January 18th – Numbers 14:1

Numbers 14:1

There’s no two ways about it. Change is hard, messy, and painful. That’s why so many of us stay stuck where we are. Because often it’s easier to deal with demon you know, than the one you don’t. I think about the Israelites. They take a lot of flack from people who don’t understand why they didn’t enter the promised land running with excitement and yelling for joy. But put yourself in their shoes. The generation to enter Canaan was a protected one. For forty years all they knew was a life of peace and plenty under the care of God. Now they were being called to become mighty warriors in His army. To go from a people with a faith, to a people with a mission. A call given to us as well. God doesn’t want us to be stuck in mediocrity. Or to be content with merely having a lukewarm faith. He wants us to become people with a mission. To allow His loving grace to transform us into battle ready soldiers. Ones working for His kingdom and glory, spreading His message of love and eternal life to a desperate, and often hostile, world.

April 13th – Numbers 23:19

Numbers 23:19

We’ve all heard it said that people will let you down, but God never will. We are fallen beings living in a fallen world. That means at some point in our lives, we will be hurt, betrayed, and disappointed by other people. And we too will do our share of hurting others. But in good times and bad, joy and sorrow, we can turn to God. Because our Lord will always be there to perfectly love and comfort us. Unlike our sinful humanity which lies, and changes its mind, God is faithful and reliable. Never will He hurt or betray us. The words He speaks are always honest and true. And when the Lord makes a promise, He will always act on and fulfill it. Even when we face times of doubt and uncertainty, God remains true. And when others walk away from us, He remains steadfast in His love. Unlike humans who are fickle and unreliable, we can forever trust in God’s goodness and character.

Our Faithful God – Deuteronomy 7

Deuteronomy 7

Recently while driving to an appointment, I took a wrong turn and ended up in an unfamiliar part of the city. Caught in traffic, and headed the wrong way, as soon as I was able I pulled over. There I got my bearings and called my husband to share my predicament. After hearing my plight he asked, “Why didn’t you just follow the route the GPS gave you?” I meekly replied, “Because I thought my way was better.” …

July 28th – Numbers 8:4

Numbers 8:4

God gave Moses detailed instructions how the tabernacle lampstand was to be made, and where it was to be placed. And as it was the only light source, it was the job of Aaron and his sons to make sure the lamp burned continuously, both day and night. The lampstand is a symbol of Christ Jesus, the true Light of the world. (John 8:12) The One who leads all out of darkness, and into His saving light. (1 Peter 2:9) And as Christian’s, we in turn are the lamps supporting Him. For the Lord calls us to be examples of His shining light in a spiritually darkened world. (Matt. 5:14-16) Dr. Charles Stanley says our mission as Christians is to be, “lights burning with the fire of heaven.” So today and everyday let’s lead lives burning day and night with the light of Jesus. And out of love for our Savior, joyfully spread the saving message of the Gospel, so that all will praise our Father in heaven!

Focused On His Goodness – James 1

When each day brings with it new stories of violence, atrocities, and horrors, it’s getting harder to find the good in the world. I often find myself crying out, “Why God? Why did you allow this to happen?” During the time of James, the scattered Jewish Christians shared these same feelings. Tired of the injustice, poverty, and corruption of Rome, they were angry at God for the evil of the world.
