2 Corinthians 12:9

I suffer with psoriatic arthritis. And as a result, not a single day goes by when I am not in pain. The number of times I’ve prayed for healing is beyond counting. Yet God’s answer is always the same. “My grace is sufficient for you.” Hardships, pain, and trials are a part of life. And our suffering is no way a measurement of our faith. Look at the apostle Paul. A great man of profound faith who suffered with an unknown, “thorn in the flesh.” He cried out repeatedly for healing, yet God’s answer was always no. God told Paul, like He tells us, that His grace gives us all we need to endure any and all suffering. For His power is made perfect in our weakness. And when we trust and depend on Him, there is nothing we cannot endure. So rejoice and give thanks. For even in our pain, the power of Christ rests upon us.

Every day we get to experience on earth, is a gift from God. And although not every day is a good day, there is always good in every day. For not only are God’s mercies new each morning (Lam. 3:22-23), each day holds its own unique blessings and opportunities to work for His kingdom. God knows the exact number of our days, and expects us to use each one that He gives us to the fullest. So although we might not what the day ahead holds, each morning we can rejoice and be glad. When we receive Jesus as our Savior, wonderful things begin to happen. First, we become adopted members of God’s family. Next, the Holy Spirit enters and gets to work transforming us into the likeness of Jesus. He begins by softening the rough edges of our heart, and fills it with the joy, love, and peace of Christ. A peace we are to let reign in our lives, and a peace we are to extend especially to fellow Believers. And out of thankfulness for the grace shown to us, we need to show the peace of Christ to a world that is anything but.

As fallen beings living in a fallen world, death, suffering, and decay are a part of life. But because of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, one day that will all change. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus conquered sin and death. And one day all Christians will replace these earthly frail and fragile bodies of ours, for new heavenly glorified ones. Imperishable, immortal, magnificent bodies, which will be the perfect images of our Lord. Thanks be to God, for His Son has stolen both the victory and the sting of sin forever!

When the Israelites entered the gates to the temple of God, they sang joyful songs of praise and thankfulness. The gratitude they felt from belonging to the Lord, filled their hearts with gladness. Now, because of Jesus, God’s temple is open to all. And we too can enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise. The Lord is our Shepherd, and we will join the Jewish people in singing a joyful song and serving Him with gladness. Praise and worship the Lord for His goodness, lovingkindness, and everlasting faithfulness!

The Bible makes it very clear that God blesses us to bless others. Christians should consider it a gift to be able to help meet the needs of those around us. For once we were destitute in spirit, dead in sin, and separated from God. But through the blood of Jesus, we are now reconciled to the Father, washed clean, and called His own. And out of overflowing hearts of thankfulness for the Lord’s sacrifice and His many blessings, we should be eager and joyful to demonstrate Christ’s love for us to others.

Awhile back a friend of mine, who knows a bit about the Bible yet practices another faith, asked me about the book of Leviticus. He didn’t understand why I, as a Christian, didn’t follow the book’s rules forbidding certain foods. I explained that once we were under the Law, but now through the victory of Jesus, we are under grace. Through His death, Christ gave us the freedom to enjoy all of God’s blessings, including food and marriage. All He asks is that we receive His gifts with hearts of thanksgiving and gratitude.

Psalm 107:8

How wonderful is our God! He truly is our Father! As His beloved children, God provides and cares for our every need. And not just our physical needs, but also our heart and soul. He gives us nourishment, refreshment, healing, and guidance. From the great to the small, God cares about every area of our lives. And just like He rescued and made Israel His own, God longs to do the same for us and, “supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:19) Oh how thankful I am for His love and to Him goes the glory forever and ever!

Do you ever wonder what it means to offer up a “sacrifice of praise” to Jesus? When it comes to praise, it’s easy to rejoice and give thanks to God when we get what we want. But what about when we don’t? Do we still thank Him when His answer to prayer is no? Do we rejoice when we see another’s blessing while waiting on our own? To offer up a sacrifice of praise means, despite disappointment, to have a heart filled with gratitude and lips which speak words of thankfulness for the goodness, grace, and love of God.
