March 21st – Judges 6:24

Judges 6:24

I can’t believe we’re already in March and close to Easter. Where has the time gone! This new year of 2024 has brought with it anything but peace. Conflict and warfare continue to ravage parts of the world, leaving behind devastation and heartache. Here at home it’s an election year, stirring up political divisions that seem to deepen with each passing day. Not to mention the decline of a society which glorifies all that is wicked, and seeks to remove God instead of turn to Him. No wonder people are feeling overwhelmed and disheartened. But as followers of Jesus, we can find comfort in the unwavering truth that our peace doesn’t depend on our circumstances. Instead our peace comes from the mighty “Yahweh Shalom,” the Lord is peace. The One who provides a peace that rises above all circumstances. A divine serenity that can bring healing and harmony to our hearts, our homes, and our world. For when we surrender to Him, our mighty “Yahweh Shalom” brings His people not only physical deliverance but also inner peace and security amidst every trial and challenge.

Judges 5:7

Deborah is a beautiful example of a woman whose faith in God shined as a light to Israel. She loved the Lord and served Him faithfully. When others faltered, Deborah courageously obeyed God and insisted that His will, not hers be done. And because she followed God’s direction, the armies of Canaan were defeated and their king destroyed. The Lord rewarded Deborah by giving her the honor for the Israelites win. Even better, because of her service to the Lord,  “the land was undisturbed for forty years.” (v. 5:31) And after the victory instead of patting herself on the back, Deborah sang a song giving God all the glory. No matter who we are, male or female, great or small, when we are open and willing to be used by God, great things can be accomplished in His name and for His glory!

May 21st – Judges 5:31

Judges 5:31

Tired of being persecuted by the Canaanites, the people cried out to God for a deliverer. When Barak was afraid to answer God’s call, Deborah, a prophetess and judge of Israel, stepped up to the plate. And under His direction, her plan of attack resulted in the defeat of Canaan and it’s king. Yet after the victory, instead of patting herself on the back, Deborah sang a song giving God all the glory. Because she knew that Israel’s win only came through the power of God. Deborah’s story shows us that that no matter who we are, when we are open and willing to be used by God, through His power, we can accomplish great things. All we need is to be open to God’s direction and following His plans. Ready and willing to go to battle to see His will done!
