Holy, true, and honorable things. It’s these good thoughts that lead us closer to Him, and keeps the Enemy from building destructive strongholds in our minds. And when we abide in the Lord, and keep our thoughts on Him, God promises to keep us in His perfect peace. (Isaiah 26:3) Taking control of our minds isn’t easy, but through God not impossible. And when we are masters of our thoughts, we can respond to the world around us as God does; in love, grace, and righteousness.

Philippians 2:3
In the greatest example of humility, Jesus left His glorious throne in heaven to be ridiculed, persecuted, tortured, and crucified. He set aside His royalty to redeem all who call Him Lord. Such selflessness, grace, and sacrifice stands as a model for all Christians. Instead of focusing on ourselves, our needs and wants, we are to put others best interests before our own. Now that doesn’t mean thinking less of ourselves, but rather thinking of ourselves less. If we truly abide in Jesus, then we should follow His golden rule. “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 7:12)

Jesus went to great pains to make Himself known to us. The Lord ministered, healed, suffered, and died so that we may intimately fellowship with Him. But what does it really mean to know Jesus? The apostle Paul tells us knowing Christ is more than just reading His story or hearing the gospel. It means walking in the power of his resurrection, and resting in His love during times of suffering. Knowing Jesus means letting the Holy Spirit work in our hearts and lives. For the Spirit equips us to serve God joyfully, hate sin increasingly, love others sacrificially, and follow Jesus freely.
