Messiah Jesus

December 23rd – Micah 5:2

Micah 5:2

When people think about the miracles of God, they usually imagine the mighty deeds He performed through Moses. Fantastic and wondrous acts, leaving the people awestruck and amazed. And as awesome as those miracles are, often times God performs the most marvelous miracles using unremarkable people, in unremarkable places. Bethlehem, The City of David, was known for nothing more than being the birthplace of Israel’s king. A tiny city among the thousands in Judah, no one expected the greatest miracle of all to come from an insignificant city. Yet God chose such a place for the birth of the promised Messiah, Jesus Christ. And just like He did with Bethlehem, God wants to do great things through us as well. When we surrender to Him and are open to His calling, the Lord will use us to accomplish tremendous and wonderful deeds!

November 30 – 1 John 5:11

1 John 5:11

I am thankful that the evidence of the gospel is all around me

Evangelist Ray Comfort wrote, “Atheists who keep asking for evidence of God’s existence are like a fish in the ocean wanting evidence of water.” When witnesses testify in court they swear to to tell the truth, and nothing but the truth. But unfortunately we know that people and their promises can’t always be trusted. That’s not the case with God. We can trust that He is always true, honest, and faithful to keep His word. Throughout the Old Testament we read the glorious testimony of God promising a Messiah who would come to save the world. And that promise came true with the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. And the evidence to back it up? God Himself, Jesus’ death and resurrection, and the internal witness of the Holy Spirit. All testify that Christ is the One and only Son of God. And those who reject this testimony are in fact calling God a liar.

April 3rd – Philippians 3:20

Philippians 3:20

Because we are Christians, we are not citizens of this earth, but rather just passing though. Our allegiance is to heaven and our King, Jesus Christ. But until our Savior calls us home, we are to conduct ourselves according to the teachings and commands of our Lord. Jesus directs us to act in both word and deed as the heavenly citizens we are. By forgoing worldly living, we can keep our eyes on the prize. The day Jesus returns. On that magnificent day, our Messiah comes to take us the the place He personally prepared for each of us. Where there we will dwell by His side forever with new glorified bodies. Bodies that will feel no pain, sadness, disease, sickness, or sin. And all we will know is everlasting joy and peace!

December 19th – Zechariah 9:9-10

Zechariah 9:9-10

Did you know there are around 574 verses in the Bible predicting the arrival of Jesus? And Israel, waiting for that promised Messiah, clung to every promise. They reveled in the hope of their conquering King. One who would ride into the city of Jerusalem to gloriously slay Israel’s enemies and establish His rule by force. Only that’s not what happened. Jesus didn’t come riding on a glorious steed, swinging a mighty sword. Instead He came as a humble child, born in a stable. And as the Lamb of God, Christ brought with Him the unmerited gifts of peace, justice, and salvation for all. Through His death and resurrection, Christ did defeat not only Israel’s enemies, but ours as well. For His precious blood conquered sin, death, and the power of the evil One forever. And His mighty weapons of warfare are the same ones we should use for all battles. Love, humility, and self sacrifice.

December 15th – Isaiah 61:1-3

Isaiah 61:1-3

When some people send out Christmas cards, they include a Christmas letter. They share the news of all that happened with their families throughout the year. Jesus also has a letter to share. And in it He proclaims God’s good news to all who are afflicted. Because of His great love, God sent His only begotten Son to bring healing, freedom, and comfort to a hurt and broken world. And to those He calls His own He gives great gifts. A garland instead of ashes. The oil of gladness instead of mourning. And the mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting. Calling us “oaks of righteousness”, Jesus says that with Him as our root, we can withstand anything. What a precious Christmas letter to receive! One filled with love from our Savior, Jesus Christ, proclaiming the favorable year of the Lord. A time characterized by God’s grace, redemption, and deliverance!

December 14th – Isaiah 42:1-4

Isaiah 42:1-4

Our society loves celebrities. And we treat them like royalty. We follow them on social media, copy their every move and dream of having their lavish lifestyle. Yet the greatest celebrity of all didn’t come to be idolized or to walk red carpets. Jesus Christ, Lord of lords, and King of kings, came not with pomp and circumstance. He didn’t come in a blaze of glory. And He didn’t come carrying a rod of iron to crush His enemies. Instead the prophet Isaiah tells us that our great King came to be a Ruler who serves, who is so compassionate He won’t break a bruised reed, and who came to suffer. The greatest King of all was born in a insignificant town in great humility to unknown parents. He didn’t live in a palace or enjoy the comforts of celebrity. Jesus came as the humble Servant of God not for His benefit, but for ours. A mighty King who suffered to bring justice to all and set us free.

October 23rd – 1 John 1:5

1 John 1:5

Many false religions teach that Jesus was many things, except God in the flesh. But the Bible is very clear. Only those who truly believe that Christ is the Messiah and that it is only though Him can we receive salvation, are His children. And as proof of our family membership, love should spilling out of every area of our lives. And that love should especially be prevalent for our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. For John says that those claim to love God, but have no love for others is a liar. (1 John 4:20). Our Heavenly Father showed and continues to show unconditional, unending, love for His children. And as extensions of the Lord on this earth, we need to example that love in all we do. Because when we love with conditions, not only do we turn others away from Christ, we wound the heart of God. For it the wish of every parent for their children to love and care for each other with a true sibling devotion.
