Christmas

December 24th – Isaiah 7:14

Isaiah 7:14

The precious prophecy in Isaiah, given centuries before the nativity scene at Bethlehem, is a beacon of hope and a testament to God’s great love shown through His plan for redemption. For in it we hear of God’s promise of Emmanuel, God with us. As Christmas draws near, the profound truth of the Incarnation beckons us into a space of awe and wonder. The Almighty, cloaked in the vulnerability of human flesh, descends into the ordinary, making the extraordinary accessible. This divine mystery challenges the limits of our comprehension and invites us to contemplate the staggering reality that the Creator of the universe willingly entered into the fragility of our existence. In the hallowed stillness of the Bethlehem manger, the echoes of Isaiah 7:14 resound. A promise fulfilled, a love made tangible, and an invitation to marvel at the miracle of God choosing to dwell among us. As we embrace the wonder of “God with us,” may our hearts be stirred with reverence, gratitude, and overflow with love.

December 20th – Isaiah 40:31

Isaiah 40:31

In the hushed quiet of the Bethlehem night, the shepherds stood in the darkness, their watchful eyes scanning the starlit sky. Suddenly that darkness was shattered by the light of the appearance of God’s angels. A great host, announcing the arrival of the hope of the world with the birth of Jesus. A hope that filled the shepherds with great joy, and one they spread to all they met. For the promised Messiah, sent by God, proved that hope placed in the faithfulness of the Lord will always be rewarded. What a beautiful portrait of resilience and endurance. One that encourages us to place our hope not in the world, but in God. In the quiet moments and twinkling stars of the season, we can draw strength from God’s promises. And we can find comfort in the belief that even in the darkest nights of our lives, the dawn of hope is on the horizon. In the bustling holiday rush, finding patience can be as challenging as a child waiting for Santa. Yet in the midst of the chaos, it becomes the most precious gift we can give ourselves and others. December 18th – Proverbs 11:25

Proverbs 11:25

I love the picture of generosity being painted as refreshment for the soul. In the simple act of giving, we not only quench the thirst of those we give to, but find ourselves replenished in the process.  A replenishment found especially in the festive air of Christmastime. When the joy of giving becomes a gift itself. As we exchange presents and extend acts of kindness, we share in a generosity that echoes the very heart of Christmas. For the joy of giving is an act of love and selflessness, refreshing both the giver and the receiver. In every present wrapped with care, every warm gesture shared, we embody the truth of the holiday. The wonderful joy of lovingly giving to others. For the holiday itself is about love. The great love God showed us by giving His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to the world. And out of hearts overflowing with gratitude, we should extend that same love to others. Because when we choose to give with open, and loving hearts, we both give and receive the joy that makes this season truly magical.

December 17th – Matthew 6:14-15

Matthew 6:14-15

At Christmas, one of the most precious gifts we can give is not found under the tree but within our hearts. And it’s the gift of forgiveness. In forgiving, we echo the profound love of the Christmas story. Making the holiday truly shine with the light of peace and understanding. So in the spirit of the season, may forgiveness be the gift we exchange freely. Just as we anticipate the warmth of family gatherings and the glow of festive lights, may our hearts also be aglow with the lightness of forgiveness. Christmas invites us to unwrap the burdens of resentment and bitterness, extending the grace we ourselves have received. For in forgiving, we emulate the essence of Christmas. Which is the divine forgiveness bestowed upon humanity through the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. As we exchange presents under the tree, let us, in equal measure, exchange forgiveness, allowing the transformative power of grace to weave a tapestry of love and reconciliation, making this Christmas truly merry and bright.

December 15th – Psalm 136:1

Psalm 136:1

I remember as a child the joy of Christmas Caroling. People would visit each house, singing the traditional holiday songs. And the most poignant were the melodies about gratitude. Because Christmas isn’t just about presents; it’s about His presence. And our greatest reason to be grateful. Gratitude should be the shining star on top of our holiday tree, illuminating the joy that comes from recognizing the precious gift of Christ. That’s why Psalm 136:1 is an invitation to embrace Jesus as the source of gratitude and thanksgiving. In the heartbeat of this verse lies a profound understanding of Christ’s enduring goodness and boundless love. It beckons us to center our gratitude on Him, recognizing that His love is an unwavering foundation for our thanksgiving. Christ’s goodness becomes the endless spring from which gratitude flows. And in every expression of gratitude, may our hearts give thanks not only for the blessings we receive, but for the enduring goodness of our Lord. Whose steadfast love is the cornerstone of our gratitude.
