In Matthew 5:16, Jesus calls us to let our light shine before others so they may see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven. While our good works can never earn us salvation, they are a natural outpouring of the salvation we’ve received through Christ. For as Paul reminds us in Ephesians 2:10, “We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”
In other words, we aren’t saved by the good things we do, we’re saved so that our lives can reflect the goodness of the One who saved us. (Ephesians 2:10). And in a world filled with anger, division, and so much darkness, the way we treat others matters.
A kind word, a helping hand, a little patience, or showing grace when it would be easier to criticize, can all reflect the heart of Jesus. We don’t have to do big, extraordinary things to make a difference. Sometimes, the smallest acts of love speak the loudest.
Today, let’s take a moment to reflect on our good works. Do they shine brightly for the glory of God? Do they draw others toward our Heavenly Father like a moth to a flame? After all, we’re not called to be the light of the world in our own strength, but to reflect the One who is. May His light shine through us today!
