July 20th – Matthew 6:19-20

Matthew 6:19-20

We live in a world swimming with debt. And because society urges us to accumulate material treasures, to strive for wealth, status, and possessions, many people live beyond their means. All with the intent of, “keeping up with the Jones’.” But Matthew tells us otherwise. He says as Christians we are called to value heavenly treasures over earthly possessions. The allure of gold and worldly riches is fleeting and vulnerable to decay and theft. But the treasures we store in heaven, are eternal and incorruptible. Acts of kindness, love, faith, and service are investments in our spiritual bank, yielding returns far greater than any earthly wealth. These heavenly treasures reflect the character of Christ and bring glory to God. And secure a legacy that outlasts our earthly existence. By prioritizing spiritual riches, we live with an eternal perspective, finding true fulfillment and purpose. This shift in values transforms our lives, freeing us from the relentless pursuit of material gain and aligning our hearts with God’s eternal kingdom.

July 3rd – Galatians 5:13

Galatians 5:13

The freedom we find in Jesus liberates us from the bondage of sin and self-centeredness. Instead, redirecting our lives towards love and service. This newfound freedom isn’t a license to pursue selfish desires, but a call to emulate Christ’s love in our daily lives. By being free in Jesus, we are empowered to look beyond our own needs and to seek the well-being of others. Allowing us to reflect God’s love in practical ways. We can use this freedom to volunteer our time, offer support to those in need, and show compassion to those who are hurting. Serving humbly in love means putting others before ourselves, listening with empathy, and acting with kindness. It transforms our relationships, enabling us to be agents of peace and joy in the world. To live out this freedom, we can ask God to soften our hearts and open our eyes to opportunities to serve. By embracing this call of love and humility, we align our lives with the selfless example of Jesus. This makes our freedom a testimony to His grace and a blessing to those around us.

June 29th – Matthew 12:33

Matthew 12:33

Matthew 12:33 reminds us that a tree is recognized by its fruit. Meaning it’s our actions, not our words, which reveal our true nature and allegiance. When we accept Jesus as our Savior, the Holy Spirit indwells within us. Immediately He begins the work of transforming our hearts and guiding us toward producing good fruit, actions that are pleasing to God. Qualities like kindness, patience, and humility, the Spirit urges us to embrace and reflect in our lives. Through acts of service, compassion, and integrity, we demonstrate the transformative power of Christ in us. This authentic expression of faith influences those around us, showing the world who we are and to whom we belong. Our deeds, driven by a heart touched by the Spirit, become a testimony of God’s love and power. As we consistently seek to align our actions with God’s will, we produce fruit that glorifies Him, fulfilling our purpose as His followers. In doing so, we move beyond mere words, allowing our lives to become a living testament to our commitment to Christ.

June 4th – John 13:34-35

John 13:34-35

Author Elizabeth George once said, “It’s easy to talk about how much you love God, but loving others reveals how much you truly do.” To love others as Jesus love us we can start by practicing empathy, truly listening to and understanding the needs and feelings of others. Acts of kindness, no matter how small, can brighten someone’s day and show them they are valued. Forgiving as Jesus forgives us is another crucial aspect. Along with serving others, for it reflects Christ’s servant heart. Encouragement through offering words of affirmation and support, can uplift those who are struggling. Also, being available for those in need, showing patience during difficult times, and praying for others are powerful ways to demonstrate Christ-like love. Ultimately, our love should be unconditional. One which expects nothing in return, and mirrors the boundless love that Jesus gives to us. By loving others as our precious Savior loves us, we fulfill His commandment and make His love visible to the world.

April 19th – 2 Timothy 2:21

2 Timothy 2:21

Spring’s arrival brings with it a season of preparation. A time when gardeners diligently till the soil and sow seeds in hopeful anticipation of the abundant harvest to come. In much the same way, our spiritual journey requires intentional preparation and cultivation. The soil of our hearts needs tilling, to remove any obstacles that hinder the harvest in our own lives. Intentional seeds of love, grace, and obedience need to be sown with care in the hopes of producing a garden of fruits for the Lord. Today, let us pause and seek God’s guidance in preparing our hearts to be vessels of His love and grace. May we surrender any impurities or distractions that hinder our effectiveness in His service, allowing Him to mold us into instruments for His divine purposes. With hearts purified and minds focused, let us step forward with confidence, ready to do the good works that God has prepared in advance for us to do. All with the goal of yielding an abundant harvest for God, and bringing glory to His name.

October 24th – Proverbs 3:10

Proverbs 3:10

God loves to bless us abundantly. And He does so with the intention that we in turn, will use what He gives to help others. For just as He told Abram, we are blessed to be a blessing. (Gen. 12:1-3) That’s why it’s important to have a heart that embraces stewardship and generosity. Being mindful to use God’s blessings not only for our own needs, but also for the greater good. As Christians we no longer live under the law but under grace. That means we are no longer legally required to tithe. But it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t. Because everything we have is from God and belongs to Him. And out of gratitude for all He is, does, and blesses us with, we should eagerly want to give back to Him. Whether it’s money, time, service, or prayer, we all have something to give. Something we can use to be instruments of God and bless another. We can’t out-give God. And He promises that the more we use our blessings to help others, the greater our blessings will be! So give and give so more. And watch the blessings flow!

July 11th – Philippians 2:3

Philippians 2:3

God doesn’t want us to just be good, He wants us to be great. Being great is twofold. Because to be great is to serve God, and serving God means serving others. Each day we are called to make ourselves available to Jesus. Ready and willing to be used in His service. And whatever it is He asks of us, we are to do with love, humility, and joy. Not with an attitude of resentment, or with the “woe is me” spirit of a martyr. And especially not for our own ego, or for our star to shine. All things should be done for the glory of God alone. As believers we are given at least one spiritual gift and are commanded to, “employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”, (1 Pet. 4:10). When our hearts and minds are focused on pleasing the Lord and helping others, we can find a deep fulfilling joy. One that comes with being a humble servant of the Almighty God.
