Spiritual Fruit

October 9th- John 15:1-8

John 15:1-8

Jesus beautifully portrays the relationship between Himself as the vine and us as the branches. For just like branches draw strength, and life from the vine, we draw everything we need from our union with Christ. And as we remain in Him, abiding in His love and truth, we find an abundant source of grace, wisdom, and transformation. But sometimes those branches need pruning. And although pruning may seem painful, it’s an essential process for our growth and fruitfulness. A skilled gardener trims away dead or unproductive branches to promote health and fruit-bearing. And as our great Gardener, God prunes our lives to remove what is unfruitful or hindering our spiritual growth. He trims away the dead branches of distractions, sin, and worldly attachments from our lives. All to refine our character, help us grow strong, and enable us to bear abundant spiritual fruit. God’s care and commitment to our well-being, ensures we remain connected to Him, flourish in His love, and bring glory to His name.

February 3rd – Luke 6:44

Luke 6:44

Jesus says that each of us is a fruit bearing tree. And the way in which we live our lives, meaning the decisions we make, the words we speak, and our actions towards others, determine the goodness of our bounty. The world is starving for the ripe, filling, spiritual fruit of God. And I want my tree to be one that produces an abundant harvest for the Lord. To do that I need to dig deep in the dirt. Fertilizing my roots with God’s Word to get firmly planted in Him. My branches need to stretch far and wide in the hopes of providing love and comfort for others. My trunk needs to be healthy and strong before I notice the flaws in another’s. And my leaves need to seek the light of God’s presence. Trusting in Him alone to provide the warmth and nutrients I need for my fruit to grow and ripen. Doing all, “in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of the Lord.” (Col. 1:10)

June 10th – Luke 10:41-42

Luke 10:41-42

Could you imagine entertaining the Savior of the world in your own home? When Martha heard Jesus was coming to dinner, she rushed about preparing the meal and making sure everything was just right. But her strive for perfection, made her miss out on a amazing opportunity to spend time with the Lord. And as Jesus  admonished Martha, and all of us Martha’s out there, instead of sweating the small stuff and being “bothered by many things”, our focus should be on Him. Our priority above all else should be time spent at the feet of Jesus, listening to to the words of our Savior. Although acts of servitude and humility are important, they should come second to the close, personal fellowship that Jesus wants to experience with each of us. Because without Him we can do nothing. And producing true, good fruit for His kingdom comes only through His guidance and direction.

February 16th – Hebrews 6:1

Hebrews 6:1

Some are content to know only the basics about being a Christian. They let days turn into weeks, weeks into months and months turn into years. Although they have gained new worldly experience, knowledge, and physically they have aged, spiritually they have not grown. And they produce no spiritual fruit. They may attend church and occasionally read their Bible or say a prayer. They may even be able to quote Scripture and recite the lyrics of every popular Christian song. But those words have never penetrated into their heart and made a real difference.

This is not what God desires. God doesn’t want us to be content with an elementary education. He desires to continually challenge and enhance our spiritual growth and understanding. The most important gift we can offer God, who so lovingly saved, us is a teachable and yielded heart. True devotion to God requires letting the potter mold us as clay and truly transform us from the inside out. As God remakes us, we should become more and more reflective of Christ. That is the ultimate goal of spiritual maturity. And just imagine the impact of a collective body of mature Christians reflecting the light of Christ to a dark world.

Blessings,

Becky
