Goals

January 3rd – Proverbs 16:3

Proverbs 16:3

As a new year begins, many of us start with fresh resolutions, good intentions, and a determined heart to do better than before. We promise ourselves that this will be the year we finally change, grow, and follow through. Yet statistics tell us that nearly 80% of those resolutions fade just a few months into the year. And not because we don’t care, but because we try to carry them on our own. Proverbs 16:3 gently reminds us that our plans were never meant to stand apart from God. When we make plans without seeking Him, even the best intentions can fall apart. But when we commit our work, our goals, and our desires to the Lord, He aligns our steps with His purpose. God doesn’t ask us to give up our plans. Instead, He asks us to surrender it. Plans rooted in His will don’t crumble with time or hardship, they are established by His faithfulness. As we move forward into this year, may our greatest resolution be to place every plan into God’s hands and trust Him to lead the way.

Reflection Question:
What plans or resolutions have you been trying to carry on your own, and how might committing them fully to God change the way you move forward this year?

Prayer Prompt:
Lord, I bring my plans, goals, and hopes before You today. Help me release the ones that are rooted in my own strength and align my heart with Your will. Establish my steps, guide my decisions, and teach me to trust You with every part of this year. Amen.

January 8th – Philippians 3:13-14

Philippians 3:13-14

One of my resolutions is to grow spiritually and deepen my relationship with the Lord. And that means getting into spiritual shape. Before running a race, an elite athlete puts in the work and dedication needed to condition their bodies, shedding any extra weight that will slow them down. We are elite athletes of God. And to make it to our finish line, we too must put in the work. That means shedding the mistakes and regrets that weigh us down. By having a heart willing to let go and let God, we’ll find the endurance to press on and release the weight of the past. To move toward the glorious future God has lovingly prepared for us of an eternal life spent by His side. And although moving forward isn’t always easy, it is always possible through the grace of Jesus. For in our weakness, He is strong. And it’s His strength which keeps us from getting stuck in mud of yesterday’s setbacks. So release the anchor of the past. And run with freedom, joy, and God’s wonderful promise of a hopeful and purposeful tomorrow.

January 2nd – Proverbs 16:3

Proverbs 16:3

Living intentionally for God takes a daily commitment to make our goals and intentions line up with His. That means making sure every thought, word, and action, are in perfect rhythm with His grace and purpose. Intentional living involves cultivating a close, personal relationship with the Lord through prayer and seeking His will in every decision. It means extending love, grace, and compassion to others as a reflection of His character. And being intentional for the Lord means stewarding our time, talents, and resources in ways that honor Him. It’s a daily journey of growth, surrender, and obedience, where each step is taken with the deliberate intent of glorifying God and furthering His kingdom on earth. So as we stand on the threshold of a new year, let’s embark on a journey of intentional living. Let’s dedicate all our plans to the Lord, trusting in His wisdom, and laying a strong foundation for the year ahead. For when we do, God will establish and fulfill those plans in accordance with His greater purpose.

December 27th – Psalm 37:5

Psalm 37:5

As the curtain closes on 2023, people around the world are making their goals for the new year ahead. I myself am working on a vision board. A place where all my goals are together, and daily I am reminded of each one. When it comes to reflection and intention setting, Psalm 37:5 serves as a guiding light. For our greatest goal should be to commit everything to the Lord, and to trust Him in all things. God invites us to embark on the journey of the upcoming year with a heart surrendered to His guidance. And in the quiet moments of reflection, to ponder not only the aspirations and goals we set, but also to make sure those aspirations line up with God’s. As we commit our plans to the Lord, we acknowledge His wisdom, entrusting our path to the One who created the universe. In the canvas of the coming year, may our intentions be colored by trust, faith, and a genuine desire to walk in step with God’s unfolding plan. Always seeking His guidance, and making sure our goals are aligned with God’s purpose.

July 7th – Proverbs 17:24

Proverbs 17:24

Wisdom is before him who has understanding, but the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.”

One of the Hebrew words used to describe foolishness is “nabal.” It means someone who has lost spiritual perception, the one always searching for something. In our fast-paced and consumer-driven society, everywhere we turn we are we enticed by the newest trends, technologies, and experiences. No wonder we are always looking for the latest and greatest. But Solomon warns us about the dangers of constantly chasing after the next best thing. Because the pursuit of instant gratification and the constant need to keep up with the Jones can leave us feeling empty and unsatisfied. Instead of being driven by the fleeting desires of the moment, we should focus on developing a deeper understanding of ourselves and our values. By doing so, we can make more meaningful choices and find contentment in the present. Rather than constantly chasing after the next shiny object. By focusing on what truly matters, we can make wiser choices, set meaningful goals, and lead a purposeful life.

January 28th – Philippians 4:13

Philippians 4:13

Although setting goals and striving to be better are important, even more important is learning to be content. The apostle Paul faced hardship and persecution, good times and bad. Yet through it all the one thing that remained the same was Paul’s contentment. Whether in times or plenty or famine, Paul rested in the fact that the strength he received from Lord would see him through. And just like Paul, no matter the circumstance, we too have that same Christ given strength inside of us to find contentment, whatever comes our way.
