Right Hand of the Father

August 8th – Colossians 3:1

Colossians 3:1

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.”

With the rapid and continuing decline of today’s society, I can’t help but selfishly cry, “Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!” And I say selfishly because as desperately as I look forward to Christ’s return, I know that as Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father, He has important work to do. As the hour is short before He comes again, He’s busy acting as our High Priest, Advocate, and Mediator. In the exalted position that only He can hold, Jesus intercedes on our behalf. Day and night He presents our prayers, needs, and concerns before God. And with His sacrificial work on the cross ever-present, He advocates for our forgiveness and redemption. As if of all of this wasn’t enough, Jesus is also actively ruling over all creation. Faithfully He orchestrates the course of history according to God’s divine plan. For He is the King of kings and Lord of lords, exercising sovereign authority over the universe. And in His great love, Jesus is holding His glorious return until everyone has had the chance to receive Him as their Savior.

November 24th – 1 Peter 2:24

1 Peter 2:24

I am thankful Jesus paid the sin debt of every person who has ever lived

Knowing full well the agony He would endure, the Lord willingly and lovingly left His glorious place at the Father’s side. All to pay a debt He did not owe, and to give us a gift we do not deserve. And it is only through His great love and sacrifice that we can have eternal life. I love the quote by D.A. Carson which says, “It was not nails that held Jesus to that wretched cross; it was His unqualified resolution, out of love for his Father, to do his Father’s will—and it was His love for sinners like me.” Jesus suffered for us. He suffered for you, for me, and for all who receive Him as their Savior. He was beaten, flogged, spit upon, ridiculed, and nailed to a Cross to die an excruciating death. And It is by those wounds, that shed precious blood, in which we are healed. On this day of thanksgiving, may we praise the Lord above, who died to give us life, and who removed the penalty of our sins forevermore!

June 19th – Psalm 24:7

Psalm 24:7

In Psalm 24, David makes a plea to Jerusalem to make room for the King of glory to enter the city. Who is the King of glory? To the priests the King of Glory is the Lord Almighty.  To the the people the King of glory is Jesus. Both are right, for Jesus is the Lord Almighty and the King of glory. Christ is the One with “clean hands and a pure heart.” Jesus is our Lord and Savior who triumphed over death through His resurrection. And now He reigns in glory at the right hand of the Father making daily intercessions on our behalf. Our Lord stands waiting for the gates of our hearts to be “lifted up” letting the King of glory in. One who longs to fill our hearts with peace, and to give rest to our weary souls. Won’t you open the gates to your heart and life and receive the perfect love and peace that only Jesus can offer?
