Psalm 27:14

Billy Graham once said, “Each life is made up of mistakes, and learning, waiting, and growing, practicing patience and being persistent.” Waiting has never come easy for me, especially when my heart is hurting. Or worse yet, when I’m watching someone I love walk through pain I can’t fix. In a world that promises instant answers and quick relief, being told to wait on the Lord can feel almost unbearable. I catch myself wanting God to move on my timeline. To ease the ache now, and explain the why right away. But Psalm 27:14 gently reminds me that waiting isn’t passive or pointless, it’s an act of trust. Even when the days feel long and the pain feels heavy, God is still in control. He’s still working, and loving me through it all. And in the waiting, He gives strength I didn’t know I had. Strength to endure, hope, and stay rooted in faith when my emotions want to run ahead. I’m learning that waiting doesn’t mean being forgotten, it means being held. And in God’s timing, what feels unbearable now will one day make sense in the light of His goodness.

What situation in your life is God asking you to wait on Him, and how can you choose trust over impatience today?

Prayer Prompt:
Lord, waiting is hard, especially when my heart is hurting. Help me to trust Your timing when I don’t understand Your ways. Give me strength to endure, peace in the pain, and confidence that You are working even when I cannot see it. Teach me to wait with hope, courage, and faith in Your unfailing love. Amen.

Psalm 77:11

Being part of a prayer group has taught me the beauty of remembering. Many of us keep prayer journals. Not just to write down our prayer requests, but to look back and see the many ways God has faithfully answered them. Psalm 77:11 reminds us how important it is to remember the works of the Lord. And especially when our hearts need reassurance. As we step into a new year, it’s easy to focus only on what lies ahead and forget how faithful God was in the year behind. Yet when we pause and look back, we see prayers that were once whispered now answered. We see blessings we never deserved. And an unconditional love that never wavered. Looking back, we remember moments when God showed up in quiet ways. And still others when His hand was unmistakable. These memories become anchors for our faith. They remind us that God has been with us every step of the way. So as we look to the year ahead, we can move forward with confidence. Because the same faithful God who carried us through last year is the same faithful God walking with us into this one.

As you look back on the past year, where can you clearly see God’s faithfulness through answered prayers, blessings, or moments of His presence?

Prayer Prompt:
Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness in my life. Help me to remember all You have done and to trust You with what lies ahead. As I step into this new year, strengthen my faith by reminding me that You are the same loving and faithful God, yesterday, today, and always. Amen.

Philippians 1:4

Praying for others connects us deeply with their needs and aligns our hearts with God’s love and compassion. It transforms our focus from ourselves to the well-being of others, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose in the body of Christ. The act of intercession brings us joy because it allows us to partner with God in His work, witnessing the impact of His grace and mercy in the lives of those we pray for. Moreover, it cultivates gratitude and a positive perspective, as we see God’s faithfulness and goodness in answering prayers. This joy is not just about the outcomes but also about the process, knowing that our prayers are a powerful expression of love and support. It deepens our relationships, both with the people we pray for and with God, as we experience the intimacy of lifting others up to Him. Praying for others becomes a source of encouragement, as we share in their burdens and joys, strengthening the bonds of Christian fellowship and witnessing the transformative power of prayer.

Luke 1:25

Year after year Elizabeth and her husband prayed for a child. And year after year their prayers went unanswered. Yet as the years passed and the waiting continued, never did Elizabeth gave up on God or on her life serving Him. Instead she continued walking in obedience and trusting in whatever plans He had for her life. And as He so loves to do, God rewarded Elizabeth’s faithfulness. At the age of around 60, she became pregnant with a son. Not just any son, but the promised messenger of God. The one who would proclaim the soon to be born Messiah and prepare the way of the Lord! (Isaiah 40:3-5, Malachi 3:1) Because of her great faith and obedience God not only blessed Elizabeth with a child, through her, He fulfilled a promise made to Israel hundreds of years before her birth. Isn’t that just like God! He loves to bestow upon His children blessings far greater than we could ever imagine!

Psalm 66:20

I love how psalm 66 starts out with songs of praise to God for His glory, greatness, and works. Oh how easy it is to sing such wonderful songs when we feel surrounded by God’s glory. Those times we experience a spiritual, physical, and emotional closeness with Him. Usually it’s due to a received blessing, answered prayer, or a need fulfilled. We feel as if we’re walking on a cloud. Our hearts are filled with the joy, comfort, and warmth of fellowshipping with our Lord. And in our thankfulness we swear to never again forsake God, vowing to faithfully follow His will. Then life goes on, and it’s business as usual. And slowly our focus wanders away from the Lord. But the joyful news is this. No matter how much we forget or reject God, He never does the same in kind. Never will our Heavenly Father withhold His precious love, time, or attention. Nor ever turn a deaf ear to our prayers.

Habakkuk 3:19

It’s easy to have a deep and obedient faith when God answers our prayers exactly the way we want. But what about when He doesn’t? The prophet Habakkuk cried out to God to deal with the wickedness of Judah. But when God’s answer was the nation’s destruction, Habakkuk couldn’t understand the Lord’s reasoning. Have you ever felt like that? Unable to understand why God’s answer to your prayer would involve suffering? In Isaiah 55:8-9 we are told that the thoughts and ways of God are higher than our human brains can comprehend. So even if we don’t understand His methods, we can trust that God uses all things for our good. (Rom. 8:28) That’s what faith is all about! Trusting that even though this life is filled with trials and suffering, and we don’t have all the answers, we can still praise God. For He is our strength and our joy. And in His perfect love will never let us falter, carrying our feet to high places of safety!

Acts 12:5

When it comes to being a powerful prayer warrior, there is none greater than a small servant girl named Rhoda. Her faith in God was so strong, all she needed was to hear the voice of Peter to know her petition was answered. After Peter had been captured and jailed, believers gathered at the house of Mary, the mother of Mark. While praying for Peter’s release, there came a knock at the gate. Rhoda went to answer it, and after recognizing Peter’s voice, she joyfully ran to the people to share the good news. But they thought her mistaken. Yet Rhoda never doubted for a moment. For she had complete faith that what we ask from God, He has the power and ability to do. (1 John 5:14) We should all be like Rhoda. Exited, and full of faith. Praying expectantly to our Heavenly Father, and being filled with joy when those prayers are answered. There is great power in prayer. For when we are bound by chains and all gates are shut, the gate to God through prayer is always open. And through Him, all things are possible.

Psalm 66:19

Don’t you hate it when you’re trying to reach someone and your call goes straight to voicemail? That never happens with God. Through the privilege of prayer, we have a direct line of communication with God. And He’s always there, ready and eager to answer the call. Some Christians mistakenly believe that God only cares about the big stuff. But the truth is, He cares about every area of our lives both big and small. Prayer is a gift our heavenly Father gives to us so that we can come to Him with everything. Be it a petition, guidance, thankfulness, or to unburden our heart, God wants to be our first destination. For when we talk to Him, God promises to both listen and respond. And although we may not like the answer, we can give thanks that no prayer will go unanswered.
