Matthew Henry

February 23rd – John 3:16

John 3:16

If we ever find ourselves doubting just how much God loves us, all we need do is look to the Cross. It is there, amidst the agony and suffering, we witness the ultimate act of divine love. As Jesus, who came as God in the flesh, willingly laid down His life to reconcile humanity to God. The cross stands as a timeless symbol of God’s unfathomable love. And a profound testament to His relentless pursuit of humanity’s redemption. As we behold the outstretched arms of Christ, bearing the weight of our sins, we are reminded that God’s love knows no bounds. In the shadow of the cross, doubts are dispelled, and faith is reignited, as we are enveloped in the immeasurable love that flowed freely from the heart of God. I love this quote by Matthew Henry, “Come, and see the victories of the cross. Christ’s wounds are thy healings, His agonies thy repose, His conflicts thy conquests, His groans thy songs, His pains thine ease, His shame thy glory, His death thy life, His sufferings thy salvation.” Thank you Jesus!

May 30th – Philippians 4:7

Philippians 4:7

“When Christ died He left a will in which He gave His soul to His Father, His body to Joseph of Arimathea, His clothes to the soldiers, and His mother to John. But to His disciples, who had left all to follow Him, He left not silver or gold, but something far better,  His PEACE!” (Matthew Henry) In this life we will all face trauma, heartache, and pain. Yet as Christians no matter what, we can experience an unshakable inner tranquility. Because when we receive Jesus as our Savior, we also receive the peace of God. A peace that surpasses all human understanding. And one of overwhelming security, serenity, and clarity which goes beyond anything we can comprehend. God’s peace is an impenetrable shield for our hearts and minds. One the Lord gives to guard us against anxiety, fear, and negative thoughts. Are you longing for peace in your life? Through a relationship with Christ Jesus, we can find strength and stability in our inner being, that allows us to face life’s challenges with a sound mind and a steadfast heart.

Matthew 16:27

Matthew Henry once said, “A true disciple of Christ is one that does  follow Him in duty, and shall follow him to glory.” Before Jesus ascended to be with the Father, He left instructions that all who follow Him must take up His Cross. That means we not only continue in His work of spreading the gospel, but also share in His sufferings. For the Devil protects His own. And as the world hated Jesus, it will also hate those who love Him. Like Jesus, we too will face persecution, hatred, and some may even lose their lives. But worldly circumstances are nothing compared to the glory that awaits those who endure until Christ’s return. And on that illustrious day when the Son of Man returns, He will wipe away every tear, and reward every good work!
