Freedom

August 5th – Ephesians 2:8-9

Week 1 – Understanding Faith (Ephesians 2:8-9)

The apostle Paul lets us know in no uncertain terms that our salvation is entirely due to God’s grace, and not our own efforts. We can’t contribute a single thread to the garment of righteousness that clothes us. For it is woven completely by Jesus through His sacrificial work on the Cross. To believe that our actions could secure salvation diminishes the profound sacrifice Jesus made. He endured unimaginable suffering and death, bearing the weight of humanity’s sins, because there was no other way for us to be saved. Suggesting otherwise insults His sacrifice, implying it was unnecessary. Our attempts at earning salvation would be futile and arrogant, as they would dismiss the sufficiency of Christ’s atonement. Embracing salvation as a gift from God, received through faith alone, honors the true extent of Jesus’ love and sacrifice. It is a humbling recognition that we are entirely dependent on His grace, and through this, we find true freedom and assurance of eternal life.

Questions for Reflection –

  1. How can we cultivate a deeper understanding and appreciation of God’s grace, recognizing that our salvation is a gift, and resist the temptation to rely on our own works for righteousness?
  1. In what ways can we daily remind ourselves and others of the sufficiency of Christ’s sacrifice, ensuring that our faith remains rooted in His grace rather than our own efforts?

Grace is the gift we unwrap with faith, wrapped in love by Jesus. 🙏🏻❤️

July 31st – Ephesians 3:12

Ephesians 3:12

A.Z. Tozer once said, “We need never shout across the spaces to an absent God. He is nearer than our own soul, closer than our most secret thoughts” Sometimes we may feel that God doesn’t want to hear from us. We think our problems are too small or that He’s too busy to care. These feelings can create a barrier, making us hesitant to reach out in prayer. But Paul reminds us that God cares deeply about every aspect of our lives, both big and small. No concern is too trivial for Him, and His love and attention are limitless. Through Jesus, we can approach God without fear or hesitation, knowing that He eagerly listens to our every word. God delights in our prayers and wants to be involved in all facets of our lives. He is never too busy for us, and His compassion extends to the smallest details of our existence. Let Ephesians 3:12 encourage us to bring all our worries, no matter how insignificant they may seem, to God. He is always ready to listen, offering His presence, guidance, and love in every situation.

July 30th – Galatians 3:22

Galatians 3:22

The apostle Paul explains the purpose of God’s Law, revealing that it was never meant to save us. Instead, it demonstrates our inability to keep it flawlessly. The Law acts as a mirror, reflecting our imperfections and showing that even a single transgression makes us guilty of breaking the entire law. This stark reality underscores our desperate need for a Savior. Someone who can bridge the gap between God’s holiness and our sinfulness. Jesus Christ is that Savior, the only one who has perfectly fulfilled the Law. Through His life, death, and resurrection, He offers us freedom from the bondage of sin and the penalty of death. In Him, we find grace and redemption, not through our own efforts, but through His perfect obedience and sacrifice. This profound truth shifts our focus from striving to earn salvation, to embracing the gift of grace offered through faith in Christ. It’s through Him that we receive the righteousness we could never attain on our own, underscoring the transformative power of God’s love and mercy.

Sometimes no matter how hard we try, we find ourselves doing the wrong thing. Paul knew this struggle well, always feeling torn between his desire to do good and the pull of sin. Freedom in Christ means we are liberated from the power of sin, but it does not necessarily remove the desire to sin. This ongoing battle highlights our need for the fruit of the Spirit, which cultivates virtues like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control within us. Through the Holy Spirit, we gain strength to resist sinful desires and make choices that honor God. Paul’s acknowledgment of his struggle and gratitude for Christ’s deliverance reminds us that we are not alone in our battles. By relying on the Holy Spirit, we can navigate this conflict, allowing God’s transformative power to work within us. Forgiving those who’ve hurt us can be one of the most challenging aspects of our spiritual journey. The pain and betrayal often feel insurmountable, and can turn into bitterness and resentment. But in those times we face a crucial choice to make. We can be better or we can be bitter. The freedom we have in Jesus transforms our hearts, allowing us to soften and open ourselves to forgiveness. This freedom isn’t about ignoring the hurt or pretending it never happened. Instead, it’s about finding the strength through Christ to release the hold that past wounds have on us. Through Jesus, we gain the courage to forgive even the deepest hurts. Now forgiveness doesn’t always mean reconciliation, but it is a conscious decision to let go of our grievances. One that mirrors the grace which God extends to us. It frees us from the burden of anger and allows us to experience peace and healing. Romans 8:38-39

Pastor Woodrow Kroll once said, “With the power of God within us, we need never fear the powers around us.” One of the greatest weapons the Enemy wields is fear. Fear that we are unlovable, too dirty, too sinful, or too broken to be of any value to God. This fear can paralyze us, keeping us trapped in insecurity and self-doubt. But the apostle Paul’s powerful affirmation dispels these lies, reminding us of our irreplaceable value to God. His unbreakable faithfulness assures us that nothing in existence can sever His love for us. This divine assurance liberates us from fear and insecurity, grounding us in the truth of God’s unwavering love. When we internalize this truth, we find the courage to overcome Satan’s lies, embracing our identity as beloved children of God. God’s steadfast love transforms our fears into faith, empowering us to live confidently and purposefully. In Christ we are eternally secure, cherished, and valued beyond measure. And free to fulfill our God-given destiny without fear holding us back.

Philippians 4:11

It’s easy to praise God in the good times when blessings abound, and life feels secure. But the true test of faith lies in whether we can praise Him during the bad times. The Apostle Paul exemplifies this through his journey, having learned to be content in both feast and famine. Paul’s contentment wasn’t based on external circumstances, but on his unshakeable faith in Christ. This freedom in Christ liberates us from the constant striving for more, teaching us to be thankful for what we have. Instead of being swayed by life’s ups and downs, we find stability in God’s unwavering presence.

When we anchor our joy in Christ, we cultivate a heart of gratitude that transcends our situation. This spiritual freedom allows us to recognize that every season, whether plentiful or sparse, holds a purpose in God’s grand design. It transforms our perspective, helping us see God’s hand at work even in adversity. By embracing this freedom, we echo Paul’s contentment, finding peace and joy in every circumstance, and continually offering praise to God, not for our comfort, but for His faithfulness and love.
