Overcomer

January 19th – John 16:33

John 16:33

On this side of heaven, a trouble-free life was never promised. In fact, Jesus told us plainly that hardship, sorrow, and trials would be part of our journey. Especially if we choose to follow Him. There will be moments when life feels heavy, unfair, and overwhelming. And there will be seasons when peace seems distant and fragile. We may wonder why the road is so hard or why relief doesn’t come sooner.

Yet Jesus didn’t stop with the warning. He also gave us a promise filled with hope. He reminded us that He has already overcome the world. He’s overcome every struggle in it, and every fear that tries to undo us. Because of that truth, we don’t have to live defeated or ruled by fear. In Christ, we are offered a deep, steady peace that does not depend on circumstances. A peace the world cannot give and cannot take away. Even in the middle of trouble our hearts can rest knowing the battle has already been won. And our Savior walks with us through every storm, holding us securely in His love.

Reflection Question:
Where in your life do you need to lean into the peace Jesus promises, rather than focusing on the trouble around you?

Prayer Prompt:
Lord Jesus, You see the struggles I face and the weight they place on my heart. Thank You for overcoming this world and offering me a peace that cannot be shaken. Help me trust You in the middle of my trials and rest in the victory You have already won. Amen.

June 12th – John 16:33

John 16:33
I love the quote by preacher John Bunyan which says, “Temptations, when we meet them at first, are as the lion that roared upon Samson; but if we overcome them, the next time we see them we shall find a nest of honey within them.” The world is full of temptations and trials. And life for Christians has been promised by Jesus to be anything but easy. (John 16:1-4) Yet because the Lord has overcome the world, through Him, we can face anything. And the things that once tripped us up, we can overcome. To overcome means “to carry off the victory.” And that’s exactly what Jesus has done. He is the great Overcomer. And by the grace of God, He let’s us participate in that victory. So no matter what we face, if we remember the promises of the Lord, we can win every test and overcome every scheme of the Enemy.

November 6th – 1 Peter 4:16

1 Peter 4:16

Some scholars say that back in Peter’s time, being called a Christian was used as an insult by unbelievers. But we know there is nothing more wonderful than being known as a follower of Christ. And what an honor it is to suffer for Jesus’ sake. For one day, His glory will be revealed to all. And every knee will bow, every mouth confess Him as Lord. So any pain we experience as a Christian, we will do so thankfully, boldly, and without shame. Because nowhere do we resemble Christ more than when we endure hardship for His name and glory. In a world that tries to remove God from everything, Christian’s will face mockery, abuse, and even death. But oh the rewards we will receive when we stand before the Lord as overcomers. For just as we share in Christ’s suffering, we will share in His glory!

October 5th – Revelation 21:7

Revelation 21:7

We all recognize these lyrics. “Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to him belong, they are weak, but He is strong.” As sons and daughters of the world we are weak, sinful, and conquered. But as sons and daughters of God we are strong, righteous, and overcomers. Overcomers who don’t just have faith, they put that faith into action by dying to self and fleshly living. The ones who, through the power of Jesus, live victoriously over the power of the Enemy. For as 1 John 4:4 tells us, “Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” And to those who overcome and endure to the end, God promises wonderful rewards. Rewards greater than we could ever imagine, and ones that will make all we go through in this lifetime worthwhile.
