there welcoming us into His rest. He is our mighty Fortress of peace, light, and security in the midst of life’s storms.

march 11th – Psalm 91:1

Psalm 91:1

Growing up my brothers had a tree fort in the woods behind our house. It was their secret place where they and their friends could go as a refuge from the world. We too have a secret place. A fortress so secure, no evil can penetrate it. And that’s dwelling in the shadow of the Lord. For He is our perfect security and refuge. His faithfulness is an impenetrable wall and our shield against all enemies. And in His presence alone can we dwell in perfect safety. This beautiful blessing we have from God isn’t  because we are good and deserve it, but because He is. And from that goodness the Lord promises to answer every plea, every call, and every cry. He will never forsake nor abandon us. Nor will He fall short or fail to show up. The Lord loves us so much, He sends His angels to guard and protect us. And because of our love for Him, in times of trouble God will not only rescue us, but set us securely in a high place of honor.

January 9th – Psalm 61:2

Psalm 61:2

When storms rage and the flood waters rise, the wisest advice is always to seek higher ground. Because the higher we climb, the more distance we put between us and the howling winds, the safer we become. And there’s no safer place to be than sheltered in the tent of the Lord. During times when we feel overwhelmed, we have the privilege of sheltering in the refuge of God. With everything happening in the world today, it’s easy for our hearts to become overwhelmed. And although we have no control over what happens around us, we can control how we react. We can either cower and hide, living a life of worry and fear. Or we can trust in God who promises that those who put their faith in Him and not the world, can dwell forever in His fortress of peace and joy.

August 24th – Isaiah 43:2

Isaiah 43:2

When everything around us seems to be falling apart, it can feel as if we’re fighting the battle alone. And it’s true that you find out who your real friends are during the bad times. But even if everyone else deserts us, we have a friend that never will. God is that friend. Author Elbert Hubbard once wrote, “A friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you.” God not only knows us, warts and all, He formed us, redeemed us, and calls us by name. And in His amazing love, He is our best friend. A friend who stands by us, comforting, encouraging, and loving us through the pain. No matter how deep the waters of sorrow, high the flames of despair, or strong the current of anguish, God is there. He is our shield and our fortress. Our safe harbor, and port in the storm. He will never leave or forsake us. And what a privilege and joy it is to call Him friend!

April 28th – Psalm 31:3

Psalm 31:3

No matter who we are, we all face storms in life. But unlike those who put their faith in the world, Christians have a safe haven in Jesus. Through His precious blood, we are adopted heirs into the family of Christ. And as such, we are welcomed into God’s great fortress. So regardless of the strength of the attacks from the Enemy, we are safe behind His impenetrable walls. For the sake of the name of His precious Son, our Father will allow no barrage to defeat us. So let the wind rage. Because we are under the protection of the One who controls the storm.
