Living Our Best Life – Psalm 1

Psalm 1

In Psalm 1 we are being asked a basic question. Do you want the very best for your life and to be blessed by God? I think it’s pretty safe to say that all of us would answer with a resounding “Yes!” Well it just so happens that this Psalm also gives us a blueprint to do just that! …

November 9th – 2 Timothy 3:16

2 Timothy 3:16

Members of the church at Ephesus struggled with outside influences trying to mislead them away from sound biblical doctrine. And sadly, these same influences are still alive in today’s culture. Our society is filled with immorality, false religions, and an “everything goes” attitude. Today’s churches are trading God’s truth for “feel good religion”, and believers are being led astray. But thankfully, as Christian’s we know there is truth to be found in the Word of God. For as Psalm 119:160 tells us, “The sum of Your Word is truth, and every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting.” The Bible is our God given guide to life, and every word written on its pages true. And not just true, but eternally true. So rejoice and give thanks, knowing that when we cling to its contents, we stand on an foundation of truth no lie can shake.

September 11th – Matthew 13:23

Matthew 13:23

In the parable of the sower, or parable of the four soils, Jesus explains four different responses of people who hear the Gospel. The first is a hard soil, in which the seed, (the Word of God), does not penetrate the heart. And God’s seed becomes nothing more than food for the birds. The next is stony soil. It provides just enough for the seed to sprout, but doesn’t have the depth needed for the seed to take root. And at the first sign of trouble, the seed withers and dies, and God’s Word forgotten. The thorny soil, allows the seed to grow, but the love of the world takes over. It chokes out the good plants with weeds and produce no fruit. But the good soil is fertile and eager to receive the seed of God. It hears, understands, and obeys His Word, producing much fruit. It sprouts and blooms in glory to the Lord. The good soil provides a bountiful harvest for God to reap. So let me ask, which soil are you?

July 14th – James 1:25

James 1:25

James describes the Word of God as the perfect law of liberty. Why? Because in it we learn the gospel of Jesus Christ, which gives us freedom from sin, bondage, and death. And the more time we spend in the Bible, the freer we become. Which is why James stresses that we need to “look intently” at what God says. In the ancient Greek language, to “look intently” spoke of a penetrating examination. To peer so intently, that a person would go to great extremes, even physical, to get a better look. Adam Clark calls “looking intently” as taking the time to, “see and examine the state of his soul, the grace of his God, the extent of his duty, and the height of the promised glory.” Being able to both own and read the Bible is a privilege we should never take for granted. And when it comes to the Word of God, James promises great blessings for those who instead of being forgetful hearers, become effectual doers!
