Wounds

March 22nd – Isaiah 53:5

Isaiah 53:5

The pain we carry can feel unbearable, the wounds from broken relationships, the weight of past mistakes, the silent battles no one sees. But there is One who knows every hurt, every scar, every tear we’ve cried. Jesus bore it all. His back was torn by the whip, His hands and feet pierced, His body crushed under the weight of our sin. He took every ounce of suffering so that we could be healed. Healed not just in body, but in heart, mind, and soul. The blood He shed wasn’t just for a moment in history. It was for you, for me, and for every wound we would ever endure.

When the pain feels too heavy, when the brokenness seems beyond repair, look to the Cross. That is where healing begins. Not in our own strength, not in the world’s empty promises, but in the wounds of the One who died to set us free. His suffering bought our peace, His stripes covered our shame. And through His sacrifice, we are made whole. Whatever hurt you carry today, bring it to Jesus. His love is greater, His healing is real, and His victory is ours.

July 26th – Colossians 3:13

Colossians 3:13

Forgiving those who’ve hurt us can be one of the most challenging aspects of our spiritual journey. The pain and betrayal often feel insurmountable, and can turn into bitterness and resentment. But in those times we face a crucial choice to make. We can be better or we can be bitter. The freedom we have in Jesus transforms our hearts, allowing us to soften and open ourselves to forgiveness. This freedom isn’t about ignoring the hurt or pretending it never happened. Instead, it’s about finding the strength through Christ to release the hold that past wounds have on us. Through Jesus, we gain the courage to forgive even the deepest hurts. Now forgiveness doesn’t always mean reconciliation, but it is a conscious decision to let go of our grievances. One that mirrors the grace which God extends to us. It frees us from the burden of anger and allows us to experience peace and healing. As we choose to forgive, we reflect Christ’s love and grace, preventing bitterness from taking root in our hearts.

March 9th – John 20:25

John 20:25

Thomas famously doubted Jesus’ resurrection until he saw the scars in Christ’s hands and side. But instead of Jesus being angry, He met Thomas in his doubt with compassion and grace. And invited Thomas to see and touch His wounds so Thomas would believe. Then Jesus went further, addressing Thomas’ doubt with a gentle rebuke and an invitation to believe. “Do not disbelieve but believe,” He urged, extending an opportunity for Thomas to deepen his faith. This encounter serves as a powerful reminder of Jesus’ patience and understanding. Especially during times when we, like Thomas, wrestle with doubts. When we question God’s promises and the reality of His presence in our lives. Jesus, like He did with Thomas, meets us in our doubts, offering reassurance and inviting us to trust in Him. As we reflect on Thomas’ journey from doubt to faith, may we too find strength in Jesus’ scars and embrace His invitation to believe, trusting in His promises and the truth of His resurrection.

February 18th – Psalm 147:3

Psalm 147:3

When we suffer a physical wound, we seek a doctor. What about for our spiritual wounds? When our souls are shattered and in need of mending, Christians have the greatest Physician of all in God. As our gentle Healer, the Lord wraps us in His grace. With His tender care, God mends the fractures of our spirits. And in the depths of our despair, His love is the balm that soothes the ache of brokenness. His mercy is the spiritual bandage which heals our innermost being. As the broken pieces of our existence are gathered by the hand of the Almighty, we are reminded of His unfailing promise to mend what is torn. To restore us from even the deepest of hurts, and lift us from the depths of despair. In the sanctuary of His love, there is healing, there is renewal, and there is hope eternal. For we, who are broken, are made whole by the power of His infinite grace. And in the mercy of God’s redemption, our hearts are knit together again, strengthened by His unwavering love that knows no bounds.

June 14th – Ephesians 4:7

Ephesians 4:7

But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.”

In her book “Forgiving What You Can’t Forget”, Lysa Terkeurst writes, “Left to my own deep, deep, woundedness, forgiveness can seem offensive, impossible, and one of the quickest ways to compound the unfairness of being wronged. I cry for fairness. I want blessings for those who follow the rules of life and love. I want correction for those who break them. Is that too much to ask?” When someone hurts us it’s natural to want to see them hurt in return. After all it is “an eye for an eye” right? Not for followers of Jesus. Everyone wants justice. To see the good rewarded and the wicked punished. But who gets to decide who deserves what? God. That’s who. Only He doles out perfect justice. And speaking of justice, it do us well to remember our own guilt and the abundance of unmerited favor and mercy made available to us daily through Christ. And just as God has generously forgiven us, He calls us to extend that same grace and forgiveness to others.
