Hunger

December 13th – Matthew 2:1

Matthew 2:1

I can remember as a child hearing about the Magi in the Christmas story. Men who saw a star and refused to ignore it. They went a long way, leaving behind what felt safe, familiar, and comfortable. And all because they believed a King had truly been born. Their journey was long, costly, and full of unknowns, yet their faith kept pulling them forward. They didn’t wait for convenience, they moved with conviction. Every step they took was driven by a deep hunger to be in the presence of Jesus. When they finally arrived, they didn’t rush past the moment. Instead, they bowed, worshiped, and offered their very best. Their story reminds me that true faith is willing to travel far, sacrifice much, and trust God fully. It challenges my heart to ask how badly I want Jesus. Am I willing to seek Him when it’s hard, when it’s uncomfortable, when it costs me something? The Magi teach me that encountering Christ is always worth the journey. May we each have that same holy thirst that refuses to settle for distance. May we follow His light wherever it leads. And may our greatest joy always be found at His feet.

Reflection Question:
What might God be inviting you to leave behind or step out of so you can seek Jesus more fully and draw closer to His presence?

Prayer Prompt:
Lord, give me a heart like the Magi. One that is willing to follow Your light no matter the distance or cost. Stir in me a deeper hunger for Jesus, and help me seek Him with faith, perseverance, and joy until I am found at His feet in worship.

April 6th – John 6:35

John 6:35

“I am the Bread of Life,” Jesus said in John 6:35, and those words still echo with life changing power. At Easter, we often reflect on the Cross and the empty tomb. But let’s not forget what it means that Jesus came to nourish our souls. In a world that constantly leaves us empty and hungry for more, more peace, more love, more purpose, Jesus steps in and says, “Come to Me, and you will never hunger again.” He feeds us with grace when we’re starving for mercy.

He satisfies the deep ache in our hearts with His presence. When life feels like a wilderness, Jesus becomes our daily bread, faithful to provide, never running out. Easter is the celebration that the Bread of Life was broken for us, so we could be made whole. He rose so we could be filled with a living hope. In every lonely moment, He is there to sustain us. In every fearful thought, He speaks peace. And in every joy, He is the source. So come hungry, friend. He is the Bread that never fails. Let Him fill you today.

February 6th – Psalm 107:8-9

Psalm 107:8-9

Social media is a virtual buffet of delectable foods and exotic drinks. But amidst the feast of images, true satisfaction comes from nourishing our souls with God’s love and grace. For He is the only One who can truly satisfy our deepest hunger and thirst. He is the only One who offers living water and the bread of life. Like parched wanderers in a desert, we often find ourselves longing for sustenance and guidance. And in His unfailing love, God provides. He satisfies our spiritual drought and leads us to green pastures. His faithfulness endures through trials and triumphs, a constant anchor in the shifting tides of life. And never does He withhold any good thing from us. Knowing all God provides, how can we not have tongues that give thanks for His boundless love! How can we not have hearts overflowing with gratitude, and lips that sing songs of praise! And how can we not in our joy, declare the goodness of our God to all who will hear! For His steadfast love is offered freely. And in His faithfulness, we find refuge and strength, now and forevermore.

September 2nd – 1 Chronicles 22:19

1 Chronicles 22:19

Have you ever felt afraid and abandoned by God? Known the pain of being forgotten and ignored by the One you need the most? I know I have. But the truth is, during those times I found that God wasn’t forgetting me, I was forgetting God. It used to be that I only searched for God when it was convenient for me, and usually when I needed something. When times were good, my relationship with the Lord took the back burner. I would go happily on my way until the next crisis hit. But the Bible tells us we are to constantly search after God. To truly seek Him in good times and bad. To seek God literally means to seek His face, or His presence. And to truly seek Him means having a passion and a hunger burning so deep in your heart and soul that you want to feel His presence not only during times of trouble, but in every minute of every day! A passion that leads to being committed to not merely seeking Him, but in finding Him!

June 29th – Deuteronomy 4:29

Deuteronomy 4:29

It used to be that I only searched for God when it was convenient for me. And funnily enough, it was usually when I needed something. When times were good, my interests settled on things other than my relationship with the Lord. But to seek God literally means to seek His face, or His presence. And to truly seek Him means having a passion and a hunger burning so deep in your heart and soul that you want to feel His presence. Not only during times of trouble, but in every minute of every day of your life. A passion that leads to being committed to not merely seeking Him, but in finding Him! God has and will always be there. Patiently and lovingly He waits for us to remember and return to Him once more. So today and everyday remember God, call upon Him and, “Set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God”! (1 Chron. 22:19)
