Humility

June 27th – James 1:22

James 1:22

Obeying God’s Word isn’t always easy. Many of His commands require self sacrifice and sometimes even suffering. But the only way we’ll find victory in our lives, is by applying what the Bible teaches. Because the Bible is more than just a good book to read from time to time. It is the inerrant Word of God, living and active. (Heb. 4:12) And as such, we need to be not just readers or hearers, but doers of God’s Word. The Good Book is our handbook for life. It shows us how to live, how to treat others, and how to please God. Luke 11:28 tells us that all who hear the Word of God and put it into practice are blessed. And abiding in the Lord and His Word, gives us everything we need to produce good fruits for the glory of God and His kingdom.

A Great Faith – Luke 18

In Luke 18:8 Jesus asks this question, “When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?” Why is faith so important to God? Hebrews 11:6 gives us the answer. “Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” In order to please God need to believe that He is who He says He is. and we need also to trust in His promise to reward our faithfulness. …

June 10th – Luke 10:41-42

Luke 10:41-42

Could you imagine entertaining the Savior of the world in your own home? When Martha heard Jesus was coming to dinner, she rushed about preparing the meal and making sure everything was just right. But her strive for perfection, made her miss out on a amazing opportunity to spend time with the Lord. And as Jesus  admonished Martha, and all of us Martha’s out there, instead of sweating the small stuff and being “bothered by many things”, our focus should be on Him. Our priority above all else should be time spent at the feet of Jesus, listening to to the words of our Savior. Although acts of servitude and humility are important, they should come second to the close, personal fellowship that Jesus wants to experience with each of us. Because without Him we can do nothing. And producing true, good fruit for His kingdom comes only through His guidance and direction.

May 17th – 2 Chronicles 2:16

2 Chronicles 2:16

When Uzziah became king of Judah, he was only 16 years old. And during his 52 year reign, through the power of God, Uzziah did amazing things. But when Uzziah let his fame go to his head, he learned how far the proud fall before the Lord. Thinking himself all powerful, Uzziah ignorantly decided he didn’t need to follow God’s laws. And in response, God struck the arrogant king with leprosy. Shunned, all alone, and banned from God’s temple, the once mighty ruler died alone. We would do good to remember the only power we have in this world is what is given to us through God. And He alone deserves all the glory. Because only through Him are we able to accomplish anything good and lasting. And in humility, we are to use the gifts He gives us not to increase our pride, but His kingdom.

March 27th – 2 Chronicles 7:14

2 Chronicles 7:14

With all the troubles filling the world, it’s easy to see why people today feel helpless and hopeless. But Christian’s can still have hearts of optimism. For God says that if His people humble themselves, pray, and seek His face, restoration will happen. Humility means surrender. Surrendering our hearts and minds to God’s perfect will, including confessing and repenting from our sins. Next comes prayer. No matter the circumstance, our first response should always be prayer. In all things we need to be pleading for ourselves, each other, and our leaders. Finally we must seek God’s face. The Hebrew word for “face” is often translated as “presence”. And to seek His presence means wanting to know God intimately. If we, God’s people, truly want to see a change in the world, we must as one body follow these guidelines.

Loving One Another – John 13

John 13

When you think of Jesus what’s the first thing that pops into your head? For me it’s His love. A love so strong, Jesus laid down His life to call me His own. And I in return love Him. But that isn’t enough. Because Jesus wants more than my love. He wants me to love others with the same passion that I reserve for Him alone. …

Here Am I, Send Me! – Isaiah 6

Isaiah 6

The Bible teaches about many prophets. Men and women anointed to be used by God in awesome ways. But far from enjoying peaceful, easy living, God’s prophets were often despised, persecuted, and imprisoned. And the messages they brought, hated and disregarded. Many suffered tragic, violent deaths. Yet they still stayed true to revealing God’s messages. Why? Because of divine encounters with the Lord. Encounters that transformed both their hearts and their lives. …

December 29th – Philippians 2:5-8

Philippians 2:5-8

As we get ready to put 2021 behind us and move on to the new year, may we go in to it with the examples displayed by our Savior with His birth. Including humility, obedience, and the greatest of all, love. Jesus sat on His glorious throne in heaven, where He was surrounded by constant worship and praise. He wanted for nothing, and enjoyed perfect peace at the side of the Father. Yet willingly, He left it all behind to come to this wicked world and save us through His great love. In His humanity, Christ endured great suffering, even unto death on a Cross. He was rejected, ridiculed, and betrayed. And He suffered all of this to glorify God and to comfort and provide for us in all things. (Heb. 4:14-16) So as the new year brings with it a new start, may our resolutions, be filled with “Jesus goals”. Goals to be be better, do better, and have an “attitude in yourselves which was also in Jesus Christ.” (Phil. 2:5)

December 9th – 2:1-7

Luke 2:1-7

Birth announcements are quite the thing these days. People hold lavish parties, do extravagant gender reveals, and decorate the nursery fit for a king. God could have made the birth of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, a party to end all party’s. But He didn’t. Instead He let the Savior of the world lie not in gold lined crib, but in a primitive animal trough. As King of the world, Christ could have come with great pomp and circumstance, and been born in a palace. Yet instead, in great humility, the Lamb of God was born with a stable for a nursery. Why? Because our Lord came to bring salvation to all, both great and small, rich and poor. God so loved the world that He sent His Son from His glorious throne in heaven, to share in our wretchedness. For our sakes He became poor so that through His poverty, we might become rich. (2 Cor. 8:9) And that’s the greatest birth announcement of all!

A Lesson In Humility – Philippians 2

Philippians 2

When the believers in the Macedonian city of Philippi heard of Paul’s imprisonment in Rome, they sent him financial gifts. And in response, Paul wrote this beautiful letter. Not only to thank them, but to give an update on his circumstances, to encourage them to stand firm in the face of persecution, to commend both Timothy and Epaphroditus, to warn them of the danger of legalism, and in this chapter, to stress the importance of unity and humility. …
