Manger

December 6th – Luke 2:7

Luke 2:7

I love the saying that true greatness is not found in majesty, but in the tender embrace of humility. In the quiet humbleness of the manger, we see that the mightiest of miracles often unfolds in the gentlest of places. That’s why Christmas is all about humility. Mary and Joseph found themselves in a humble stable, welcoming the Savior into the world. The King of Kings, born not in a palace,  but in a feeding trough, reflects a profound humility that marks the heart of Christ’s mission. In this modest setting, the Creator of the universe enters humanity with an unparalleled humility. Demonstrating to the world that true greatness lies in selfless service and a willingness to embrace the lowliest of circumstances. The humility of Jesus at Christmas is a powerful reminder that God often reveals Himself in the most unassuming moments. This invites us to approach the festivities with a spirit of humility and gratitude for the love and joy brought forth in the humblest of beginnings.

December 4th – Luke 2:10-11

Luke 2:10-11

The beginning of the Christmas season doesn’t officially start for me until the nativity scene is set up. I love gazing upon the stable as I place baby Jesus in His manager. And I can’t help but get caught up in the wonder of His birth. Because it’s in that manger of Bethlehem where we find not just a baby, but the source of unending joy. The birth of Jesus is a great gladness that transcends time and circumstance. For in that humble manger, joy was born anew. Inviting us to discover lasting happiness in the presence of the One who brings light to our darkest nights and comfort to our deepest sorrows. How can our hearts not overflow with joy at the fulfillment of God’s promise? A newborn King who would reconcile us back to our Heavenly Father. It’s a joy that comes from having God’s presence among us, promising peace and goodwill to all.  The great news declared by the angel is a reason for us all to abound in great joy. For to us a Savior is born. Messiah Jesus. King at kings and Lord of lords.

December 9th – 2:1-7

Luke 2:1-7

Birth announcements are quite the thing these days. People hold lavish parties, do extravagant gender reveals, and decorate the nursery fit for a king. God could have made the birth of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, a party to end all party’s. But He didn’t. Instead He let the Savior of the world lie not in gold lined crib, but in a primitive animal trough. As King of the world, Christ could have come with great pomp and circumstance, and been born in a palace. Yet instead, in great humility, the Lamb of God was born with a stable for a nursery. Why? Because our Lord came to bring salvation to all, both great and small, rich and poor. God so loved the world that He sent His Son from His glorious throne in heaven, to share in our wretchedness. For our sakes He became poor so that through His poverty, we might become rich. (2 Cor. 8:9) And that’s the greatest birth announcement of all!

December 6th – Luke 2:7

Luke 2:7

There is no greater example of love and humility than the manger in which Jesus lay. As almighty God, He came in the form not of a conquering King, but as a helpless baby. He exchanged His royal robes for simple cotton swaddling clothes, and left His heavenly throne to be placed in an animals feeding trough. There were no grand celebrations as He stepped into this world, instead He was attended to by simple shepherds, wisemen, and stable animals. And He did this out of His great love for the world and to offer salvation for all!
