Surrender

April20th – James 5:7

James 5:7

Waiting for spring takes great patience, as we wait for the warmth of the sun and the beautiful colors of blooming flowers and trees. Yet just as the changing seasons do so gradually, so too does God’s plan for our lives take shape in His perfect timing. In James 5:7, we are reminded of the importance of patience as we await the fulfillment of God’s promises. Like seeds planted in fertile soil, our dreams and desires require time to take root and grow. So today, let us cultivate patience as we trust in God’s sovereignty and His unwavering faithfulness. And let us embrace the season of waiting with a heart of gratitude, knowing that each moment brings us closer to the realization of the Lord’s purpose for our lives. Because as we surrender our timelines to His divine wisdom, we’ll find peace in the certainty that His plan is always greater than our own. With unwavering faith and steadfast trust, we can navigate the journey ahead. And do so trusting in God’s perfect timing, knowing all things will unfold according to His perfect will.

2 Timothy 2:21

Spring’s arrival brings with it a season of preparation. A time when gardeners diligently till the soil and sow seeds in hopeful anticipation of the abundant harvest to come. In much the same way, our spiritual journey requires intentional preparation and cultivation. The soil of our hearts needs tilling, to remove any obstacles that hinder the harvest in our own lives. Intentional seeds of love, grace, and obedience need to be sown with care in the hopes of producing a garden of fruits for the Lord. Today, let us pause and seek God’s guidance in preparing our hearts to be vessels of His love and grace. May we surrender any impurities or distractions that hinder our effectiveness in His service, allowing Him to mold us into instruments for His divine purposes. With hearts purified and minds focused, let us step forward with confidence, ready to do the good works that God has prepared in advance for us to do. All with the goal of yielding an abundant harvest for God, and bringing glory to His name.

March 3rd – Matthew 26:39

Matthew 26:39

The Garden of Gethsemane, known for its olive trees, was a place of pressing both for olives and Jesus Himself. For it is there where, in His humanity, our Savior grappled with the weight of what He was about to endure. So much so, that He sweat drops of His precious blood. Yet also in this garden of pressing, Jesus demonstrated His complete submission to the Father’s will, showing us the perfect example of obedience and surrender for all time. Because despite His incredible agony Jesus declared, “Not as I will, but as You will.” This amazing sweet surrender of our Lord, echoes through the ages. It stands as a beautiful reminder of the importance of submitting our own will to God’s divine purpose. As we reflect on Jesus’ surrender, we are brought to our knees in humility and gratitude at His sacrificial love. A  love so deep, Jesus was willing to endure unimaginable suffering for our sake. With hearts overflowing with love and thankfulness, let us follow His example and surrender our own wills to God. Trusting in His perfect plan and finding strength in His unfailing love.

January 30th – John 3:30

John 3:30

John the Baptist was a rockstar back in the day. People came from miles around to hear his teachings and be baptized. Yet when the crowds began to dwindle and follow Jesus instead, John wasn’t resentful. Instead, he was filled with humble joy. For John wasn’t about his ego, but about the job appointed to him by God. To prepare the way for the Lord. I want to be a John. I want to surrender my ego and desires to align with God’s will. But to change means letting go of my own agenda, and embracing the transformative power of God’s love and grace. It calls for shifting from self-centeredness to selflessness, from pride to humility. And allowing God to lead me into a new way of thinking, feeling, and acting. It’s about trusting in His guidance and surrendering control, knowing that He alone holds the key to my true fulfillment and purpose in life. I want to become less, so God can become greater in my life. To fully embrace the job He has given me, and complete it joyfully, obediently, and for His glory alone!

January 17th – James 1:1

James 1:1

We all know people who are slaves to the grind, or a slave to love. But not James. James is a slave of God and the Lord, Jesus Christ. Serving his beloved Savior not in bondage, but in a liberating devotion. Finding purpose, joy, and fulfillment in serving the One whose love set him free. I want to be a James. I want to change from being a casual follower of Jesus to a dedicated servant. But the call to be a slave to Jesus involves a profound commitment. It means being willing to relinquish control and allow our faith to bear fruit. James invites us to not merely believe, but to become active participants in a faith journey that yields the fruits of love, obedience, and a life surrendered to Jesus. It prompts us to reconsider the nature of our faith and invites us to make intentional changes. Ones that result in a more profound and fruitful connection with our Savior. The joy of being a slave to Jesus is found in surrendering to His love and discovering true freedom in His grace.

Psalm 37:5

As the curtain closes on 2023, people around the world are making their goals for the new year ahead. I myself am working on a vision board. A place where all my goals are together, and daily I am reminded of each one. When it comes to reflection and intention setting, Psalm 37:5 serves as a guiding light. For our greatest goal should be to commit everything to the Lord, and to trust Him in all things. God invites us to embark on the journey of the upcoming year with a heart surrendered to His guidance. And in the quiet moments of reflection, to ponder not only the aspirations and goals we set, but also to make sure those aspirations line up with God’s. As we commit our plans to the Lord, we acknowledge His wisdom, entrusting our path to the One who created the universe. In the canvas of the coming year, may our intentions be colored by trust, faith, and a genuine desire to walk in step with God’s unfolding plan. November 15th – Proverbs 3:5-6

Proverbs 3:5-6

In Proverbs 3:5-6 Solomon tells us that to find hope and endurance we have to be willing to surrender our trust in ourselves and have complete trust in the Lord. To give up the impulse to depend on our own understanding, and instead give over our path to God’s perfect plan and wisdom. It means actively seeking His guidance in all aspects of life, knowing His thoughts and ways are higher. His strength made perfect in our weakness. It’s a continuous commitment to submission, being ok with not understanding all of God’s workings. Yet faithfully following the path He ordains anyway. In practice, it’s about finding strength and purpose in surrender. Allowing hope to permeate every decision and endurance to be fueled by the belief that, through trusting in the Lord, our paths are guided toward a purposeful and straight course. One that allows us to have victory over every trial, and leads to an eternity spent in the presence of God, Almighty.

Psalm 27:14

Nobody enjoys waiting, as it can feel like an idle and frustrating pause in our lives. But time we spend waiting on the Lord is never wasted. Because those moments of patience and anticipation are filled with opportunity. Opportunity to grow in faith, learn lessons of endurance, and strengthen our trust in God’s timing. It’s a time for reflection, prayer, and self-discovery. Waiting on the Lord is a purposeful act of surrender. A recognition that He knows what’s best for us. The delays we encounter often pave the way for divine blessings, molding our character and preparing us for the plans God has in store.
