Reverance

September 1st – Proverbs 1:7

Week 1 – The Foundation of Wisdom (Proverbs 1:7)

Proverbs 1:7 tells us, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” Meaning true wisdom starts with a deep reverence for God. Now this fear isn’t about being terrified, but rather recognizing God’s holiness, power, and authority over all things. When we fear the Lord, we acknowledge that His ways are higher than ours, humbling ourselves to seek His guidance, instruction, and correction. Yet taking correction, even from God, can be hard for us. Because it challenges our pride and self-sufficiency. We often resist correction, because it exposes our flaws and forces us to confront our mistakes. It requires humility to admit that we don’t have all the answers and that we need God’s wisdom to navigate life. But when we embrace correction as a form of God’s loving discipline, we grow in understanding and maturity. The fear of the Lord then becomes the foundation upon which we build a life of wisdom. Where we learn to accept guidance, instruction, and correction as a necessary part of our spiritual growth.

Questions for Reflection –

  1. How can we cultivate a healthy fear of the Lord in our daily lives to ensure that our decisions and actions are guided by His wisdom rather than our own understanding?
  1. In what ways can we become more open to correction from God and others, and how can we view it as an essential part of growing in knowledge and spiritual maturity?

True wisdom starts with a humble heart that reveres the Lord. Fear God, and knowledge will follow. 🙏🏻❤️

March 25th – Mark 11:12-14

Mark 11:12-14

As we approach the celebration of Resurrection Day, many are the lessons we can learn from Jesus during this most Holy Week. The accounts of Jesus cursing the fig tree and overturning the money-changing tables at the temple, both share a common theme of confronting hypocrisy and spiritual emptiness. In both instances, Jesus reacts strongly against outward displays of religiosity that lack genuine substance. The fig tree, though appearing healthy from afar, bore no fruit, symbolizing the barrenness of a faith lacking true righteousness. Similarly, the money-changing tables in the temple represented a corruption of worship, where greed and deception took precedence over genuine reverence for God. Jesus’ actions in both cases serve as a powerful rebuke against a superficial faith, and a call to authentic devotion and spiritual integrity. They remind us that God what values most of all, is a sincere heart and genuine worship above mere outward appearances.

November 24th – Psalm 33:18

Psalm 33:18

Just as an anchor secures a boat in the midst of turbulent waters, anchoring to God provides stability and security in the difficulty of life’s challenges. Anchored to God keeps us grounded in unwavering faith and divine principles, and prevents us from drifting away from the Lord. But to be so grounded in the Lord means cultivating a deep reverence for all God is, does, and blesses us with daily. It involves acknowledging His sovereignty and cherishing the hope found in His steadfast love. As we navigate life’s challenges, this awareness becomes a source of enduring strength. Our hope is not in our own capabilities or in the uncertainties of the world but in the constancy of God’s love. This invites us to place our trust in the Lord, embracing the assurance that His loving gaze sustains and empowers us to endure, regardless of the circumstances we face. Being anchored to God stabilizes the soul, providing a firm foundation for navigating the unpredictable seas of life. It’s a grounding force that provides stability, strength, and a sense of purpose.

September 18th – Job 36:14-16

Job 37:14-16

Listen to this, Job; stop and consider God’s wonders. Do you know how God controls the clouds and makes his lightning flash? Do you know how the clouds hang poised those wonders of him who has perfect knowledge?”

Between satellites, super powered telescopes, and exploratory spacecraft, science has gathered much information about our universe. Yet as Job’s friends pointed out, only God has perfect knowledge. So how could the awe inspiring nature of the universe and our limited understanding not humbles us? For there are aspects of God’s creation and His ways that are far beyond our comprehension. This humility in turn leads to a deeper appreciation of the Lord’s mysteries. And a recognition of our dependence on the wisdom and protection of God. It also inspires a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around us. Just as Job was encouraged to consider God’s wonders, we also should marvel at the awesomeness of creation. From the complexity of the natural world to the marvels of science and technology. Because by doing so, we can cultivate a deeper reverence for God. And a greater appreciation for the beauty and order that surrounds us.

June 27th – Psalm 130:4

Psalm 130:4

But with You there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve You.

One of the most wonderful things about God’s forgiveness is that it’s not a one and done. Instead it’s a continual process that enables us to approach God with reverence and gratitude. Anytime, anywhere, whenever we sin, God wants us to come to Him in confession and repentance. Our heavenly Father understands our human nature and the struggles we face. And so He lovingly extends His forgiveness to us with open arms. Always inviting us to turn away from our wrongdoings and embrace a renewed relationship with Him. God’s forgiveness is a reminder that His love is greater than our failures. Because of that love, the Lord desires to see us grow and thrive in His righteousness. Through His continuous forgiveness, God offers us the opportunity to experience His transformative power and live a life filled with hope, purpose, and restoration.

May 19th – Hebrews 4:16

Hebrews 4:16

When it comes to prayer, God isn’t looking for mealymouthed, wish washy, timid followers. He’s looking for strong, bold, prayer warriors. Those who know that because we are loved and accepted by God, we can come before Him anytime, anywhere, asking for anything, without fear or hesitation. But boldly coming before the Lord requires confidence, honesty, surrender, and persistence. Confidence means having unshakable faith and trust in God’s character and promises. Honesty means bringing our true selves before Him, without pretense or hiding. Surrender means knowing the Lord always knows best, seeking His guidance and direction above our own. And persistence means not giving up or being discouraged when we don’t see immediate answers or solutions. Being bold before God isn’t about being disrespectful or demanding. But reverence and humility, combined with confidence and trust in God’s goodness and faithfulness. And an invitation to approach Him with freedom, faith, and love.
