Week 1 – The Wealth of Wisdom (Job 28:17)

Gold and crystal are rare and beautiful treasures highly valued by the world. Yet Job insists that wisdom far surpasses them in worth. Because Gold, no matter how pure, and crystal, no matter how flawless, are ultimately material and finite. But wisdom, on the other hand, holds a deeper, spiritual significance that can’t be mined, purchased, or measured in earthly terms. It’s not something we can obtain through effort or wealth. It’s a divine gift from God alone. One that guides our lives with moral clarity and eternal perspective. While gold and crystal may adorn the outside, wisdom transforms the heart and soul. That’s why true riches can never be found in the material things of the world. And why wisdom’s value is immeasurable. Because it leads us to righteousness, truth, and a life aligned with God’s will. Something no earthly treasure can ever match.

Questions For Reflection –

  1. How can we shift our focus from seeking material wealth to pursuing the wisdom that comes from God, which is far more valuable and lasting?
  1. In what practical ways can we seek and embrace wisdom in our daily decisions, prioritizing spiritual growth over worldly success?

Matthew 6:19-20

We live in a world swimming with debt. And because society urges us to accumulate material treasures, to strive for wealth, status, and possessions, many people live beyond their means. All with the intent of, “keeping up with the Jones’.” But Matthew tells us otherwise. He says as Christians we are called to value heavenly treasures over earthly possessions. The allure of gold and worldly riches is fleeting and vulnerable to decay and theft. But the treasures we store in heaven, are eternal and incorruptible. Acts of kindness, love, faith, and service are investments in our spiritual bank, yielding returns far greater than any earthly wealth. These heavenly treasures reflect the character of Christ and bring glory to God. And secure a legacy that outlasts our earthly existence. By prioritizing spiritual riches, we live with an eternal perspective, finding true fulfillment and purpose. This shift in values transforms our lives, freeing us from the relentless pursuit of material gain and aligning our hearts with God’s eternal kingdom.

2 Corinthians 4:18

As Christians, we are called to have eyes that focus on the eternal promises of God. With faith as our lens, seeing the unseen and trusting in His unchanging truth. As we await the return of Jesus, let us fix our eyes on the eternal glory that awaits us. For though the troubles of this world may be many, they are but temporary shadows compared to the radiant light of God’s kingdom. So let us not lose heart in the face of adversity. Instead let us focus on the unseen realities of His eternal realm. Because in that beautiful and glorious kingdom, treasures beyond our comprehension await us. Treasures that far outweigh any present suffering we may endure. In light of that truth, may we press on with faith and perseverance, knowing that our current trials are but a passing moment in the grand scheme of eternity. For the glory that will be revealed in us surpasses all earthly pain and hardship. Therefore, let us eagerly anticipate the day when we will be united with Jesus forever, basking in the fullness of His love and glory for all eternity.

Matthew 6:19-21

I can remember as a child watching the television show, “The Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous.” Each episode I blown away by the expensive houses, cars, jewelry, and fashion highlighted. Yet as nice as earthly treasures are, Matthew urges us to set our hearts instead on storing up treasures in heaven. For in a world where material possessions fade and riches are fleeting, the kingdom of God stands as an eternal and incorruptible inheritance. One that will never tarnish, or can be taken away. So instead of chasing after worldly pleasures and treasures, let us prioritize the work of the Lord, knowing that our true reward awaits us in eternity. May our lives be characterized by sacrificial love, compassionate service, and unwavering devotion to God’s will. And as we await the fulfillment of His promises, let us live with joyful anticipation. Because our ultimate inheritance is eternal life in Christ. Where joy abounds, every tear wiped away, and each longing fulfilled in His glorious presence.

Colossians 1:5

“Because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel.”

Many are the rewards waiting for us in heaven. Besides the crowns that we will lay at the feet of Jesus, there will be joy, rejoicing, glorified new bodies, and an eternity spent by the side of Jesus. That’s why Paul encourages us to lead our lives in anticipation of our heavenly treasures. By anchoring our faith in the rewards promised by God, we find the hope to persevere through life’s challenges with unwavering trust. This hope fuels our actions and choices, inspiring us to treat others with genuine love and kindness. Moreover, the promises of eternity enables us to keep a balanced perspective, helping us focus on what truly matters and avoiding being consumed by temporary concerns. And as we navigate through life, because of the hope we have in the Lord, we are guided toward a purposeful and meaningful existence. And all of these wonderful rewards we have as a result of God’s grace. Not earned through good deeds, our treasures in heaven come from the love of God and our love of Christ.
