Zechariah

May 22nd – Zechariah 14:3

Zechariah 14:3

In the quiet hush of dawn, Christ first came. He came not with the roar of a Lion but with the tender grace of a Lamb, walking amongst us in humility and love. But Zechariah’s prophecy regarding the second triumphant return of Jesus is very different. For this time He will come not as the gentle and humble Lamb, but as the fierce Lion of Judah, majestic and mighty. Oh how the anticipation swells within our hearts, knowing that we shall ride alongside Him! On white chargers, our souls ablaze with the fire of righteousness, we too will return. For we will be given the honor and privilege to be counted among the ranks of God’s mighty army. Standing firm in the face of darkness, wielding the sword of truth, we will march boldly for the Lord. So as the days grow short until the dawn of His return, let us lift our voices in joy! Because we are chosen to stand shoulder to shoulder with the King of Kings, as His faithful warriors in the battle for righteousness and redemption.

April 27th – Zechariah 10:1

Zechariah 10:1

We are living in violent, angry, and turbulent times. Where love, unity, and understanding are in short supply. Yet as the days grow more evil, they won’t always be so. Zechariah 10:1 foretells of the coming of spring rains, a beacon of hope amidst the darkness of injustice that plagues our world. Right now, everywhere we look we see the flames of injustice burning bright, casting shadows of despair upon our hearts. We cry out, “Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!” And come He will. One day very soon, Christ will come for His bride. And on that day, God’s justice will descend upon the earth, washing away the stains of injustice and bringing forth renewal and restoration. As we eagerly anticipate the arrival of spring, let us also eagerly await the day when God’s justice will rain down. Bringing healing to the broken, freedom to the oppressed, and righteousness to the land. May our hearts be filled with hope and courage, knowing that God is faithful to His promises and that His justice will prevail in the end.

December 22nd – Zechariah 9:9

Zechariah 9:9

When the Israelites thought about their coming Messiah, they envisioned a mighty, conquering, king riding in on a royal steed. Yet He came not wrapped in a royal robe, but dressed in the clothes of the poor and humble and mounted on a donkey. Why? Because Jesus came to conquer not through violence. But instead through love, grace, mercy, and His own sacrifice for His people. All to to fulfill the will of the Father, and the prophecy of Zechariah. So imagine the excitement and joy filling the crowd as they watched their promised Messiah entering the City of David as the as King of the Jews and heir to the throne. No wonder they couldn’t help but cry out in jubilation, “Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord; hosanna in the highest!” (Matt. 21:9)

Zechariah 7:10

Zechariah 7:10

When Jesus tells us to turn the other cheek, (Matt. 5:39) He knows what He’s asking is hard. Because when we’ve been hurt, betrayed, and disillusioned, our first response is to retaliate. But if Jesus had that attitude, humanity would never have been saved. The Lord had command of over twelve legions of angels at His disposal. At anytime Christ could have walked away from the Cross, and taken revenge against those who wronged Him. Yet instead He responded with unmerited love and kindness, sacrificing Himself for all. In our own strength showing kindness to those who deserve it the least is impossible. But in God’s strength, we can do all things; including loving our enemies. Because we too were once enemies of God. But in His great love, He didn’t give us what we deserved. Instead He gave us kindness, mercy, forgiveness, and everlasting life.

Zechariah 9:9-10

Did you know there are around 574 verses in the Bible predicting the arrival of Jesus? And Israel, waiting for that promised Messiah, clung to every promise. They reveled in the hope of their conquering King. One who would ride into the city of Jerusalem to gloriously slay Israel’s enemies and establish His rule by force. Only that’s not what happened. Jesus didn’t come riding on a glorious steed, swinging a mighty sword. Instead He came as a humble child, born in a stable. And as the Lamb of God, Christ brought with Him the unmerited gifts of peace, justice, and salvation for all. Through His death and resurrection, Christ did defeat not only Israel’s enemies, but ours as well. For His precious blood conquered sin, death, and the power of the evil One forever. And His mighty weapons of warfare are the same ones we should use for all battles. Love, humility, and self sacrifice.

Zechariah 13:1

As we celebrate the birth of our Savior, we give thanks for all He gave to call us His own. He is our source of living water who, through His death, gives us life. The blood of Jesus washes us clean of all sin and impurity. He takes our rags of filth, and replaces them with white robes of righteousness. His ever fountain of forgiveness overflows with grace and mercy for all who call Him Lord. And in His great love, He calls who thirst to drink, “the water of life without cost.” (Rev. 22:17)

Zechariah 9:9

Could you imagine being in the crowd as Jesus made His triumphant entry into Jerusalem? Oh the excitement and joy that filled the crowd as they watched their promised Messiah riding humbly on a donkey, a symbol of peace, entering the City of David as the as King of the Jews and heir to the throne. As they watched the prophecy of Zechariah fulfilled before their eyes, no wonder they couldn’t help but cry out in jubilation, “Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord; hosanna in the highest!” (Matt. 21:9)
