Intercessor

August 8th – Colossians 3:1

Colossians 3:1

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.”

With the rapid and continuing decline of today’s society, I can’t help but selfishly cry, “Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!” And I say selfishly because as desperately as I look forward to Christ’s return, I know that as Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father, He has important work to do. As the hour is short before He comes again, He’s busy acting as our High Priest, Advocate, and Mediator. In the exalted position that only He can hold, Jesus intercedes on our behalf. Day and night He presents our prayers, needs, and concerns before God. And with His sacrificial work on the cross ever-present, He advocates for our forgiveness and redemption. As if of all of this wasn’t enough, Jesus is also actively ruling over all creation. Faithfully He orchestrates the course of history according to God’s divine plan. For He is the King of kings and Lord of lords, exercising sovereign authority over the universe. And in His great love, Jesus is holding His glorious return until everyone has had the chance to receive Him as their Savior.

November 21st – Hebrews 2:17

Hebrews 2:17

I am thankful Jesus understands everything we suffer

This side of heaven we will all face challenges. Jesus too faced many challenges when He walked this earth. Why? The purpose wasn’t for His benefit but for ours. Because now any temptation we face, Jesus knows. Any pain we suffer, Jesus knows. And any trial we experience, Jesus knows. Because He knows, there is no one better to intercede for us before God. I love how Dr. Charles Stanley says, “Jesus left heaven and became a man not only to become a sacrifice for our sins but also to experience what we feel and to know exactly what it’s like to be one of us. That’s what makes Him our perfect representative on the throne of grace.” Jesus now stands at the the right hand of the Father as our High Priest. Everyday He intercedes to the Father on our behalf. (Rom. 8:34) Christ was made flesh to suffer and die for us. And how thankful we are for His love and sacrifice!

March 6th – Romans 12:12

Romans 12:12

Have you ever heard of Romans Road? It’s not an actual road, but rather a series of Bible verses from the book of Romans laying out the path to salvation. One of the most read books in the Bible, Romans contains the wisdom of Paul concerning our walk with Jesus. In it the apostle tells us to rejoice in hope, be patient in trials, and always pray. We rejoice knowing that whatever problems we face, God has already won the battle and given us victory. And the hope we place in Him, results in much needed rest and peace for our troubled souls. (Ps. 62.5) Endurance and patience in all things, especially the bad, keeps us from giving up and giving in before we see the light God promises at the end of the tunnel. And most importantly, being constant in prayer keeps our mind focused not on the problem, but the problem solver. Prayer is one of our greatest weapons against the schemes of the Enemy. And we know that each prayer is carried by our great Intercessor, Jesus Christ, who lays them at God’s throne of grace, and sees everyone answered!

October 27th – 1 John 2:1

1 John 2:1

No matter how hard we try not to, we all sin. Each one of us fails daily and need God’s forgiveness. Because whether big or small, all sin separates us from God. But the apostle John reassures us that in His great love, God provided a path of reconciliation back to Himself. Because He will never leave us in our sin, nor turn His back on us when we fall, God has given us a great advocate through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The Greek word translated “advocate” is paraklēton, which literally means one who pleads a case on someone else’s behalf. Think of that. With all He endured on this earth, even now, Jesus is at God’s right hand interceding for us. As our perfect high priest, the Lord paid for our sins with His precious blood. And now night and day, He stands before the throne of grace, pleading our case before our Father.

May 31st – Exodus 33:14

Exodus 33:14

Even though the Israelites were God’s chosen people, they continually sinned against Him. And constantly Moses interceded on their behalf. God is always looking for sincere, devout individuals to pray for their country. For as James 5:26 declares, “The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results.” Our nation was one founded on the Word of God. And we as American Christians should be on our knees before the Lord. We need to be praying for the repentance of our people and that God will remain in our midst. For a country without God is doomed to fail. But to a country whose people put God at the forefront and abide in Him, He promises His continued presence, peace, and rest.

May 30th – John 14:17

John 14:17

Knowing Jesus was about to ascend to the Father made the disciples feel lost and alone. But the Lord wasn’t leaving them to fend for themselves. Instead, Jesus would be sending them a Helper. Someone to continue guiding, teaching, and aiding them in God’s work. This person was the Holy Spirit. Once only available to a chosen few, now through the blood of Jesus, the Spirit comes to everyone who confesses Jesus as their Savior. The Spirit abides in us as we abide in Jesus. And through His power we are saved, filled, sealed, and sanctified. The Holy Spirit reveals to us God’s thoughts and truths. He intercedes to God on our behalf, and bestows His gifts upon us. And most of all, the Holy Spirit, fills believers with “all joy and peace” as they trust the Lord, causing believers to “overflow with hope” (Romans 15:13).

April 13th – John 10:17

John 10:17

When Jesus died on the Cross, His enemies thought they had won. But instead, the victory is Christ’s alone. For our Savior willingly laid down His life to pay the sin debt we owe and to offer us the gift of eternal life. Fully God and fully man, the Lord had all power and authority at His command. Yet in His awesome love for both us and the Father, Jesus died and remained in the grave for three days before His glorious resurrection! Now the sting of death is gone, scripture is fulfilled, and Jesus is once again at His rightful place at he right hand of God as our great Intercessor!

A Greater Message – Hebrews 2

Hebrews 2

Before Jesus walked the earth, angels delivered messages from God and participated in the giving of the Law. (Deuteronomy 33:2-3Acts 7:53Galatians 3:19). To the Jewish people, these messages were highly esteemed, regarded as authority, and “proved unalterable.” (v. 2) In Hebrews chapter 2, we’re told that if the angels messages were considered great, how much greater is the message of Jesus! …
