Storms

March 14th – Deuteronomy 31:6

Deuteronomy 31:6

Anxiety has become an epidemic. Everywhere we turn, people are weighed down by fear. Fear of the future, fear of failure, fear of not having enough, fear of being alone. The world is desperate for courage. But the courage we seek doesn’t come from within us, it comes from trusting the One who holds it all together. I’ve had moments where fear tried to paralyze me. Times when the unknown felt overwhelming, and I wanted to shrink back. But I’ve learned that courage isn’t the absence of fear. Courage is choosing to move forward despite it, knowing that God goes before us.

My heavenly Father has never left me stranded, never abandoned me in the storm. Maybe you’re in a season where fear is screaming louder than faith, where the weight of uncertainty feels unbearable. But you don’t have to carry it alone. God is with you, steadying you, strengthening you, and leading you forward. Even when we don’t see a way, He is already making one. Fear may try to hold you back, but trust in Him will push you forward. For you are never alone, God is always going before you.

May 28th – 2 Timothy 3:1

2 Timothy 3:1

Many people mistakenly believe that being a Christian guarantees a life of smooth sailing, free from trials and tribulations. However Jesus promised exactly the opposite. He assured us that we would face hardships, persecution, and challenges because of our faith. And as we draw closer to His return, these difficulties will intensify for followers of Christ. The world will grow increasingly hostile towards those who uphold biblical truths and live according to God’s standards. Yet despite these challenges, we are called to remain steadfast and faithful, knowing that our sufferings are not in vain. Because it’s through our trials in which our faith is refined and our dependence on God deepened. That’s why the promise of His return gives us hope and strength to endure. For Jesus has overcome the world, and He will be with us through every storm. We can trust in His unfailing love and the ultimate victory we have in Him. So as we await His return, let us cling to our faith and in the eternal glory that awaits us.

February 24th – Psalm 136:26

Psalm 136:26

In every sunrise and every sunset, in every breath we take, we witness the enduring love of God. A timeless and constant love that sustains us through every season of life. And we can find great comfort in knowing His love is not fleeting or conditional, but an eternal anchor that steadies our souls no matter the storm we face. So with hearts overflowing with gratitude, we declare that God’s steadfast love endures forever. With lips bursting with song, we sing praises to His mercy. Because through moments of triumph and trials, His love remains unwavering as a beacon of hope that illuminates our path. In times of joy we rejoice in the abundance of His love, grateful for the blessings He lavishes upon us. In moments of sorrow, we find peace in His enduring love knowing that He walks beside us, offering comfort and strength. With each new morning, we are reminded of His faithfulness. For God’s love endures forever, a constant reminder of His unchanging nature and boundless grace.

November 22nd – Proverbs 23:18

Proverbs 23:18

When we’re in the midst of a storm it can be hard to see past the black clouds to the clear skies ahead. But that’s what Solomon encourages us to do. To look beyond our present circumstances, believe in the promises of God, and know that the trial we’re facing isn’t the final chapter. For we serve an omniscient God. One who sees the storm from beginning to end, and walks beside us through every one. This gives us the hope and endurance we need to keep moving forward. To focus on the wonderful future shaped by God’s faithfulness. By trusting in His plans, we build a foundation for enduring challenges with resilience. For our hope is anchored in something greater than momentary trials. And we can approach challenges with a steadfast belief that God’s purposes will prevail. Filling us with a peace beyond human comprehension. (Phil. 4:7) And one that inspires an enduring hope that transcends the ebb and flow of life, and leads to a triumphant future.

September 12th – Psalm 46:2

Psalm 46:2

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

Natural disasters have been dominating the news. Between the recent fires, hurricanes, and earthquakes, people around the world have taken new interest in the climate. Scientists are searching for the reason why the increased frequency and strength of the disasters. But Christians already know the answer. Because in Luke 21:10-11 Jesus tells us that all of these things show that His glorious return is close. So while we may still experience fear, loss, and hardship during these “birth pangs,” we put our faith in God’s promises. Promises that give us with the inner strength and resilience needed to navigate any and all challenges. And an unshakable hope that providers resilience in the face of adversity. The days will only grow darker before Christ returns. But no matter the storm raging around us, we can find comfort. Through prayer, support from others, and the belief that, ultimately, God is in control, we can stand firm even as the world crumbles around us.

January 9th – Psalm 61:2

Psalm 61:2

When storms rage and the flood waters rise, the wisest advice is always to seek higher ground. Because the higher we climb, the more distance we put between us and the howling winds, the safer we become. And there’s no safer place to be than sheltered in the tent of the Lord. During times when we feel overwhelmed, we have the privilege of sheltering in the refuge of God. With everything happening in the world today, it’s easy for our hearts to become overwhelmed. And although we have no control over what happens around us, we can control how we react. We can either cower and hide, living a life of worry and fear. Or we can trust in God who promises that those who put their faith in Him and not the world, can dwell forever in His fortress of peace and joy.

October 19th – Psalm 91:4

Psalm 91:4

God’s Promises – “I will cover you with My feathers and protect you with My wings.”

We all need a refuge. But sadly, in times of trouble, some seek comfort through alcohol, drugs, food, relationships, or money. But these worldly sanctuaries are nothing more than paper houses that crumble at the first sign of an approaching storm. Yet those who take shelter in Jesus, have an unshakable refuge which can withstand even the greatest typhoon. Isaiah 40:31 compares God’s loving care to that of an eagle. Mighty warriors who protect their young, eagles carry their eaglets away from danger. They fly high above the clouds where the sun shines and no storm rages. Just like that eagle, God carries us on His wings providing all we need to soar through even the toughest of times. And from His unending faithfulness, when we abide in God, we are completely protected under His shelter of strength, love, and grace. And I can think of no safer place to be!

September 13th – Acts 23:11

Acts 23:11

Facing a crowd demanding his death Paul, appealed to have his case heard in Rome before Caesar. Not in an attempt to save his life, but to fulfill the will of the Lord. Paul’s request would indeed get him to Rome. But the passage there thrust him straight into a raging storm so full of fury, if not for God, the life of Paul and all with him would have been lost. Have you ever faced such a storm? As believers in Christ no matter what we face, we are never called to go it alone. Especially when we set out to do God’s will. Because He is with us every step of the way. For as God told Joshua, “Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Josh 1:9) By first seeking the Lord and trusting in His perfect will, we can weather any storm. His Word is a mighty ship so strong, no roaring wind can blow off course. And when we walk in complete obedience to Him, like Paul we too can trust in God’s promise to bring us through any storm and safely to shore.

June 17th – Matthew 24:27

Matthew 24:27

I love a good thunderstorm. The rumbling thunder, cooling rain, wild winds, and especially the flashing lightening. Since I was a kid, I’ve been awed by lightening. The unpredictability of never knowing when or where it will hit, and the power of one flash to light up the entire sky. Lightening is caused by a discharge of electricity that has built up in a cloud. A discharge so strong that it breaks through the ionized air. And that’s exactly how the return of the Jesus will be. Like a flash of lightening, no one will no when or where He will strike. Bursting through the heavens, His power and glory will shine so brightly, the whole world will see Him!

May 1st – Psalm 91:1

Psalm 91:1

When we see a storm approaching, the first thing we do is seek shelter. And when as Christians we face the storm, the safest place to run is to God. It is His presence is where we can rest in safety. For He is our refuge, and His faithfulness our shield. And to those who love Him, God promises to rescue from all evil. “Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high because he has known My name.” (Ps. 91:14) So let the storm rage and the wind howl. For we are safe under the shadow of Almighty!
