Heavenly Rewards

April 10th – Revelation22:12

Revelation 22:12

When Jesus returns, He won’t come empty-handed. He’ll bring with Him the glory of justice, rewarding each person according to their deeds. For the faithful, there are promises of heavenly rewards. Earned for their steadfastness in righteousness. Yet, for those who have turned away from God, there awaits a reckoning. For every action, good and bad, will face its consequence. The return of Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of God’s justice, ensuring that no deed goes unnoticed or unrewarded. The apostle Paul, nearing his own execution, eagerly anticipated receiving the crown of righteousness from the Lord. Yet he humbly acknowledged that all who long for the Lord’s appearing share in this promise. As we journey through life, let us hold fast to the hope of our heavenly reward, living with faithfulness and integrity in every deed. And let us not forget that God’s justice ensures that every action, whether seen or unseen, will be met with its due payment, both for good and evil.

August 12th – Colossians 1:5

Colossians 1:5

Because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel.

Many are the rewards waiting for us in heaven. Besides the crowns that we will lay at the feet of Jesus, there will be joy, rejoicing, glorified new bodies, and an eternity spent by the side of Jesus. That’s why Paul encourages us to lead our lives in anticipation of our heavenly treasures. By anchoring our faith in the rewards promised by God, we find the hope to persevere through life’s challenges with unwavering trust. This hope fuels our actions and choices, inspiring us to treat others with genuine love and kindness. Moreover, the promises of eternity enables us to keep a balanced perspective, helping us focus on what truly matters and avoiding being consumed by temporary concerns. And as we navigate through life, because of the hope we have in the Lord, we are guided toward a purposeful and meaningful existence. And all of these wonderful rewards we have as a result of God’s grace. Not earned through good deeds, our treasures in heaven come from the love of God and our love of Christ.

Commending A Crook – Luke 16

Jesus often taught earthly stories with heavenly meanings, called parables. And usually the stories He told were clear in meaning. But the parable of the “Unjust Steward” upon first glance appears to find the Lord commending a crook. For in it we find Jesus seemingly condoning the dishonesty of an unrighteous manger. Yet in truth, Jesus uses the story to teach the importance of caring about our futures. And to warn against the worship of wealth above God.

July 22nd – Luke 12:34

Luke 12:34

True and lasting joy can never be found in things. Instead it comes from having a close, personal relationship with God. Anything else else is just a hollow substitution. In one of His parables, Jesus tells of a rich man who had a very productive year. His crops so plentiful, he didn’t have barns big enough to store the surplus. But instead of taking that abundance and sharing it with the needy, he decided it much better to build larger barns. That way he could store his crop and live a life of ease. Little did he know, that very night would be his last. In the end the man wasted valuable time storing up earthy treasures. Treasures that eventually turn to dust. Instead, he should have been storing up heavenly treasures, becoming rich toward God. Jesus warns that wherever our hearts are, there too will be our focus. If we seek fleshly desires, our heart is going to follow. An investment in the things of this world comes with an empty and risky rate of return. But investing in God brings an unlimited supply of joy, and an eternity of riches.

June 28th – Hebrews 6:10

Hebrews 6:10

I was saw a quote which read, “Doing the right thing even when no one is looking is easy. Just need remember that we are not in this life alone and that our task is to please God, not people.” It can be frustrating striving to do the right thing when all we need do is look around and see the wicked prospering. And it’s easy to get discouraged feeling like the work we do, the kindness we show, or the love we share goes unnoticed. Especially by God. But the writer of Hebrews promises that the Lord sees every good deed we do. And He never overlooks, nor forgets, the fruit we produce for His kingdom, or the times we minister lovingly to His people. So don’t give up or quit doing what is right. Because day we will all stand before God to receive our heavenly rewards. And what a joyous privilege it will be to lay our prized crowns at His feet!
