God’s Character

August 1st – Hebrews 11:1-6

Week 1 – Understanding Faith (Hebrews 11:1-6)

Faith is the confident belief in God’s promises, even when they’re not yet visible. The apostle Paul tells us that faith is essential to our relationship with God. Because it both pleases Him and is the foundation of our trust in His character and Word. Through faith, we understand that the universe was created by God’s command, revealing the power and reality of the unseen. The examples of Abel, Enoch, and others show that faith is not just a mental agreement but an active trust that influences our actions and decisions. Abel’s offering was accepted because it was given in faith, and Enoch was taken to heaven because he walked faithfully with God. These examples encourage us to live lives that reflect our trust in God, knowing that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. This makes faith not passive, but dynamic, shaping how we perceive the world and interact with God. It’s a vital, living connection to the divine. And it inspires us to act with confidence in God’s promises.

Questions for Reflection –

  1. How can we incorporate the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen into our daily decisions and actions to strengthen our trust in God’s promises?
  1. In what practical ways can we demonstrate our faith in God, as exemplified by Abel and Enoch, to ensure that our lives reflect a dynamic and active trust in His unseen reality?

Believe in the unseen and let hope light your way! Trust that God’s promises are just a heartbeat of faith away. 🙏🏻❤️

June 30th – Psalm 79:9

Psalm 79:9

Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us and atone for our sins, for your name’s sake.”

When Asaph cried out to God for forgiveness, he knew God would respond. Why? For His name’s sake. Meaning God’s character and reputation are all deeply connected with His forgiveness. Throughout the Bible, God reveals Himself as a compassionate and forgiving Father. When He forgives us, it showcases His divine attributes and brings glory to His name. God’s forgiveness shows His unwavering commitment to righteousness and justice. And it proves how much the Lord desires to have a close, personal relationship with each of us. By forgiving us, God shows His boundless love and mercy, revealing His true nature to the world. Even more wonderful, when God forgives it highlights His power to transform lives and bring about spiritual restoration. Ultimately, forgiveness for His name’s sake ensures that God’s character is upheld and His glory is magnified in the process of redemption and reconciliation.

June 12th – Mark 11:25

Mark 11:25

And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses”

Forgiveness isn’t just about letting go of hard feelings or seeking reconciliation with others. It goes deeper, reflecting a fundamental aspect of God’s character. When we forgive others, we demonstrate to the world the mercy and grace that we ourselves receive daily from God. Jesus teaches that our forgiveness from God is intertwined with our willingness to forgive others. By holding onto grudges, resentment, or refusing to forgive, we create a barrier between ourselves and God’s forgiveness. When we harbor unforgiveness in our hearts, it hinders our own spiritual growth and prevents us from experiencing the fullness of God’s love and mercy. That’s why Jesus encourages us to cultivate a forgiving heart. A heart of Christ that lets go of bitterness, and releases others from the debts they owe us. Because in doing so we open ourselves up to receive the abundant forgiveness and grace that God offers. And receive healing, reconciliation, and a deeper connection with God and others.

April 13th – Numbers 23:19

Numbers 23:19

We’ve all heard it said that people will let you down, but God never will. We are fallen beings living in a fallen world. That means at some point in our lives, we will be hurt, betrayed, and disappointed by other people. And we too will do our share of hurting others. But in good times and bad, joy and sorrow, we can turn to God. Because our Lord will always be there to perfectly love and comfort us. Unlike our sinful humanity which lies, and changes its mind, God is faithful and reliable. Never will He hurt or betray us. The words He speaks are always honest and true. And when the Lord makes a promise, He will always act on and fulfill it. Even when we face times of doubt and uncertainty, God remains true. And when others walk away from us, He remains steadfast in His love. Unlike humans who are fickle and unreliable, we can forever trust in God’s goodness and character.
