Hebrews 12:28

God’s Promise – “I am giving you a kingdom that can never be shaken.”

The most important part of any building is the foundation. A strong foundation not only protects the outside from nature and its calamities, it also provides safety for the people dwelling inside. As Christians, the best foundation we can have is one built around God. For He gives us unshakable strength and security no matter the severity of the storm raging around us. In the last days, the foundation of the earth will be shaken like never before. Nothing made by the hands of man will be able to stand against the power of God. And sadly, many will lose their lives. That’s why if you haven’t received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, now is the time. For the days grow short until the Lord’s return. Yet believers never have to fear. Because no matter how hard the ground shakes, no crack or break will ever be found in the foundation of the Lord’s love, grace, and faithfulness!

Hebrews 12:6

Author Ellen J Barrier once said, “I believe that parents who love their children do everything for them with love, even discipline.” But even when it’s done from a loving heart, no one likes punishment. Yet the writer of Hebrews tells us to rejoice when we’re being disciplined by God. Because it’s one of the kindest things He can do. For through discipline, we see the love our Father has for His children. As parents ourselves we understand that raising successful, independent, and healthy children comes from training them up in the way they should go. Training rooted in love, correction tempered with compassion, and punishment doled out with mercy. God wants just as much for His children to be successful. So from His great love, He doesn’t turn a blind eye to our mistakes. Instead He disciplines us as much as needed, and only as long as needed. And all for our good and His glory.

Hebrews 8:12

Are you your own worst critic? Eager to speak a kind word to another, saving the harshest words in speaking to yourself? Can you forgive the mistakes of others, yet yours is on a movie wheel that continuously plays in your head? God says that when we both confess and repent of our sins He forgives and forgets, wiping the slate clean. So if He remembers no more, why can’t we forget? Because two of the of the greatest weapons Satan has in his armory are guilt and shame. And he wields them generously. Satan, whose name means Accuser, does just that. He whispers in our ears that we are unclean, unforgivable, unworthy, and unloved. He delights in reminding us of our past sins, trying to inject our hearts with feelings of doubts about God’s mercy, kindness, and love. But He is the father of lies. (John 8:44) So when God calls you forgiven, believe it! Not as a hopeful wish, but as a divine fact.

Hebrews 12:15

As followers of Jesus we are to show the grace of God to all we meet. For we are His representatives here in the world. And as Paul tells us, “a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.” (2 Cor. 2:15) Meaning our lives should be such wonderful testimonies of the love and grace of Jesus, they are lights to those who receive Him, and a condemnation to those who reject Him. But we can’t be those glorious reflections if our roots are tangled in bitterness, anger, and strife. Because such things only lead to trouble in our life and the lives of others. Instead we need to be deeply rooted in God and nourished by His grace. Only then will we be able to be kind to one another, tenderhearted, and forgiving; just as God in Christ forgave us.

Hebrews 12:2

As a little girl, whenever I had a problem the first person I’d turn to was my Grandma. And no matter the situation, her advice was the same. After listening patiently she would reply, “Honey tough times don’t last, tough people do…pray.” Difficulties are a part of life we can’t escape. And each of us has a race before us to run. But by keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, we can run that race joyfully. Christ, our perfect example, endured torture, pain, sorrow, rejection, and betrayal. He despised the shame of being publicly crucified, yet He did so willingly. Why? For the joy of fulfilling the will of the Father, and the greatness of His reward. During the toughest times of our race, when we’ve hit a wall and can’t go one step further, we would do well to remember Jesus’ sacrifice. Knowing all He gave to redeem us, gives us our second wind so that we don’t, “grow weary and lose heart” (Heb 12:3) and finish the race in victory!

Hebrews 6:10 

I was saw a quote which read, “Doing the right thing even when no one is looking is easy. Just need remember that we are not in this life alone and that our task is to please God, not people.” It can be frustrating striving to do the right thing when all we need do is look around and see the wicked prospering. And it’s easy to get discouraged feeling like the work we do, the kindness we show, or the love we share goes unnoticed. Especially by God. But the writer of Hebrews promises that the Lord sees every good deed we do. And He never overlooks, nor forgets, the fruit we produce for His kingdom, or the times we minister lovingly to His people. So don’t give up or quit doing what is right. Because day we will all stand before God to receive our heavenly rewards. And what a joyous privilege it will be to lay our prized crowns at His feet!

James 1:22

Obeying God’s Word isn’t always easy. Many of His commands require self sacrifice and sometimes even suffering. But the only way we’ll find victory in our lives, is by applying what the Bible teaches. Because the Bible is more than just a good book to read from time to time. It is the inerrant Word of God, living and active. (Heb. 4:12) And as such, we need to be not just readers or hearers, but doers of God’s Word. The Good Book is our handbook for life. It shows us how to live, how to treat others, and how to please God. Luke 11:28 tells us that all who hear the Word of God and put it into practice are blessed. And abiding in the Lord and His Word, gives us everything we need to produce good fruits for the glory of God and His kingdom.

Hebrews 4:16

Being heirs with Jesus comes with some pretty awesome privileges. And one of them is the freedom to approach God anytime, anywhere. Because of the reconciliation we receive through the blood of Christ, no longer are we enemies of God. Instead we are His beloved children who can approach our Abba Father, not to receive judgement, but mercy. God wants us to come before Him not with fear, anxiety, or shame. But to come boldly, confident in our standing through Jesus. For He loves us like no other, and has everything we need in every situation. God wants a close, personal, relationship with each of us. And He wants to help, and love us through our trials. So go to Him in prayer, lay your heart at His feet, and receive His mighty grace and help in your time of need!

Hebrews 12:12-13

After reconstructive foot surgery and a tendon lengthening, I’m currently going through physical therapy. The process is slow and sometimes painful, but my weakened muscles need discipline and training to be able to walk again. That’s how it is with our walk with God. We all experience painful times. Times when we receive God’s discipline. And although no one likes correction, God lovingly deems it necessary in both training and strengthening our spiritual muscles. We all have a race set before us. One we are to run with endurance. But to do so successfully takes dedication and training. And if we cooperate with God, trusting both His direction and discipline, amazing things will happen. Not only will we reach the finish line in victory, but our faith will deepen and we’ll receive great blessings along the way!
