Stewards

May 3rd – Mark 13:35-37

Mark 13:35-37

Jesus often taught in parables. And in Mark 13:35-37, Jesus tells of a traveling man who leaves his servants in charge while he’s gone. A story Jesus tells to impart a sacred charge, entrusting His house, authority, and work to us until His glorious return. As stewards of His divine inheritance, we are called to vigilance and diligence, keeping the lamp of faith burning bright. Just as a master entrusts his servants with responsibility, so too has Christ entrusted us with the sacred task of advancing His kingdom. Let us not grow weary or complacent, but instead, let us labor tirelessly in His name, knowing that our efforts bear eternal significance. With each passing moment, let us remain watchful and ready, for the hour of His return is unknown. May we be found faithful and obedient, fulfilling His purposes until the very minute He comes. And when that moment arrives, may we hear the sweet words of our Master saying, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” as we enter into His eternal joy.

October 16th – Genesis 2:15

Genesis 2:15

The garden of Eden was perfect. Beautiful, fruitful, and overflowing with abundance. Perfectly created by God, it provided everything man needed for life. Adam was tasked with the responsibility of looking after the garden. To be a good steward of the bountiful harvest the Lord so generously blessed him with. We too have been tasked to be stewards of the world around us. For we also have been generously blessed. And just as Adam was entrusted with the care of the garden, we are entrusted with the care of God’s creation. This involves cultivating and preserving not only the gardens of the physical world, but also the spiritual garden of our own hearts and minds. We should nurture the seeds of faith, kindness, and love. Keeping and tending our garden so our lives yield a spiritual harvest which reflects God’s abundant grace. Because like Adam, as stewards we play an integral role in maintaining the beauty and vitality of the Lord’s creation.

January 14th – Luke 16:13

Luke 16:13

Jesus often taught earthly stories with heavenly meanings, called parables. And usually the stories He told were clear in meaning. But the parable of the “Unjust Steward” upon first glance appears to find the Lord commending a crook. For in it we find Jesus seemingly condoning the dishonesty of an unrighteous manger. Yet in truth, Jesus uses the story to teach the importance of caring about our futures, and to warn against the worship of wealth above God. Each of us are God’s stewards. And the wealth He blesses us with, whether it be in the form of money, the ability to teach, a tender heart, or a giving spirit, He expects us to be faithful in managing for the glory of His kingdom. To be just stewards, joyfully and faithfully continuing to go about the Master’s business. And as we do remembering, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” (Col. 3:23-24)
