Light of the World

December 2nd – John 8:12

John 8:12

One of my favorite things about the season is driving around the neighborhood and seeing all the houses glowing with colorful Christmas lights. Jesus called Himself the Light of the world, and at Christmas, that name feels even more meaningful. We decorate our homes with twinkling lights, but He’s the One who brings light into the places inside us that feel dark. His light doesn’t just help us see where we’re going, it reveals what’s true, brings comfort to our hearts, and pushes back the shadows the Enemy tries to cast. And when Jesus steps into our darkness, He doesn’t shame us for it. He simply outshines it. That’s why at Christmas we celebrate the God who could have stayed in heaven’s brilliance, yet chose to step into our night. He came as the The Light of the world to guide, comfort, correct, and fill us with a hope we could never find on our own. And the beautiful truth is this. Jesus’ light isn’t just for Christmas. It’s steady, constant, and strong enough for every day, even when the decorations come down.

Reflect: Where in my life do I need Jesus’ light to guide, heal, or bring clarity this Christmas season?

Prayer Prompt: “Jesus, Light of the world, shine into the places where I feel lost or overwhelmed. Help me walk in Your truth, trust Your guidance, and let Your light transform the way I see my life and the people around me. Amen.”

February 27th – Matthew 5:14

Matthew 5:14

We are God’s ambassadors here on earth. And as such, we are called to be the light of the world. Leading lives that radiate His love and grace to all. To be as towns built upon the highest hills, easily visible from a distance, and unhidden from the world. That means living out our faith boldly with actions, words, and characters that shine so brightly for the Lord, they can’t be ignored. And from hearts overflowing with gratitude, we are to illuminate the darkness of this world. Becoming beacons that point the way to the ultimate source of all goodness and hope, Jesus Christ. Our lives should be living testimonies to His faithfulness and compassion, showcasing the transformative power of His grace. As we let our light shine before others, we reveal the beauty of God’s kingdom, inviting all to experience the fullness of His love and mercy. So as thankful recipients of His boundless mercy and unfailing love, may each of us shine brightly as we strive to glorify God in all that we do.

February 25th – John 8:12

John 8:12

Following Jesus means no longer do we walk a path of darkness. Nor do we live for ourselves and the world. Instead all we do is for the Lord and to walk in His brilliant light. And part of walking in God’s light is letting Him shine brilliantly through us to others. We do this by practicing love, humility, mercy, and forgiveness. John had a joyful relationship with the Lord. A joy made complete by leading others to having the same kind of relationship with Jesus. We too can have joy with the Lord by leading others to the Light of the world. And how could we not? For once we experience God’s grace and love, our hearts burst to tell others about the Lord! This world grows darker every day. And now more than ever, people need to hear how they can flee the darkness and receive the Light of life. A Light that will never grow dim, nor ever be extinguished!

April 24th – John 1:4

John 1:4

Jesus is life. He is the Fountain, Sustainer, and Source of life. And because of His great love for both us and the Father, He willingly left His place at the right hand of God. Why? To pay our sin debt with His precious blood. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus forever conquered death and darkness. And when we receive Him into our hearts as our Savior, He gathers us into His light. A bright light that not only reveals our sins, but shines the way to salvation. Never again do we have to dwell in darkness. Because when the “Light of the world” calls us His own, His life giving light will shine upon us for all eternity. For the Lord Himself promises, “Whoever follows me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12)
