Psalm 136:1

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His love endures forever.”

Psalm 136 is one of my favorites, because it’s a summary of the entire book of Psalms. And its message, repeated 26 times, is this. God’s lovingkindness is everlasting. What a beautiful promise we can carry in our hearts! And a powerful reminder that God’s goodness and love aren’t limited by time or circumstance, but are boundless and unending. Most wonderful of all, God offers His love and grace freely to all who call on Jesus as Lord. No wonder our hearts can’t help but sing His praises! For God’s lovingkindness is a profound expression of His goodness, compassion, and grace, inviting us to experience a deep and transformative relationship with Him. David was quite the poet. And this Psalm is no exception. It’s full of hope and comfort to a lost and hurting world. And contains the blessed promise that God’s love and mercy remain steadfast. Demonstrated most of all through His Son, Jesus Christ, who shed His precious blood to provide eternal life to all who believe in Him.

August 22nd – Proverbs 21:21

Proverbs 21:21

We all want to live long, healthy lives. And so we try to eat right, exercise, and get enough sleep. But Solomon tells us the true secret to longevity is pursuing righteousness and loving-kindness. The Hebrew word for pursue is  “radaph”. It means to chase, or follow after closely and with great effort and energy. We live in a society that desperately chases after youth. But what we need to passionately pursue is love. Love for God and each other. There’s a quote which says, “Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. And kindness in giving creates love.” We as Christians are to be clothed in righteousness. That means each day to, “put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.” (Rom. 13:14) All Jesus did was based in kindness and love. So if we want longer life, spiritual growth, and a good reputation, we would be wise to do the same.

August 20th – Micah 6:8

Micah 6:8

Many Christians get caught up in the idea that God needs our religious rites, eloquent prayers, or false piety. In truth what God seeks is our goodness, mercy, and humility. The Lord takes injustice pretty seriously. So when He commands us to act justly it means we are to exhibit high moral characters that not only speak, but take action against the wrongs of the world. To love mercy contains the Hebrew word hesed, which means loving-kindness. God expects us to be vessels in which His mercy, love, and kindness flow through to a hurting world. And walking humbly, is all about having a heart of gratitude and thankfulness for all God does, is, and blesses us with each day. Because apart from His love and mercy, we are nothing and have nothing. And I don’t know about you, but knowing our God who doesn’t need anything, yet gives us everything, is pretty humbling indeed.

August 4th – Isaiah 54:9

Isaiah 54:9

We’ve all found ourselves in situations that seemed hopeless. Or been in pain that is too deep, and too raw for anyone to understand. And everyone has had times when we’ve felt all alone. But as Christians we are never alone. God is always there ready, able, and willing to shower us with His lovingkindness and compassion. For no matter what we do, God in His perfect love remains the same. When we fail, when we fall, and when are are unfaithful to Him, God’s love stays the course. Why? Because His love is based on His amazing grace rather than anything we do or don’t do. So storms may rage and the winds howl, but nothing, absolutely nothing will shake the promise of peace God offers. That means we can rejoice in all trials. For storms only last awhile, and God is in complete control of every one. And He will see us through each step until the sun shines again.

Psalm 143:8

Each morning is a gift from God lined with fresh opportunities. And there is no better way to start the day than in prayer. A prayer for God’s wisdom, guidance, and lovingkindness. Just like David, who cried out to the Father for His teaching and leadership, we too need to make the same plea. For God’s mercies are new with each dawn, and He will always lead us in the right direction. So today and each day, start your morning with God, trust Him to perfectly guide each of your steps, and give thanks for His  never ending tenderness and devotion!

Psalm 107:8

How wonderful is our God! He truly is our Father! As His beloved children, God provides and cares for our every need. And not just our physical needs, but also our heart and soul. He gives us nourishment, refreshment, healing, and guidance. From the great to the small, God cares about every area of our lives. And just like He rescued and made Israel His own, God longs to do the same for us and, “supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:19) Oh how thankful I am for His love and to Him goes the glory forever and ever!

I Chronicles 16:34

What does it mean that God is good? It means that He is as pure as light in which no evil can be found. It means He always does what is right. And it means that He is honest, faithful, and true; even when we are not. Oh how very thankful I am that God is good. For it is from that goodness which flows His never ending perfect love. A love He freely offers to all, a love unmerited, and a love that blows all others away. For so strong is God’s love for us, He gave His only Son to redeem us. And that is everything to be thankful for.
