Peter

January 15th – 1 Peter 3:14

1 Peter 3:14

No one is immune to the feelings of fear and anxiety. Not even the apostle Peter. Throughout the ministry of Christ, Peter was by His side helping, learning, and personally seeing the miracles our Lord performed. Even so, when confronted by an angry crowd after the arrest of Jesus, Peter denied knowing his Savior. And not once, but three times. Why? Because fear, even for a disciple, isn’t easy to overcome. Not easy, but not impossible when we work in God’s power instead of our own. It is God’s power that allows us to live differently from the world. For when we sanctify Christ in our hearts, we need ‘t be troubled. For the Lord gives us a peace that nothing and no one can take away. And by keeping our focus on God we can, like Peter, walk safely on the most troubled waters hand in hand with the Lord.

November 11th – Romans 1:8

Romans 1:8

There is nothing more rewarding than seeing someone you helped bring to Christ, declare Him as their Savior. That is the same joy Paul felt when writing to the Romans. The apostle gave thanks that they had they received Jesus, and their faith was being proclaimed in all the world. The greatest calling God gives to us is the same He gave to Paul. To boldly share the Good News of Jesus Christ throughout the world. God calls us to lead lives that shine brightly with His glory. So brightly, others are attracted to Him like moths to a flame. “Always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence.” (1 Peter 3:15) The sand in the hourglass is running out. Jesus will soon return. And out of hearts of thankfulness for His saving grace, we need to proclaim the Gospel while there is still time!

August 10th – 1 Peter 4:14

1 Peter 4:14

There is a quote by Dr. Charles Stanley that says, “Persecution can cause either growth or bitterness in the Christian life. It is our response that determines the outcome.” The early believers of the Asia Minor church were being persecuted because of their faith in Jesus. And now almost two thousand years later, Christians are still being persecuted. Following Jesus isn’t easy. And nowhere in the Bible does God say the life of a Christian will be smooth sailing. In fact He promises just the opposite. But we can let the trials of life make us bitter, or we can rejoice in the suffering we endure on behalf of Jesus. Bitterness turns us away from the Lord, and hardens our hearts. But joy reminds us that the Spirit of God dwells in us, and deepens our relationship with Him. And God promises that if we share in Christ’s sufferings, one day we will also share in His glory.

Bloom Where You Are Planted – 1 Corinthians 7

1 Corinthians 7

During the days of Paul, the city of Corinth was a metropolis of wealth and immorality. A place in desperate need of the church Paul founded. This early church struggled in the midst of a pagan culture, so in response to the confusion of its members Paul wrote letters of both encouragement and instruction. One of the many issues Paul addressed, were the feelings of discontentment that plagued some of those who were still being influenced by a society who glorified the idea of “more”. …

July 3rd – 1 Peter 2:16

1 Peter 2:16

As Americans, we value our personal freedoms. And as Christians the personal freedoms we enjoy were purchased by Christ at a high price. Jesus shed His precious blood to free us from the bondage of sin and death. And we are not to use that freedom as a free pass to live a life of sin. Peter exhorts Believers not to use the gift the Lord gave as a “cloak of wickedness”, but rather to use our freedom to serve God. For we are a “chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession.” (1 Pet. 2:9) We are Christ’s representatives on earth. And as such, we need to be examples of His patience, grace, and obedience. To show the world that freedom tempered with self control and love, honors all people. And by obeying the will of God in loving obedience, we silence the unbelieving ignorance of a lost and wicked world. (1 Pet. 2:15)

June 22nd – John 14:1

John 14:1

Just before His arrest and Crucifixion, Jesus dropped some bombshells on His disciples. He warned them about His upcoming death, the betrayal of one of His own, and Peter’s denials. Yet the Lord also comforted them with these words. “Do not let your heart be troubled.” How could their hearts not be troubled after all the heartache that would soon take place? Because rather than being the end, Jesus’ death was the beginning of some wonderful blessings. The Helper, the Holy Spirit, would now come to indwell every believer. And Jesus, as a bridegroom does for his bride, was going to prepare a magnificent, wonderful, place for His beloved church. And one day soon, Christ will return for those who believe in Him, and bring them to their eternal home.

June 15th – 1 Peter 4:13

1 Peter 4:13

Jesus suffered greatly during His time on earth. He was ridiculed, scorned, beaten, tortured, and made to suffer a thief’s death. And as His followers, we too will face such suffering. For as Jesus tells us, “You will be hated by everyone because of My name…” (Matt. 10:28) And though no one likes hardship, Peter tells us not only to expect suffering, but to rejoice in it. For when we suffer because of our faith, we suffer for Christ as His body on earth. We rejoice knowing the privilege it is to share the suffering of our Savior who suffered so much for us. And as Paul reminds us, our momentary affliction is producing for us an eternal glory that is far beyond comparison. (2 Cor. 4:17) Jesus will soon be returning. And on that day, we can rejoice exceedingly when His glory is revealed to all!

May 12th – Acts 10:34

Acts 10:34

When it came to salvation, the Jewish people felt pretty special being God’s chosen. For He protected, loved, and picked them above every other peoples in the world. So they were filled with jealousy when Peter proclaimed God’s plan of salvation is available to all, both Jew and Gentile. But it has always been God’s plan from the start that none of His children should perish. For just like John 3:16 tells us, “whoever” receives Christ as their Savior shall be saved. Not just some, not just a few, but whoever. Because in God there is found no partiality. And all who abide in Him in love and obedience, will receive His gift of everlasting life!

Keep Fervent in Your Love – 1 Peter 4

1 Peter 4

Some people mistakenly believe that being a Christian gives you a “get out of jail free card” when it comes to the trials of life. But adversity is a result of living in a fallen world, and believers aren’t immune from the pain of suffering. And in this chapter, Peter tells us that as Christians not only are we not to be surprised when facing persecution, we are to rejoice when we suffer for our faith. …

March 13th – Acts 3:19

Acts 3:19

When Peter healed the lame beggar, the people were amazed. But Peter wanted them, and us, to know that this healing is available to all. For the man’s deliverance came through the name of Jesus Christ, the name above all others. Believing in His name and authority, can heal every affliction in our souls. Because when return to the Lord in confession and repentance, He is faithful to both heal and restore us back to Himself. And we too will experience times of refreshing and will rejoice in His salvation.
