Singing

June 10th – Psalm 16:11

Psalm 16:11

A.W. Tozer once said, “Nothing in or of this world measures up to the simple pleasure of experiencing the presence of God.” There is great joy to be found in the Lord’s love and guidance, which renews our spirit and uplifts our hearts. To experience this joy we can engage in daily practices such as prayer, which allows us to communicate with God and draw near to Him. Worship, through singing and praise, connects our hearts to God’s greatness and goodness. Reading the Bible helps us understand His will and promises, bringing His presence into our lives. Fellowship with other believers can also enhance our sense of God’s presence, as we encourage and support each other in faith. Spending time in nature, admiring God’s creation, can remind us of His majesty and nearness. And practicing gratitude daily shifts our focus to God’s blessings, fostering a joyful heart. By incorporating these practices, we cultivate a continual awareness of God’s presence, allowing His joy to fill and sustain us through every circumstance.

April 6th – Psalm 96:12-13

Psalm 96:12-13

Martin Luther once said, “Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us.” Nature sings of God’s glory and majesty, from the tallest mountains to the depths of the seas, filling our hearts with awe and wonder. With each sunrise and sunset, with every rustle of the leaves and chirp of the birds, creation proclaims the greatness of our Creator. Let us join creation’s chorus, lifting our voices in harmony with the wind, the waves, and the whispering trees. For He who formed the heavens and the earth deserves all honor and praise. As the rivers flow and the flowers bloom, let us be reminded of God’s faithfulness and love that never fades. With hearts overflowing with gratitude, let us declare His wonders to the nations, sharing the gladness of His salvation. For in God’s presence, there is fullness of joy, and in His light, we find true peace. So let us make music, rejoice, and be glad, for the Lord reigns over all the earth, now and forevermore.

February 3rd – Zephaniah 3:17

Zephaniah 3:17

What I love most about this verse in Zephaniah is that it reveals a God not stoic, rigid, and unfeeling, but one who laughs, delights, and rejoices over us with boundless joy. Too many times we think of God in heaven looking down on us with scorn and anger. But instead when He sees us, His flawed and imperfect yet beloved creation, He finds happiness. It’s a divine mystery that astounds the human heart and humbles the soul. How, in His infinite love and mercy, God looks upon us with affection. And He celebrates our existence with jubilant songs of praise. The fact that the Lord takes delight in us, sinful as we are, is a testament to the incomprehensible nature of His grace and mercy. For in our Father’s eyes, we are not defined by our mistakes but by His amazing love that seeks to redeem and restore us. So may we bask in the beauty of His unending delight. And find comfort in the knowledge that we are cherished beyond measure by the One who formed us in His image.

January 15th – Psalm 71:23

Psalm 71:23

The Christian life is meant to be one of joy and celebration. A celebration of all God is and His amazing, unmerited blessings. David knew this well. The psalms he wrote, no matter the subject, were songs from his heart to the heart of his beloved Creator. All in worship to the God who was his everything. No matter what he faced, David had an unquenchable inner joy. A joy stemming from his great love for God. One that put a song on his lips and made his heart burst into singing praises to the Lord. As lovers of God, we too should have a song in our heart. One that yearns to burst from our lips and sing the praises of God. For once we were dead in our sin, and enemies of the Lord. Yet from His great love, God redeemed, adopted, and provided a path to eternal life. And if that wasn’t enough, He is intimately involved in every aspect of our lives as our Father, Comforter, Provider, and Friend. Knowing all of this, how can we not have that same inner joy as David!

November 22nd – Colossians  3:16

Colossians  3:16

God never intended the Christian walk to be a solo one. We are all members of a divine family, and us such we are meant for fellowship with one another. Why? Because a big part of growing in our relationship with the Lord depends on the encouragement, love, grace, and teaching from other Believers. We are brothers and sisters in Christ, that make up God’s heavenly choir. A choir which sings in harmony together, songs that spring forth from hearts overflowing with thankfulness for all the Lord does and all He is.

November 9th – Psalm 28:7

Psalm 28:7

Did you know that singing not only can boost your mood, but also alleviate anxiety and stress? David knew all about anxiety. Constantly chased by his enemies and a king who wanted him dead, the book of Psalms is filled with the cries of David for deliverance. But even when it seemed hopeless, he never gave up, never gave in to despair. Instead David remembered the promises of his Father in heaven, and trusted in His goodness. And from a heart filled with joy, sang songs of praise to God for His love and faithfulness.
